Vindictus: Officially Launched

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Nexon has announced that Vindictus has been officially released. Developers call Vindictus the first true physics-based action MMO on the market today. The game uses a modified version of Valve's Source Engine to enable some impressive physics including hurling objects and monsters as well as grappling and armor degradation over time.

At launch, Vindictus is unlocking a powerful female mage character, Evie. Evie and her magic skills join Lann, the male dual-sword wielding brawler, and Fiona, the female sword and shield bearing fighter. Highly anticipated by players, Evie can summon a golem, heal injured comrades and unleash fire bolts.

Players will be able to access all three characters and the three available episodes at launch. Access tokens will also be refilled three times a week.

Players who participated in the previous open beta phases will be able to transfer their characters, rank, loot and other earned elements during the official launch.

Wait. you can't make your own characters? Am I reading that right?

Nice little dungeon crawler to waste time in from time to time. But definately no main course on any mmo player's plate.

Has it officially launched?  Or did they just add another playabale character?

Hmmm.  Apparently I was out of line, in an earlier post, when I corrected someone for saying that Vindictus was releasing on the 27th of this month.  I wasn't aware of an announced release date, and the game just didn't (doesn't) feel finished.

It's a nice little game to pass the time away while you're waiting for something with more "meat and potatoes" to come along, but there are still some serious lag issues which virtually prevent some players from grouping with others to complete their quests.  Since you can't progress in the storyline until you've completed prerequisites from earlier quests, this can be a game-killer for some folks.

Otherwise, it's a fun game.  Nexon has made a few changes to its token system at the behest of the community, and that should ease a lot of players' concerns about not being able to play often enough to stay interested.  The game still doesn't feel finished, though.  I believe there are 5 playable characters that will eventually be introduced, and only 3 are available.

It still feels like beta.  A fun beta, when you can get a group going, but still a beta.

It's possible to play this game for free, even if you live in Europe.

    It's not even that hard.

What turned me off though, was the lack of classes. But the addition of a 3rd class might make me try again.

Hopefully they'll open up a Nexon Latin America website in the near future as well, then.

Or remove the US/Canada only restriction from the NA servers.

You create a character and name it the same way as you do in any other mmo, they simply call each class by a character name for the purpose of the on going story line. Lann, the only male class right now is a duel wield dps, the first female class, forget her name is the tank and so on.

It's hard to consider this an offical launch, the game is still very much in the beta phase.

Basically, we still have all the same content from OB, apart from a new-but incomplete character (not as complete as the current content *should* allow), and many of the exact same bugs and issues are all still there waiting to be fixed. Not to mention no upgrade of the relay servers since CB began, connectivity for all players still drops dramatically 1-2 days after a maintenance (server resets) and does not improve until the next maintenance.

As someone in this thread previously said, it's a fun dungeon crawler to waste some time. Not really a main type of game but it's nice to spend a few hours a week for some action combat.

The game just didn't grab me.  It felt like a bad console action rpg that you would find for the xbox.  Nothing MMORPGish about it at all.

It has been released, but there are still some game breaking bugs.. awesome. One such bug right now is if you delete a character then create a new one with the same name, you cannot access the auction house nor the item shop. Been almost two days and Nexon hasn't even acknowledged it as a problem.

It's definitely a whole lot of time-killing fun - enough for me to fix it so I can play via US-VPN from the EU... but release-worthy? Not even remotely so.

Between "game-hosting mega-lag" (and it's notable that I lag -much- less than a lot of my US/Canadian friends, even through a VPN), the slew of existing bugs (a lot of which have been around since early CB) and the fact that 2 characters are still un-selectable, this is definitely still a beta and will be for quite some time.

But hey... it's Nexon: as always, you take your chances and be happy with what little amusing worth you can glean from their games before the RMT-spammers drive you insane (they've been there for most of beta, as is always the case with this company).

And if you're a completionist that doesn't like grinding? Steer well clear. The "special items" needed to complete some instance point rewards are horrendous when it comes to random drop rates. I've run one of the earliest instances over 200 times and still never had one of the items drop, to max out the rating (gained many levels in the process, admittedly). >_<

Shinzou: I haven't *ever* been able to access the auction house or item shop. Ever ever. Even when I logged into my account directly via an actual US computer (so there was no VPN), it still bugged out. The "no AH" annoys me way more than the item shop, though -- as I have no intention of ever using the latter. :)

But hey - even after all my complaints? Still fun for a good ol' monster smash. YMMV. Try it and see. :P

Casual free MMO with a lot of grind. But this Korean F2P has the best graphics I've seen in any F2p so far. But graphics is not everything. This game won't last on you long. I've played it a bit, and it didn't even last on me the whole beta time I was given. Its a very repetitive game with a very few dungeons to run. And you have to grind those dungeons a lot to get new equipment.

Basically the game is about equipment sets and every new one takes even longer to grind than the prvious one until you get all materials, then you exchange them for equipment pieces and start all over again in another dungeon for another set...

Vindictus is perfect for those of us who are in between mmorpg's or waiting for new content in our favorite mmo's.  It's still a long way from becoming a main game for 'hardcore' gamers.  It has potential, but will need a whole lot more content for it to become a main mmorpg.

I've been playing since day 1 and I still love the game. I will even help new players breeze through battles when I get bored. The only issue with the game is the lack of content and even then Nexon NA has been good with releasing the updates of the game pretty quickly only leaving 2 weeks to a month time between updates which is quicker then most free to plays I know. I just say try the game, you will either like it or find it boring, if you like the game you can find me on west server.

Just went open beta a few weeks ago, "Evie" a new character was released last week. 2 more to be released in the future. The graphics are really good but there hopefully will be an expansion in the future. And all instances is ok but there is no open world yet. It's not my everyday game but it is one of my fav's . Can't wait till the actual full release.

Beta is not finished, known bugs are still ingame. Will Game Companys never learn that you only get one chance to prove that your game is good.
