The worse by far is anarchy online.  If a game is free then the young ones mommy and daddys dont have to pay for it, which most won't.  Guildwars will be bad too since it has no mothly fee, it has also had a bunch of little kids come in and give it a 10 rating on everything, don't get me wrong its a good game but not everything is perfect.

Honestly at one point in time I would have said Matrix Online, but that was the beta community. When the game went live, the forums filled with posts that would make a third grade english teacher balk. But if you are looking for a nomination, I'd point to some of the lesser known MMOs, or those with smaller playerbases.

    EQ2 for mature community.

Anarchy Online Shadowlands without a doubt.

My opinion about the best mature is ofcourse AO, when i played it a year ago. EQ2 was the second i played and there was- about zero immaturity. other then WoW, that is the worst IMHO.
since yesterday i started playing GW. so i havent really gotten to know it good enough to say how it is

    GW - 11 Ranger/Elementalist
    - 7 Necromancer/Mesmer

From my own experience, which include EQ, Anarchy Online, EVE Online, SWG, Ryzom, EQ2 and WoW, I have to say that both EVE and Ryzom stands out from the rest with regards to a "mature" community.

In addition, regarding the ingame political and diplomatic landscape (if one enjoys such in a mmorpg environment), EVE Online is true far beoynd everything else. Since there, it does really matter: you can be successful by being "literate" and well-articulated.

Ryzom, on the other hand, is well-suited for everyone that takes great interest in role playing.

Though, obvioulsy, all these games have communities as large as there will be, by pure probability, every imaginable type of character represented.

    When in doubt, troll.

Out of the dozens of MMORPGs that I've played, RYL had the worst community (people are shouting everywhere..), and FFXI being the best. Its so nice to walk around the worlds of FFXI and have someone /wave or /smile to you. Even if no one ever uses proximity chat (/say) or global chat (/shout), the community is still the best! (Yes, there is a lot of shouting on event days in such cities as San D'oria).

LOL original poster...it sounds like you've experienced World of Warcraft, Lineage or any of the other MMORPGS l33t d00dz hang out at.

I know exactly how you feel, I played WoW and it would get so bad at times I just disabled the general chat. But anyway....to answer your question... the most mature community, in my experience, is Star Wars Galaxies followed closely by Everquest 2.

    good luck ::::28::

    My 2c:

I've played WoW, MxO, and I'm now on Guild Wars.  WoW has too many immature kids for my taste, but they know how to have fun.  MxO has many mature players, but they need to take the stick out and loosen up.  It's a game, not C-Span.  Those two communities are polar opposites.

Maturity has it's obvious benefits, but people take the maturity trip too far and bash anyone just trying to have fun.  Fun is why people are playing video games in the first place.

So far, Guild Wars seems to have the right balance: Mautre enough not to greif and be assholes, but loose enough to have naked dance parties while waiting for a PvP match to begin.  XD

Guild Wars is still an MMO.

You can turn off general chat and merely hunt/quest with friends.

You are biased, Kyt. ::::02:: In the last couple weeks alone, I've seen people returning to AC2, leaving AC2, or newbies asking about AC2 get flamed by the typical jerks. I even commented on it in a few threads.

My own experience has both Horizons and EQ2 as very mature communities. EQ2 is the better game though of the two (in my opinion). AC2 has some good folks but it has some really hostile people too.

I will agree about someone else's observation that roleplay servers are better. My experience in WOW is far better on a roleplay server than on the regular server where I originally started. The same was true on Starsider in SWG - better community than the regular servers.

The adventure is in the journey itself.

Well, I would personally venture a guess at GUildwars. Though you might want to wait around for a while, as it is brand new. BUt just from the beta group, which should be a good bit more than half of the general player group, The maturity level is pretty good.
