Hello mmorpg users, first and foremost I'd like to apoligize for my English. I have seemed to run into mostly native Americans in here, but I'm just a European fagget :-)
I have through many years played many mmorpgs, and at this point of my life. I have absolutely nothing to do.
Even though I party 3 times a week etc, I still have time to play. So I'm just bored.
I have seen many players that has played DAOC on computercafés etc, but never really tried it myself.
I think my options of new games are Daoc/EQ 2/Vanguard.
I thought it might be a good idea, to list my "accomplishments" pros/cons of my former games etc, so maybe you could get an opinion about my post and then give a better answer.
World of Warcraft. Been in top worldwide guild, been gladiator (rank 1 at my battlegroup, consisting of about 30 servers)
Pros: social, great combat system, always possible to improve equipment-wise(atleast pve), great and active developers, good community.
Cons: Way too easy, imbalanced and cartoonish looking
(cartoonish looking is awful after 6 years of playing it)
Everquest, been in top serverguild, one of the best rogues.
Pros: Huge Guild versus Guild fights, hours of corpsecamping, always possible to improve equipment-wise, mature players (18+ approximately) harder to master(opposite WoW), many races/classes, it also felt more like a world, opposite World of Warcraft. For me it was all about getting summoned to an instance, kill the bosses. Signing up for Arena queue for hours, after that do a bit Auction House runs to earn money, and thats it.
Cons: World of Warcraft came out and killed it by half. Everquest 2 came out and killed it by a quarter. Hehe
Eve Online, never really accomplished anything
Pros: Social, mature players, harder to master. But the world itself wasnt much appealing to me.
Cons: The "space" world doesnt appeal me much, I really missed the Everquest world.
Star Wars Galaxies, levelcapped bounty hunter
Pros: Own houses, guildhalls. Nice gfx, LOVE THE STARWARS HISTORY!
Cons: shit combat system, not so many good players and most of them were children etc.

I tried to return and was disappointed. It lives better in my memories
I've gone back to all my old school favorites at one time or another. And I agree with Luthor_X, they live on better in memories.
sad panda is sad(thats me)
Could you be more exact? What disappointed you? What did you miss from your 'original' times of playing, that disappointed you now?
With DAoC specifically, the gameplay felt sloppy. Movement, using skills, etc. felt strange and dated.
Also, the graphics needed some work. I always remembered it looking better than it does.
It was really populated when I played it way back. It really made the RvRvR work well. After I came back, it felt stale and uncompetitive or something.
I recently installed a trial to see what the fuss is all about. The UI is an absolute mess. People who designed this interface should not be allowed to touch a PC again.
Then I noticed the game has no real minimap, and immediately uninstalled it.
ya welcome how mmos used to be lol. no mini map it was better liek that. thou did you press M just saying

Which FF Character Are You?
The great communities that those games largely thrived on are almost completely absent now. The new generation is obsessed with action and ease of access. The games today pretty much play themselves. And the old school games are quick to adapt to this new market leaving behind everything that the genre was built upon, in my opinion.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
Just recently went back in to DAoC, The trip didn't last long. I had a lot of good times in that game t hose times are gone. In retrospect I think a large part of what was fun about DAoC was the community and that is something that definaltely is not there anymore. I miss the 80 plus people raids those were a blast.
Agree with Palebane. The community was an integral part of what made the old school games work. Without making any judgements, that era is simply gone.
In my opinion, as soon as "downtime" became a four letter word the possibility of the types of the vivrant communities we used to know vanished. Without it, there's no reason for the group to chat while the magic users get their mana back. The conversations that went on as groups spent considerable amounts of time getting from point A to point B never get off the ground and getting to know someone while sharing a camping spot (or not sharing it lol) just ain't gonna happen. Sadly, without the social interactions that enable the building of relationships we are never going to see that type of community again.
SoW and Invis please!
I don't know if you'll be coming back to this thread, but you really should try all three games. I'll break them down in very simple terms for you though.
Daoc - play if you want PVP greatness. The PVP in this game is still top notch. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. PVE in Daoc sucks though so don't play for PVE. I also think the graphics are great, and I don't in any way think the gameplay is sloppy. The controls always felt smooth and fluid to me.
Vanguard - play if you want PVE greatness and if you don't mind a low population.
EQ2 - play if you want PVE greatness that is not quite as great as Vanguard, but EQ2's benefit over Vanguard is that EQ2 has a very strong population.
I'm a long term player who has returned The game is essentially unchanged from when I left some 2 years ago...bugs..cross realming...botts and all.I had hoped it would be a bit improved/revitalized.I don't think it is.The game is quickly getting old...with the cross realming being the most irksom.I give myself 30-60 days tops and that's because my wife also plays.I sure hope RIFT is all it appears to be.
Well said....and too true.
