Well I was watching a video on youtube of the Shatterer from Guild Wars 2 in great quality. I started reading a few comments, and what do you know, I found this.
"uhh total ripoff of wow look at those worgens ripoffs and deathwing ripoffs
graphics arent as good as wow either imo and gameplay looks shallow?".
*sigh*, I don't know about anyone else, but it's really sad that people are actually serious when they say that. Now I know that there are people like that, and I'm not saying I'm surprised. But the ignorance and stupidity of some people is just really sad.
"worgen ripoffs", really? Even though the Charr are from the 5-year-old GW and the WoW expansion hasn't even been released yet? wow

Before the internet it was pretty limited how many idiots you would run into on a daily basis. With the internet now you run into millions.
Isn't it great?
Just be glad you're not "that guy"
This is soo true.
In real life in real life idiots often learn to keep their mouth shut and actually learn something, internet is like a megaphone that no one can take away from you.
Into the breach meatbags
Because EverQuest was a WoW-clone, too.
And who ever judges a game's graphics on the basis of YouTube videos that greatly degrade graphics quality? Which is one of your points.
Well... the key people that founded Arena.net ARE former Blizzard employees. And you don't think they took absolutely no ideas from that experience even after all those years WoW was in development? That's very naive of you. Worgen and dragons were key parts of Blizzard's lore while these guys were there. So you draw your own conclusions.
And no I don't think it was a intentional ripoff. But I do think they like dragons and werewolves just as much as the next guy. I know I love'em. And I don't thing any less of them when they add thier own twist to these two types of beings.
But leave it to the mmorpg.com forum jockies to track chet post from another site to this one......like we aren't up to our necks in chet post already.
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
The guy who left that particular comment was found out to be "The Red Shirt Guy"
But.... you do know Dragons and Werewolves were thought up long before WoW right oO.... and in many many many games long before WoW was even a twinkle in Blizzards eye.
Why do some people seem to have this belief that everything began with WoW lol?
Altered Beast - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwvkRys93Iw
Hell even Baulders Gate 2 was sporting a Werewolf lol.
No need to go into detail about how long dragons have been in games oO.
It's quite obvious from what he posted that he understands there were werewolves before WoW. He even talks specifically about liking their twist on them.
I think you should be asking the question - Why do some people not understand what they are reading? Or... why are people replying to people without reading everything they say?
Wouldn't this thread fit better in the WoW forums?
@Avery, i really like the red shirt guy, all that knowledge is astonishing....
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
Now where in the world did I state that I believe Blizzard dreamt up dragons and werewolves? I think you're in the same league as the youtube commenter. You're both clueless and driven by your emotions to "be offended". Look I love the way GW2 is presenting Charr and Dragons. I love the way WoW is introducing them too. They are devs that sprouted from the same freakin tree man, Blizzard.
Put it this way: You and I have a studio together and we make a mmo with werewolves and dragons. Except the game we are working on together doesn't have werewolves as a playable race yet and dragons are on the back burner. Then you say you're leaving to start your own studio and will make a mmo were werewolves ARE playable and dragons are a central villain. I tell you cool, go for it bro. It's obvious to both of us that we didn't invent freakin werewolves and dragons, right? Well at least I hope it's obvious.
But somewhere out there it will be a fool to say you ripped the idea from me and another to say I didn't invent it.....sound familiar? Two sides of the same freakin coin you two are (youtube guy and you).
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
Your problems started when you decided to read a comment on youtube. Don't do that.
This.
Youtube comment sections is probably the biggest troll community on the entire net so...congratulations on being successfully trolled I guess.
I could not agree more.
Whatever you like, love, believe in, have hopes for or enjoy ---you can find a moron on youtube hitting the dislike button, making Bieber comments and spouting garbage.
Its simple, don't read the comments and your life will be more peaceful. Besides that, choose your battles. It is really not worth your time or energy.
Poe's law is in effect.
Seriously, Charr aren't supposed to be wolves at all, they're obviously 8 ft tall bipedal pyromaniac kittens.
Yes, they are cow-tigers without the stripes and walk on two feet. No Canis Lupus involved.
Werewolves are from Greek mythology. So are minotaurs. Did Blizzard "copy" them?
Golems are from jewish mythology. Imagine that.

This really seems stupid to be posting about but your comment that "Look I love the way GW2 is presenting Charr and Dragons. I love the way WoW is introducing them too." Makes people think you feel that Worgen = Charr or that Charr = Werewolves which seems quite far fetched.
Because we all know Charr = Kilrathi

Ok, so my question to you is.... .
Why do you not understand what you are reading? Or... why you replying to people without reading everything?
lol.
When you try and state or imply that someone ripped something off from another company you are saying they stole there idea. If it wasn't originally their idea, then there's no way you could steal it from them.
Now if the poster I replied to knew Werewolves and Dragons existed in games long before WoW he wouldn't have tried to say Anet stole the Dragon and Werewolf idea from WoW. Because that would be absurd lol considering how long they've been around lol.
It's like saying Rebok stole the idea of shoes from Nike....
Uhhh..I don't think this deserves a thread tbh..anyone can believe whatever he likes to...and besides that the shatterer does look like deathwing a bit... which both look like the legendary godzilla.
Totally off topic, but that video made my day.

@ OP, people are already ripping his comments on YouTube already, so case closed.
Since it made your day I had to try it too.
And it was great!
The real issue here is 3-d character model rip offs. stick with 2-d you copierers

Dragons are a universally accepted fantasy monster. Worgen are a generic beast man race. To say that ANet developed their game with dragons and Charr due to the WoW influence, ignores a few thousand years of history, myth and legend that is commonly available to anyone who wants to flex their creative muscles. Besides, Charr are related to cats not wolves. Rip off of http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083722/ ?
I'm sure there are a number of influences from WoW on GW. Anyone with a creative bone in their body will pick up ideas and concepts from their past experience, which will later become part of their own design repertoire. But singling out dragons and worgen as direct influences is a really pushing it because they are both such generic fantasy staples. If anything, I'd say GW borrows a lot more from the Glorantha fantasy setting than WoW. Dragons the size of mountain chains is *not* something I think can be said to be a WoW influence.
** Edited for clarity.
thats so sad! That wow player is so desperate to make the wow sound the best game ever, and that any mmo is just a copy. very sad! I tell you that guy has been playing wow for 6 years and nothing else, and never came out of its room...
