Our fans do a great job of translating articles very quickly but the fact is there will be differences--in terminology, game play mechanics, and services provided by the publisher-between the Western release and NHN's release of TERA. With these translations there will certainly be some misinterpretation, and we will do our best to react and clarify to the community.

Velika, the first major city, will have glyph vendors for each individual class.

The Basics of the Glyph System

image

The glyph system is made up of 300 different glyphs. Glyphs enhance certain skills. When a character reaches level 25 they will receive 10 glyph points that allow them to equip their first ever glyph. After that each level will grant the player 1 glyph point.

Once the player buys a glyph in one of the major cities, they can register that glyph to them and mix and match different glyphs. How many points you have determines how many glyphs you can equip.

You can buy the glyphs at the glyph vendor, though some may have level requirements. To reset your current glyph setup, simply go back to the vendor and the vendor will reset the glyphs for you. This will make it so that you can easily switch your glyphs out for different PVP and PVE sets.

(At left: Glyphs can be bought with in-game currency and prices vary based on level requirements.)

Different Types of/uses for Glyphs

Glyphs can enhance a skill, lower its cooldown, lower its mana cost, etc.

image

1. Warrior

Warriors can enhance their evasion skills and aggro acquisition abilities to become more stable tanks or they may enhance attack oriented skills to become more effective damage dealers. The Warrior's role will change significantly depending on its glyph setup.

image

Glyph of Assistance - Emergency Evasion (4 Glyph Points)

When you use the Rushing Dodge skill, you have a 10% chance to increase your movement speed.

With the help of enhancement crystals, the style of the Slayer will become well defined and unique.

image

Glyph of Mind - Chain Attack (4 Glyph Points)

MP recovered by Combo Attack will be increased.

image

image

Glyph of Assistance - Backstep (4 Glyph Points)

When you use the skill Backstep there is a chance to grant a buff called "Pact of Destruction". Pact of Destruction will cause the next skill used to gain a damage increase.

image

Glyph of Assistance - Mana Shield (5 Glyph Points)

When the skill Mana Shield is used, magic power will be increased for a short time.

image

image

7. Priest

Priests can become effective solo players or increase the effectiveness of heals and ailment curing. Instead of increasing the effect of heals, some glyphs will lower a skill's cooldown or add longetivity to a buff.

Mystics have glyphs that increase the amount of lock-on targets. Glyphs will also increase the duration of different types of status ailments. In particular, for the Essence of Leech: Imbibe skill, there are many options to choose from, so you have to give up glyphs for other skills if you want to apply multiple glyphs enhancing that one skill.

Racial Skills

Racial skills were added to uniquely define each race, however, racial skills will not provide any major advantages. Each race will have one active skill that can turn the tides of battle, but they will also have long cooldowns. (This is currently in developement so some things may change.)

Added Skills for Roles & PVP

Since the 3rd CBT we've added about 100 different skills. Each class received a skill to further define their roles and also to benefit them in PVP. This week we will cover some of the added skills that help define each class's personality.

1. Warrior

image

Flurry of Iron Will (Active): This skill is a 3 combo attack that does more damage as your HP is lower. Since Warriors can evade enemy attacks with their emergency evasion skill, they can keep their low HP and also deal great damage. The usefulness of this skill depends on how confident you are at keeping your HP low during PvP.

image

Shadow Clone (Active): At the cost of half of your current HP, you can summon a Shadow Clone of yourself. Your Shadow Clone can aid in tanking as its attacks cause a high amount of threat. During that time the Warrior can switch their role to DPS to aid in defeating the enemy.

Posted Image

The Shadow Clone doesn't attack random mobs and it may be used when the warrior is in danger.

2. Lancer

image

Oath of Protection (Active): When this skill is used, allies within range of the skill transfer a certain percentage of their damage taken to the Lancer. With this skill the Lancer can become a tank not only in PVE but also in PVP.

image

Wave of Threat (Active): This skill is an AoE slow skill, that prevents enemies from running past the Lancer.

3. Slayer

image

Forwarding Sprint (Active): The Slayer can use this skill to quickly charge forward.

image

Nerve Slash (Active): Sends out a damaging wave to attack an enemy and also making their cooldowns longer. (?) This is a skill useful for PVP, attacking enemies hiding behind a Lancer to make them deal less damage with the increased cooldowns. (Think I've understood this correctly.)

4. Berserker

image

Killing Will (Active): The Berserker sends out an AOE debuff that slows enemies and applies a status ailment that causes evasion skills to not be able to be used. This skill is very effective to face off against a Warrior or Slayer, during that short moment they can't evade the Berserker can apply massive amount of damage in short time.

image

Fury (Active): In PvE, this skill will slightly increase knock-back chance. During PvP the chance to knock-back will be greatly increased. This skill also raises your resistance to knock-backs, meaning you can knock your enemies back while they can't do the same to you.

5. Sorcerer

image

Weaken Nerve (Active): This skill applies a very weak DoT that restricts your opponents from using basic attack skills. This skill will be useful for defeating melee enemies.

image

Mind Exhaust (Active): This skill drains an enemy's MP, making sorcerers stronger debuffers than before.

Posted Image

Weaken Nerve and Mind Exhaust are both Lock-on skills, so the chance of them missing are very low.

6. Archer

image

Roundhouse Kick (Active): The Archer can quickly kick the opponent in front of them twice, applying a short stun.

image

Containing Shot (Active): Containing shot is a debuff skill that applies an attack speed and movement speed decrease. This skill is designed for PvP but it can also be used to slow enemies that get close to the Archer.

7. Priest

image

Holy Ground (Active): This skill is an aura like buff. It increases defense against ranged attacks also resistance to status ailments.

image

Blessing of Recovery (Active): Unleashes a strong self-heal that helps you withstand most focus fires. Going after the Priest first in PVP can be a very big mistake due to this skill.

Posted Image

8. Mystic

image

Curse of Chaos (Active): Applying this curse to enemies will put them in fear. Monsters will flee in fear and if you are a player your WASD keys will be changed, not being able to move where you want. This is useful in both PVP and PVE.

image

Stone Binding (Active): This skill makes everyone move at their 1/10 of their normal speed.

From the Desk of Brian Knox: How We Release TERA Information

We think it is important that the TERA community understands our process and how we coordinate information releases for a global product. Most importantly, we want to stress that TERA will be different in the west; this is a key thing to remember when reading information released from NHN or players experiencing TERA in Korea.

Every publisher for TERA is going to get exclusive content releases and have their time to shine. G-Star-the biggest game show in Korea-is this month, and NHN is going to do it up big-and I promise you it will be awesome. From there NHN will be first up to launch TERA, so they will continue to receive a large amount of focus in terms of information released about TERA. We will maintain the flow of information that you've come to expect from En Masse, but the big announcements will be coming from NHN. There will be times when you'll see information coming from NHN that is not immediately translated by us and reposted. This isn't because we're not talking to NHN (quite the opposite actually!), but because they need to have their exclusives just like we do.

We know you guys are starving for information and it will come directly from us eventually-we promise you. In the meantime we ask that you do not read any translations of the information coming from Korea... What? You can't promise that?!?! Ok, let's settle on this: let's agree to take the fan translations with a grain of salt.

The other cool thing about a global product is that much of your feedback and our Westernization process has impacted the Eastern release as well. You will see many of the features we designed and iterated here at En Masse in the NHN version of TERA. This is part of being a global product: taking the best from each territory and using what will work for your market. This is a good thing! We are working hard to ensure this game is ready for the West and takes your feedback into account.

So please stay patient, stay hungry, and enjoy the upcoming months as TERA develops-it should be an exciting experience for everyone.
