Blizzard has announced that it is now accepting digital preorders for the World of Warcraft expansion, Cataclysm. Purchasing the digital version of Cataclysm will authorize players to being exploring the game the minute servers go live at 12:01 a.m. on December 7, 2010.

Log into the World of Warcraft game client to start the download of Cataclysm data. The data will download while you play or have the Launcher open.

I remember when vanilla WoW was released, I went to walmart at 0400 to get my copy launch day (morning, lol).

This is a much better deal imo ;)

Would be great if they had a digital collectors edition too. the only things you really couldn't get digitally are the TCG cards and the mouspad perhaps they could reduce the price slightly as well from the boxed version. But really if they offered something like that I would be all over it.

This is definitely a nifty idea (not new) - but still a nifty idea all the same.  Were I honestly thinking about getting Cata though, I would still need to buy a new hard drive first.  As is, WoW is taking up over 20 GB of space - the sys reqs for Cata put it at 25 GB, so have to figure it will be more than that... perhaps one day.

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

gonna get it collecters edition box set, so much better having an actual item instead of a digital version. well for me anyway.

Ha only 20GB mine takes up 27GB with my add ons included, lol so when i get cataclysm installed i'll be somewhere around 32GB, so glad i have two 1TB hard drives.

CoX is 5 GB.  DDO Is around 4 GB.  LOTRO is 10 GB.  EVE Online 6 GB.

Those were the four games I had to uninstall when I reinstalled WoW last week.

Yep, compressed it is currently 21.6 GB... painful.

Hey, off hand do you know a means to move WoW from one drive to another?  Thinking about moving it to one of my slower storage drives and do not want to go through downloading the whole thing all over again...

Well its that I usually hunt for the collectors edition , but i can see it become a huge success , instead of sending your bro neighbour , husband , wife , girlfriend or boyfiriend .

To go out and buy it before it gets sold out and to find out it been sold out .

Or that your local place doesn´t stock enough of it , this digital preorder can help a lot .

I think collectors edition software is a HUGE waste of time and $$. Digital download copy is awesome cause U can rip it to a dvd if U wanna save it and play instantly. and on another note.... was that guy actually bragging about having 2 1 TB HD's?    doesnt everyone? I have 4 1.5 TB drives and 3 bays left.  pc parts are soo cheap now anayone can have mega storage.

I prefer digital delivery but not from Bliz with the problems they had when 4.01 launched I'd be a tad upset (nice way of saying extremely p!ssed) if they screwed me over on this as well. But that said my girlfriend and I already decided to forego the collector's edition, we only want the pet anyway, but I can't see anyone spending $80 and not getting the box. I still have the orig. collector's edition on my bookshelf :D

    Played in some form:
UO til tram, AC, EQ, AO, WW2O, PS, SB, CoH, AC2, Hor, LoTRO, DDO, AoC, Aion, CO, STO
    Playing: WoW (for gf), WAR
    Waiting For: SWTOR, FFXVI
Hoping For: DCUO, Secret World, Earthrise
    -S- (UO Sonoma)

Ive dragged and dropped my WOW files from one drive to another,  (from Drive C to D) and redid the shortcut icon on the desktop and it has run with no problems.
