While this may be good for Champions Online, I hope people won't support Cryptic. This will be their business plan for all games in the future.
1. Take an established IP, rush the game out and hype it up for initial sales.
- Push lifetime sales by giving "exclusive" in-game stuff
- Push collector's edition by giving "exclusive" in-game stuff
2. After the initial rush (less than 6 months) and players leave for no (little) content, put all the formerly exclusive items into the C-store, remove features from game and put into C-store. Squeeze until revenues start to dip again.
3. When players are leaving way faster than players entering, make the game f2p, focus exclusively on the C-store. Squeeze until game dies.
They have probably made most of it back after number 1, so everything else is pretty much gravy.
Champions itself may have come naturally to this cycle, but I think in the future they will plan it out like this, because it is seems to be their preferred method of profit making. Look at STO.
From everything I've seen, this is their way of operating as a company, regardless of how good some individual employees may be.
I just... this is just another thing to throw on the pile of reasons why, when the Chinese invade the US, they need to start with sending in an air strike right on top of Cryptic's office during regular working hours.
Even a f2p mmo has to deliver some degree of fun, or involvement, or immersion or variety..... For all it's customization imo CO is still failing on every important level. LOTR and DDO went Ff2p after a solid run of development, CO is still a heavily undernourished spring chicken which brings nothing new or distinctive to the tired mmo table, despite the spin it is difficult to imagine how this can be a positive move for the game.
i hate the F2P stores and all the bullshit they represent, ruins so much, and people wind up spending way more than the sub ever was IMHO. But people just dont get it..... do they. Find a sub base that you like and stick to it..... 2nd game screwing lifers. I can see a futeure where i just stop playing MMO's, sad future but thats the way it goes.

Hahaha, when you stop reading him you start liking him, he is cute mascot. Just click him, skip and smile.
Next step to Cyberpunk future, the impoverished proletariat will be pacified in free virtual worlds. I like this one news.
Not a bad move. While no killer game, the 1 year I played CO it was quite fun. The char generator was the best ever.

So many games going f2p makes me sad.
