I was just sitting here and thinking why Diablo 3 is taking so long to ship and I got to thinking. What if the folks at Bilzzard are trying to figure out a way to implement an item shop just to squeeze more money out of it? You know and maybe they are testing and balancing the tiems with their cost. If they did that, would you still play it? Valve is doing something similar with TF2. I think those are mostly cosmetic items, but it's still generating extra income for Valve. Again, this is just me thinking with my tin foil cap on. Food for thought?

I doubt they would do that to a game like Diablo 3. Item shops have been getting a lot of negativity--not just on these forums, but in the MMO community as a whole. They would piss off a lot of long-time Diablo fans and likely lose a large chunk of sales they would make if they hadn't introduced it.
How would an item shop work in D3? I mean the whole game is based on drops and killing stuff. The only possible thing I could see them doing is selling DLC.
The item shops might be getting a lot of negativity, but the numbers don't lie. As long as people are shelling out the cash for this stuff it's here to stay unfortunately.
As to D3 having an item shop, I honestly wouldn't be surprised. Blizzard already added one in WoW and it really didn't need one. They have turned into a greedy company like everyone else. I don't buy the "we will release it when its finished" crap anymore. More like we will release it when the item shop is finished.
I feel the same way about DLC for consoles. Just companies being to greedy and trying to milk as much money out of their games as possible. We are the ones to blame though I guess, the players brought this upon themselves because we are stilling buying this garbage.
Yeh I could see them putting in convenience items to0, like in Lotro/DDO. Like self rez/health potions. Probably something to summon or rez hirelings if D3 is going to have those. Not to mention pets and various portals. It really doesn't make sense for an item game, but it makes sense if you take a look at current trends.

I don't like to think about things like that. When it comes it comes. If it's okay I'll play it. If I can't I'll just cry. Lol.
If they add an actual itemshop in D3, with a browser and all that stuff, I won't buy D3 (vote with your money). If they add one after release... Well... For shame.
But no, they won't do that. This is Diablo we're talking about. Will they have some kind of extra feature that you could pay for? MAYBE. But just maybe. NOT an itemshop.
All it takes is one bad day.
I think the sole reason why they are taking forever is because they aren't as talented as they were 10 years ago. When people like Jeff Strain, James Phinney, Pat Wyatt and Eric Flannum left Blizzard the quality has completely dropped.
My thoughts are along the same line. Starcraft 2 took a similarly long time to put out from initial announcement. Although it is a very fun RTS game, I was taken back by the overall lack of progress considering the original Starcraft is more than 12 years old. The game still relies on essentially bi-level terrain (3d terrain was starting to become common shortly after Starcraft I was released) and unit changes are not substantial in general. Largely, the game just received a graphics update. Rather surprising considering development on Starcraft 2 started in 2003 (yes, I know there was a year delay in 2005)...I would have expected more with a 6 year development effort.
They take time to release a game that is not like the other eleventy hundred releases which are buggy and need loads of patches. I bought and played Starcraft 2 with nary a hitch. That, is quality mates.
Typical to attack Blizzard for delivering the most polished MMO and 3 expansions that blew away any competition over the last 6 years if polishment is concerned.
That Jeff Strain left Blizzard more than 10 years ago, more then 2 years before the launch of Warcraft 3 and more than 5 years before the launch of the most succesful game ever.
Ridiculous statements from the guys above. Morhaime said multiple times that the unexpected growth of WOW was the reason they had to put almost all their earlier resources into this game. And for a good reason: no other game makes $100 M a month ...
I heard companies don't like to make money and they make games as a service to their fans, is it true? Oh and Blizzard puts a gun to people's heads and force them to buy item shop goodies or they come to your house and kill your families.
Thank God for Blizzard and WoW for making MMOs the way they're suppose to be, instead of playing retard filled bad games like FF14.
Thread necro for the lulz because this actually happened
Sounds like you talking about WOW to me. Nothing blizzard does these days suprises me. I will be more suprised if they didnt have some money grubbing scheme built into D3 for causals to spend cash on.
i hope they dont start doing DLCs instead of a full expansion
Everquest 2 already does that with "Adventure packs" :P
Here I thought this was a newly initiated thread. Thanks for the laugh and that the OP's worries from almost 1 year ago came true.
WOW
