SWG: are you breaking the law?

ScorpesScorpes Member Posts: 830

Garva SWG Amin

If you start a rant, flame, troll, anything inappropriate on this forum today you will be banned for 2 weeks, if you already have a past history you will be banned, and if your post is disruptive you will also be banned ingame. Do Not Do It

This is not an account discussion forum and other peoples accounts and the status of said accounts are between them and SOE, nothing you say or do will change that because it's the law. So in light of that discussions about it are not welcome even if there is no flaming in them. If you wish to post about it find a different forum.

SOE Value's its customers and will remove anyone disrupting the fair gameplay of any of our games. It does not matter how long it takes to catch you, if you cheat or otherwise disrupt the game at any time we are fully within our rights to remove you from our service. This is not a threat, this is a pledge to our customers to provide a positive gaming environment for all our players.

Im not a lawyer or anything, so im curious if anyone knows if what Garva from SWG is true, are we indeed breaking the law if we discuss our accounts and/or even if theirs no flaming in them?
Does that mean people who encourage other people to sign up and extend their accounts are also breaking the law?
And what do they mean by breaking the law? does anyone know? or is it just to intimidate people which is what Im inclined to believe.

For those who dont know the new Combat Update is being installed today and 70% of the people who are active members of the community have said its terrible and they're is a huge uproar. So to put things in context, thats what the post by Garva was about. To squelch all dissent, which is fair its their forums afterall, just the whole threatening about the law, think its a bit overboard, unless it actually is against some law which im asking about.

I don't think "Law" is the right word. It's against their policy. Last I checked SOE didn't write federal laws or anything of the sort. That word is just tossed around a bit too much. Like people who think it's "illegal" to not drive with your hands at 10 and 2 on the wheel. That's just DMV policy.

At the very most they could be hit with BoC ( breach on contract ) by any players whose information they discussed. To say it's against the "law" is just silly. Next thing you know SOE will be trying to hand out warrants :P

"What is it I have against Microsoft, you ask? Well, you know how you feel when you wait for an MMO to come out and when it does you feel like you've paid to play it's beta test for another 6-9 months before anything even thinks of working the way it should? Being a network engineer you feel that way about anything Microsoft puts out."

....If someone really thinks for a second that it would be against the law they need to spend more time in school. Its obvious its a "our way or the highway"-type of moderating. Im not american & still get what they are trying to say.

When you sign up for an account there are several "chapters" where you agree to follow the forum rules & whatever.

Is it unethical of SOE to resort to this kind of tactics? yes.
Will you get in trouble legally if breaking the forum rules? no (threatning to sue your fan-base isnt good, just look at Mournings pr-guy)

Na there fourms there boards they can do what they want, half the messages with any hint of negativity about Cu has "message deleted or not found"

there busy baten down the hatches before the infulx comes....... Typical i imgine if when, re start goes live next few days  and the bumps that there is a good chance once again Fourms will be closed to public and just opened to current subscribers, and the deleting threads of problems continue ..................

yep sony boards all is normal everything is just fine, and let's not forget how happy the players are about the upcoming changes image!!!!!!

Yeah well I was 99.9% sure it wasnt against the law, bue of course maybe some law geek knows some kind of loophole. but anyhow, yeah, typicall SOE or as one guy stated on the forums.

Seems like the only time the "powers that be" ever get involved with the community it is to either fix what isn't broken, break what needs to be fixed, ban players, or delete posts.

OMG, I was one of the first players to be  prema gamebanned for forum misuse , Garva, Bruce, and the rest of them at the SWG forums and other SOE forums is the ONLY MMPOG company with this stupid rule that pisses off players as well as lowers profits. image

I cant belive they had said that. As stated above threatning to sue your players is going to get you nowere they are in the buisness to make money had i hear that i wouldve cancelled my accnt (because im spitefull and in my mind 12 dollors in my pocket is my comeback) that i dunno....seems a bit childish i mean what are you supposed to say on the forums? has it gotten to were we dont have the freedom to post anymore? i dont like the idea of some company saying theyd sue over a forum post that is the ultimite dweebery right there.

Hey, umm... I'm sorry, but please re-read the last paragraph.

I'm a paying customer and I don't want to have to listen to a bunch of whiney adolescents that can't understand why their opinion isn't being heard when they're screaming it at the top of their lungs. 'Positive gaming environment' is the key. There is no other way to moderate but 'my way of the highway' - you were raised respectfully, you know how to act in public, and just because the internet is anonymous doesn't mean you can forget that. Stop playing the blame game and hold yourself accountable.

Regardless of my feelings towards the CU, I know how to present them in a manner that won't get me banned. If you don't know this - which, I suspect you do, because you'd get your ass kicked for acting this way in RL - you'd better learn quickly because the consequences of not learning have been laid out for you by Garva.

Paying????  whiney adolescent????  Harelin  I am your father - Not really but I am a close to middle age adult who enjoyed the roleplaying side of SWG . When posts on forums were it was focused on me ( in a roleplaying vein mind you) I continued . Now even SOE would admit that extending the game to other means like Forums and such was under heavy consideration with Sovereign (  but it did not happen) Now that the game is ( now VERY losely) based on one of the most popular movie franchises of all time you have to expect folks to enjoy it even when the servers are being rebooted ( an every day event for a LONG LONG TIME!) I am Jestor Rodo - banned for alleged forum misuse 1/9/05. I am going to be honest with you . I get a better Star Wars feeling being a Rebel Rolepleyer fighting the Evil Empire of SOE then I ever did in SOEs so -called Star Wars game.

I could care less how old you are. If you get a thrill out of feeling like a "rebel" by breaking forum rules, I direct you to my above post. If you're going to "rebel," at least be tasteful.

SOE is a shameful company when it comes to SWG.  I cannot speak for the their other games as I have no experience with them.

But for them have the audacity to ban or even oppress the opinions of their player is shameful.  Why do they want to hide what their players think of the game?  So they can get noobs to pay 50 bucks for swg then 30 bucks for JTL and even more for ROTW just to find out how awful the game is?  Guess what the store you buy the games from WILL NOT give your money back if you try to return the game.  It doesn't matter what you tell them.  So SOE wants to hide the truth to make some cash and leave some unsuspecting NOOB with anwhere from 1 - 3 titles they paid cash for that they don't want to play because they're no good and were unable to see the truth of the game when they went to the game's site and saw nothing but happy days crap info.  Shame on every last one of them at SOE.

By breaking Forum rules? Muhahahaha - I did now know that I was breaking the forum rule that one would be premagame banned for alleged forum misuse , it was clandestinely emplaced and enforced, My jackboot friend.

No other MMOPG company ( in thier right minds)  has this stupid rule that prevents profit and alianates players. A prema forum ban would have allowed yours truly to continue on in the game with SOE making my subscription fees but would prevent me from writing posts on SOEs game forum.    As for your post above well, all I can say is that is your humble opinion and I would fight for your right to have it and voice it but trust me that does not mean I support it. I hope you can respect that .
