Better to multi-class?

BigfootBigfoot Member Posts: 364

I notice a lot of people are multiclassed characters. Is this really recommended to be a striving character? Or is it just your preference?

It depends on what you're going for I guess. I think most people would recommend taking a secondary. But all classes have more than enough attributes and skills to go "pure", and you'd be just as strong as anyone else. A lot of people to do take a secondary ultimately don't end up using it much. For example, I have a necro/monk. But I'm basically entirely necro, ony use 1 monk skill. It all comes down to options. If I wanted I could have gone primary necro just for the soul reaping attribute, and then go all monk skills.

No, it is really recommended. I don't think you gain any benefits if you don't have a sub class. Or do you?

I'd like to know aswell, if theres any benefit from not taking a secondary.

As far as I know, there is no benefit to going single-class. I think its good to take a secondary "just in case", even if you don't have a specific build in mind yet. If to dual-class, nothing stops you from totally ignoring the 2ndary (or primary for that matter), but it can be nice to have if you do decide to "branch out". There's nothing wrong with going pure, and your skills/attributes for your one class would be as good as anyone elses, but you are basically cutting your options in half by doing so.

definitely better... who isn't a multiclassed character? you lose nothing by being multiclass. There is absolutely no power advantage in any way by not picking a second class. eg. a pure monk can not heal better than a monk/anything else, nor do they have any armor, weapon, or stat advantages.. although weapon advantages could be gained with a secondary class, and you lose absolutely nothing by choosing a secondary class.

You lose nothing by picking a 2nd class!
But you have the chance to fix some vulnerabilities of your first profession by some new skills!

    2nd profession is highly recomendable!!!

Well with all my RP characters so far...ive not been able to even get into the Academy without taking a 2nd profession...so i guess yeah, its a good idea to take one.

Sorry for off topic, but I'm going to have nightmares now after seeing Avonyle's avatar. Creepy!

there are benifits to single class, if you could, which you cant, i know because ive tried, but the advantage is that you put the same amount of attribute points into less categories so as a single class you have

    A
    B
    C
    D

but with 2 classes you have to put the same amount of points into 7 attribute categories, so as a single class, your categories will be higher lvl as opposed to with 2 classes

I went pure warrior in the last beta weekend and absolutely loved it.

There are no disadvantages to just sticking with one class, other than you will have access to less skills.  I'm playing an Elem/Ranger, and the only skill I'm using the ranger line for at the moment is for charm animal.  When I do more pvp I may not use ranger skills at all, but it's nice to have the options.

Exactly right. If you dont pick your secondary you will have less of a choice for skill combos. Even if you only use 1 skill from secondary you will be more competitive because of it. You can put all your dev points on war skills for example which would make you the same as a pure warrior. You could take one skill from secondary that u like (debuff ,heal or pet for example) put no skill points on it and it could enhance your character greatly at no cost.

Well i've decided to go ahead a dual class. I'm still debating though. I'm doing all the quests for each class and experimenting which skills i'd like to use. So far i'm liking W/Mo and W/Me.

You could ofcourse go dual-class and put all your attribute points only in your primary class's attributes.
You'd be in almost the same position as a single class, the difference being that you're not locked down to just the skills for your primary, you could eventually go all secondary for that matter (e.g. an E/Mo using solely Monk spells)
Since you receive new attribute refunds every level (after level 20 you'll still be receiving attribute refunds and skill points once your experience bar is full again) it's easy to change attribute-values later in the game.
