Players characters just dropping dead!!!

HanoverZHanoverZ Member Posts: 1,239

It seems MO has taken "hardcore" to the next level, your character drops dead for no apparent reason.

http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/55058-who-else-dies-nothing-since-patch.html

Now this would be kinda funny IF people weren't loosing all their stuff.  Did they add "heart attack" to the undocumented patches?  Be careful...

    heartattack

Since yester day people are just falling dead off their horses. There are no combat entries other then: you died.

There of course havent been any npc or player visible which could have attacked - also health doesnt go down as if one would be hit - but goes from 100% to 0%.

i keep reading all these horrible things about this game and i'm shocked at what's happening.  is it really that hard to make a game or are these devs just stupid?

Because alot of these claims are drastically over exagerrated.  Honestly, i've returned and have been playing this game a lot for the past week, and besides for the occasional 5 minute server crash, and the city being briefly destroyed, I havnt run into many gamebreaking, or even fun breaking, bugs.  I've seen one floating person, and have had some lag at times, but besides for that, theres actually a decent amount of ppl ingame that are enjoying themselves.

Ya, its buggy and the indie nature of the game is apparent. But, there is an incredible depth to the crafting in this game, the empire building, even the gathering stands above most games. Even the combat is pretty fun when your characters becomes more complete(which takes an astounding couple of days to a  week.) I think if ppl actually gave this game a chance after the first couple of hours, they would be pleasantly surprised.

If you think these claims are exaggerated, then why do you feel it should still be in beta and call it a buggy mess???

The title of the thread states "players" not "characters"...

...thought there was some sort of audio/video glitch in the game that was causing players to die.

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

Oh no, did u just nail me? Not really. Quoting myself "Ya, its buggy and the indie nature of the game is apparent.""I havnt run into many gamebreaking, or even fun breaking, bugs"

No where did i say it wasn't a buggy mess, or it shouldn't be still in beta. Because it should..BUT, you ppl blow it way out of proportion. Final fantasy should have still been in beta when it was released, see where im going with this. I'm saying that it isn't as broken as you are blowing it up to me.

The game is very playable, and when u do run into a bug, there gm's can help you for the most part. That being said, its buggy, but its minor bugs, and it's still fun. The thread you quoted me from was asking which game is in better shape, in which i responded that darkfall was because it was more polished and populated, but mortal online has better game systems, and i resubbed mortal online literarly after i made that post and the game has improved alot, which prompted this post, but nice job on the nailing.

Doctors recommend Epic patches to cure common bugs such as Desync and Duping. Epic patches aren't for everyone though.

Minor side effects can include heart attack and large chunks of the world disappearing. In rare cases it can also cause you to lose all of your in game items.

Be sure to discuss Epic Patches with your Doctor to find out if they are right for you.

I don't know, this all seems like it was written by Shakespeare. It's just to perfect of a tragic comedy. You feel awful for the people suffering but, it's just to funny.

I have had a crafter since beta.  The crafting system (like I have said before) yes you can create millions of combinations but there is no reason to.  Only certian weapons are viable and only certian materials.  So you are literally making the same thing over and over.

There is no such thing as "Empire Building".  The territory system is very rudimentary and usually does not work.  there is no reason to destroy another keep.  And Keeps are not even worth hanging around.  Go into the Patriacrch forum (if you can) I can and all it is is guild leaders complaining keeps are useless.

The quote had nothing to do with DFO, it was from the MO "Progress" thread. Anyway back on topic...So you've only been playing again for a few days, yet claim people who have been playing since launch are "drastically over exagerrating" this and other issues???

The "heart attack" is a very real and game stopping bug/feature, among many others!

Why did you resub if you thought MO was a buggy mess/ needs to be in beta? I dont get it?

    default Locking my Wipe Thread

That thread was started with good intentions and there were some responses and you decided to lock it ? No flaming , no trolling, no problems and its locked ? No Pm telling me who locked it and why ? if I wanted to troll I would have posted it in the General Forum Section

I felt strongly a wipe would help this game, due to the fact barely anyone plays the game anymore. Giving you the perfect excuse to start out fresh and your not going to do it or respond to it. Are you worried about the 100 or so people who still play this game, or are you worried about the thousands who quit ?

Those of you who " Worked so hard " (selfish attitude) will have a nice time looking at your keeps for as long as this game can stay afloat because after that there will be no game left to play unless you choose up sides and kill one another like a school yard football game.

The political forums are dead. The general forums are dead. And the people still playing this game are worried about their "Hard Work" ?? What about the people who developed this game and their hard work ? All your doing is playing, grow the fuck up and see the writing on the wall and let these guys start fresh because I firmly believe if people posted in my thread that a fresh start would help that the devs might just consider it. But god for bid you should lose that keep and that toon you maxed out in 3 fucking days.

SV you have a good chance here to turn this around EPIC patches and little content dribbling in will not get Subscribers back. A big move with legitimate changes to make the game more fun and adding more content will.

    default House Payments/Damage

So, house chests are still bugged with cash in them disapearing instead of paying upkeep. Why the hell implementing back houses taking damage if unpayed before you fix the chests? For 3 days now we are dropping 100-200 silver daily into chests (yes, we lock them, no one takes silver out etc). Silver disapears, unpayed upkeep goes up 1 day, house takes damage.

Thanks for forcing us to mine couple hundred thousand rock a day to keep houses from collapsing due to bugs. Stuff like that really shouldn't be happening. If you have something not working due to bug, don't implement something which is influenced by the bug until it's fixed. Thank fuck our keep chest today finally decided to take the cash and pay the upkeep instead of taking 1 million damage daily.

I think all of the house upkeep should be reset; it's a bunch of bullshit that not only we don't get the taxes from the houses; but anything we put it in is gone. Keep bugged features out of the game until they are ready to deploy.

I contacted a GM in-game and was essentially responded to with "Tough Shit". So let me just go dupe some gold; so I pay for a bug with a bug; seems like the only way to have any even footing.

default Do not start advertising MO until it's newbie "friendly"

So, I've told my brother about MO. Asked to wait for my call which will be proley in a week or so to start playing (since he's casual gamer, and those don't like bugs and shit). He however decided to ninja start without waiting as I found out from him after he phoned me with words: WTF?

    So, here's his story:

    1. Fix the patcher! 3-4 days to download and instal the game?

    2. Started in GK. Dear devs, either remove GK from starter choises or at least make a note in huge red letters "DO NOT START HERE IF YOU'RE NEW!". I'm not even gonna explain why newbies shouldn't start in red towns.

    3. WTF darkness. Yes, you messed up big time with gamma in epic patch. Most people play with manualy forced gamma to 1.3 to be able to see shit. Not really newbie related, but I can see a lot of fresh subbers saying "fuck this" due to this bug.

    4. "So, you told me durring that dinner that newb should go mine or chop wood. I didn't find any trees in GK, so I went to mine. Now my pickaxe is broke and vendors don't want my rocks, what should I do?". Make already so that all the rocks can be vendored for small amounts of cash, otherwise you have newbs like my brother who hit the brick wall of I don't have cash to buy new newbsword/pickaxe. On top of rocks being sellable, make newbswords with like 10k durability BUT not possible to mine with.

    5. Give newbs like 2-3 starter NPCs who would hold their hand for a day or so. Like EVE.

Overall, if you don't make the game a bit more newbie friendly (and I don't mean make the game easy or whatever, EVE ain't newbie friendly either, but they manage to hold their hand a little bit to help them start the game) MO will never grow properly.

Even if it's niche game, it DOES require new players comming. ATM most new players come through "my friend told me about this game". What it gives is that usually that friend holds newbies hand a bit and explains shit. Now you spoke about starting some advertising. DO NOT start advertising until you have some kinda newbie program working. Advertising gives customers who most likely don't have experienced friends playing already to help them. If they drop into game at this stage, 90%+ of them will ragequit within first 2 days due to game having ABSOLUTELY no newbie support. Quite the opposite, it's trying to fuck the newbie up in every way possible. No proper explanaitions on char creation, possibility to start in red towns, depleatable newbie gear, vendors not buying like 50% of things that newbie can aquire and many other things.

What this advertising atm would mean is... You'd gain large sub amount for 1 month. And then a lot of them telling their friends "MO sucks guys, don't bother". In a way, starting advertising atm would have reverse effect in the long run since let's be honest, niche games depend quite heavily on how the gamers talk about the game.

As Henrik mentioned in the latest HoC we are currently going over the "newb"-aspect of the game. Expect changes.
