White Lion any good in PvP? and....

Well, just wondering if WLs were good in PvP and if they are dead without a pet next to them.  Also, what would make a good duo with one?  I would love to play this with my wife.  She likes ranged combat, heals/buffs and a pet...she hates melee and tanking.

Thanks

White Lions are burst melee dps.  dont expect to last long if you dont kill your opponent with the ap you aoriginally had.  But believe me if you are running around as a duo, You will have fun with the white lion.

As for your wife, there is no heal/buff + pet class in this game.  If she wants to heal/buff I would suggest an Archmage.  If she wants a pet the only options on order is White lion (which is melee) or an Engineer.  The engineer has a turret and a whole bunch of them which acts some what like a pet.

But if you are running around as a duo I would suggest she be an Archmage.  Most women end of playing an Archmage anyway since the female elf characters look femine (unlike the the female drawf toons).

I mained a WL to RR73 before I un-subbed. The class is solid, you can either slot the Loner tactic and have consistent damage, or run with the pet (full Guardian specced) and have the highest possible burst with the class. Running with the pet when Guardian is also the most defensive spec and best suited for small-scale fighting or solo ganking in the RvR lakes.

The class is VERY gear intensive though, keep that in mind. If you end up rolling one, get this add-on. It'll make your pet much more reliant, trust me. If you have anymore questions, just hit me up here or PM me.

Currenlty, WLs are extremely good.  They can burst targets down as fast as careers that are in low armor and are meant to kill quick.

If their target is not dead after their rotation is done (everything but sword/board tanks should be pretty much), they can pounce someone closer to their backlines, or charge away.  Fetch and pounce are great tools.

WPs are easily the best group healers order side.

Would a WL be able to kill a DoK?  It seems like they can just heal themselves nonstop.

Also, I am not sure what pounce does but I think fetch is where the lion throws his target to you?

Thanks for all the info.  I think an AM would be great for her cause she can heal me!!!

Concerning AM's I assume one of the three tress focuses on healing?  What do the trees do?  And for WL, I take it guardian is the tanking tree for the player and the lion is pure DPS?

Yes, a WL can kill a DoK, even well geared ones that spec DPS, although the WL needs equal or higher gear to compete as well as knowledge of when to use what abilities against them. I used to duel alot of players of all classes on my WL which gave me the experience and knowledge on how to beat them, which translates into scenarios and ORvR.

Pounce is a 65ft ranged attack that makes your character "pounce" onto the target dealing damage and helping close the gap against squishies or kiters. With the gear I have, it can crit upwards of 1.2k- 1.4k with an immediate auto-attack which can crit for higher than Pounce. And you're right about Fetch and what it does, although it's not super reliable.

AMs have a main healing tree (Isha), as well as a debuffing and damage tree but even in the other trees there are healing abilities of sorts.

It'll take some time to get to the renown rank to do this, but a 9/5/9 build with the WL is total ownage, it's not as bursty as Full Guardian/ Part Hunter because you lose out on Leonine Frenzy, but this way you get Primal Fury from Axeman instead and still keep your knockdown as well as the nasty armor debuff from Hunter.

Hmm, don't really know what primal fury does but I guess it is good.

I'm playing a 28 DOk and pretty much nobody solo can kill me if I'm paying attention.  Fighting WPs is pretty funny because we just pound on eachother pretty much indefinately maintaining full health until someone else shows up.

I play with healing traits though so that makes me last longer.  The other guy said a DPS DOK would be harder, and maybe they are at top levels, but the ability to get off consistant decent heals on myself keeps me up, not my gear.

As for White Lions, I hear they are pretty great right now, mainly because they can jump in, do burst damage, and then jump out.

@Holdenhamlet- Glad you're enjoying the DoK, it's a very solid class. Healing DoKs can be almost invincible with Dark Promise gear (which is easy to get) due to its detaunt proc on being hit, which stacks on top of your ability detaunt, making you take 75% less damage...pretty nasty. DPS DoKs are also great, although they are less effective in groups obviously, but you can keep yourself or your friendly target  at high health with alot of strength/crit/melee power gear since your melee heals are based off your offense. For the record, DPS DoKs > DPS WPs.

@Meleemadness- Primal Fury is the first ability you can spec for in the Axeman tree which increases your damage by 25% when hitting your target in the side or back and since it also stacks with the Flanking tactic, it makes it 40% when it's up. A thing I do sometimes on targets I know I can't kill in a few seconds is throw my DoTs on the target, once they are applied I pop Primal Fury and keep to their backs attacking with my big hitters (Fey Illusion, Lion's Fury, Cull the Weak, ect). The DoTs I applied get the bonus as soon as I get to their sides and back, gaining the increase from both Flanking and Primal Fury since it doesn't matter where you applied the DoTs, only where your are at the time of each DoT tick.

I just started t4 today and based on the hours I played nonstop SCs where WLs were raping everybody, I'd have to say they're very solid.

WL's are excellent at taking out SH especially and they are fun to play to. Given right conditions I've seen WLs rip through scenario.

Can a WL deal with a Marauder or Witch Elf?

Also, does the pet do much damage or is it just a little DOT?

Good Marauders can beat a WL, but they had to have exploited the double wounds debuff (which I think is fixed now). They are still a good fight without that, but it all depends on the gear and RR of each player mainly.

As far as WEs go, they are pretty easy to kill 1v1 even when they open up on you from stealth especially if you're Guardian specced. This is coming from a high RR WL's perspective which can be quite different for a lower RR WL.

Now, pet damage- The pet's damage is very significant if you're specced Guardian since that is the "pet build", especially if you pick up Leonine Frenzy. I mainly switch stances from Trained to Threaten > Trained to Kill > Trained to Threaten in fights since staying in one stance doesn't have as big of an effect as switching. TTT is great for the armor debuff from the pet (which stacks with our armor debuff for close to -2k armor) and TTK is great with Leonine Frenzy since the pet hits so hard in that stance.
