Well I think that was the point trying to keep people playing and staying away from the competition.

I know, but when I said on these forums that CO would go free to play when DCUO starts to hit the scene I basically got a lot of "nuh uh, SOE sucks and CO is fine and won't be going free to play ever" lol. Was just my little I told you so post.

I praise you for you foresight.  Can you tell me the lottery numbers for tonight?

Actually yes, They will be ones that you don't pick. If I'm right it means I'm psychic, if I'm wrong.... well who cares you'd be a millionaire!

But to be honest it didn't take a great deal of foresight. It's like walking outside and seeing the storm clouds, feeling the moisture in the air with all the lightning and thunder going on and saying "Hey it looks like rain".

I subscribed to this game when it first came out for 2 months. I took a long break and then subscribed for 3 more when I heard it had improved. It never kept me wanting to play however, and to be honest it was boring so I stopped. It's fun to kill some time, but not enough to pay subscription. I'm looking forward to seeing it go free to play. I'll definately start playing it again just to kill time now and then.

Yeah, this is definitely not one I'll really play but going free to play will insure I pop in every so often to tool around with the Char creator. That thing is killer lol. To bad it's not a fighting game. You and your buddies or whoever create chars, give them some kewl ass power sets and then duke it out MK style lol.

That would make it epic to be honest oO, the char creator with a MK style fighting game.... you could make Superman vs. Batman battles, Megaman vs. Super Mario, Marvin the Martian vs. The Incredible Hulk, Zelda vs. Goku lol.

Damn, now I got myself all hyped up for a game that doesn't exist.

    Why couldn't they have just made a MK style fighting game with this kind of char creator ; ;

The f2p options look pretty limiting, but I guess that could change.  And the poor Lifers, they get nothing in return.  At least LotRO gives them TP's.

And whys that? they get the exact same thing they payed for, nothing changes for them just like in Lotro.

Lifers in LOTRO get free TP every month. They also don't have to pay for quests/content included in the original game and any paid expansions, whereas F2Pers have to pay for content.

I think everyone who knows Cryptic has seen this coming for a while. CO and STO are already filled with micro-transactions. STO will go next depending on how CO does after this. As for the game ending, no, but no one can rightly call this a "success". When games go F2P they're admitting defeat and becoming second-class MMOs. Still, if you don't mind a second-class game, more power to you.

I used to play LotRO, I even have a Lifetime membership, but I doubt I'll ever go back.

Good to see Cryptic has finally seen what they should've always been about. Make a poor F2P-quality game in less than 2 years (and brag about it) and have a cash shop.

I'm guessing STO faces same treatment by 6/2011.

Can I have your account pls? I just started playing this game and I could really use a premium membership.

IMO it is above these games relying on the word "free" to get players, B2P relies on box sales, not on cash shop sales (with all the traps that come from your revenue depending on players spending money on the cash shop you need to make it necessary at least for players looking to be above the average level of competition/gameplay/dedication).

Anyway, this seems to be the only way to get underperforming MMOs to stand any chance. This isn't going to be always like this though, as even that market will grow saturated, MMOs are still long term games, unless these are going to be turned into short fun experience bursts cash shop lures.

I find it ironic that CO was turned F2P while CoX remains. It's like Cryptic failed at their basic goal - making a new MMO to be at least better than their first one.

It's called a "one hit wonder".

I figured this was going to happen.   Especially since Turbine claims to have had a 300% increase in thier player base since going F2P.

Like many others, I always thought CO should have been F2P from the start.   Its a good little game but doesnt have the content or retention power for a game that requires a premium monthly subscription.
