In a new 'Activity Report' on the official Darkfall Online forums, lead developer, Tasos Flambouras, talks about the new availability for players to level skills offline. Part of the reason Flambouras gives for bringing offline skill leveling to Darkfall is to cut down on the tedious, repetitive tasks that new players encounter when entering the game. By enabling offline skill leveling, new players 'close the gap' faster.
We’re hoping to launch it as soon as our next patch in a couple of weeks so there’s been a lot of activity around this feature, developer cooperation, feedback from everyone concerned, statistical analysis and all kinds of number crunching. Of course, the most important feedback will come from you, our players, and we’re sure there’s a lot more to be learned from your experience using this feature. We’ll also try to share more information with the community and get some feedback before we launch it.

This is amazing news. Really Shows AV is now listening to the community. Offline leveling along with there next expansion will save Darkfall.
@ Malcanis Hahahaha
I would be interested to see what skills they are including. I'm guessing it will be low level crafting and maybe lesser magic.
Sounds like DF might be trying to make a game that will survive. I hope they do, it was alot off fun.
Playing: BF4/BF:Hardline, Subnautica 7 days to die
Hiatus: EvE
Waiting on: World of Darkness(sigh)
Interested in: better games in general
Its a start, but it seems more to be covering up the problem that is the skill system in DF. I would hope they redesign the skill system from the ground up at some point.
This combined with prestige classes may finally end Darkfalls eternal grind situation! Interesting indeed. Lets wait to see how this plays out.
This is great news will be nice! And with the prestige classes and tons of new stuff and features this will bring back many OLD PLAYERS and keep the news ones that are subscribing as we speak!!! CANT WAit
No, only when they recognize that a skill cap is required will the game achieve any sort of success. Also they are only allowing certain skills to be leveled off line, not all.
Never thought I'd see this coming. I'm very curious to see how AV works it all out.
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
Love this comment.
For those people on the fence, the time to come back is now. I can only speak from my experience on NA-1, but the game has exploded in activity since this last expansion. A lot of people who left have returned and are staying.
Me being one that has resubed and ive been playing since EU launch
Wait a minute. The solution to prevent tedious gameplay is to not play the game? I can do that without subcribing to it...
Sounds like a band-aid solution to the problem that doesn't address the real issues, that being botting and tedious gameplay. Allowing everyone to macro to some extent isn't going to curb the existing people from doing it fully, nor will it make the skill system any better. Just seems like a transparent way to placate the casual user who can't or doesn't want to tough it out. They may as well just turn it into another WoW right now if they're going to start giving in to the demands of the whiny masses.
The game is so awful people don't want to skill up legitimately.
Who wants to play a game that doesn't require you to play it?
all they have to do is add some sort of targeting assist mechanism and they got 15 a month from me.
RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

Sorry, but... that's a bit much to ask. Kind of breaks the entire game and all of its features.
This is awesome news! If you're into sandbox games, were you make your own fun then darkfall is the game for you. The biggest issue with the game has always been macroing and the huge grind. I'm glad to see that its being addressed.

PUH-lease. You must be really new to Darkfall if you honestly believe that AV has ever, at any point, been listening to the community. The subject of making the char development process seem a little more involving and enjoyable than watching paint dry was beaten to death one week into the closed beta -- roughly two years ago.
Yes, they've been dancing around this thing for two years now and with this announcement it's clear they won't cease doing so any time soon. What is the point of implementing offline "leveling", when you could simply make it less grindy? Give people an incentive to go out into the world and actually play the game instead of setting up complicated macros to get their levels up. By implementing the offline leveling system, all they're going to achieve is make the world even emptier than it already is, since players will no longer be required to remain in the game to work on their characters.
Here's my feedback on how I think AV should deal with tedious and repetitive tasks: by making them less tedious and repetitive. Crazy, I know! For example, instead of making newbies swim around for 590345083490549035904385904380954903 hours and then macro for twice more than that to raise their stats and skills to a reasonable level, make it feasible to GM their weapon skills and several other "entry" skills by playing the game casually (i.e. 2hrs / 4 nights a week) for a month, so that a dedicated individual can achieve this in a week or so. There, problem solved. All done by modifying a few values here and there, no need to go and come up with a whole new system that isn't going to help this game one bit.
I'm sure there's going to be a bunch of people posting in their forums, telling them the exact same thing I just did, and I'm sure that - as always - they won't pay any attention to what these people have to say and just do what they do best: continue making the dumbest decisions possible and slowly digging their way into the ground as a result.
AV are a bunch of hacks and liars. If it wasn't for the fact that DFO is the only semi-working open PVP game with twitch gameplay, they would be out of the business already.
hahah. Nice.

i guess running an ever expanding game for almost 2 years and hiring more employees etc. doesn't prove anything. that's rich. lol
