MMOFPS games have not done very well.  Mostly because the FPS crowd usually plays a game until they are bored with it and move on.  It is hard to get anyone to pay for such a game for any length of time, hence I question how they intend to fund it.

I don't usually get sucked in by trailers, but that was pretty impressive to me. I like the look and feel of the whole thing and now I haveta go read up on the rest of the features....thanks a lot.. :P

This isnt entirely true.  Take a look at Planetside.  Upon release it did incredibly well early on.  Its downfall was the lack of development, and additions post-release, to keep things in game "fresh".  Provided the developers of Firefall can keep up with the tedious work of post-release development, they could do quite well.

Looks promising & maybe a good sign for of sci-fi shooter MMOs too?

This is a good looking game with a very active and enthusiastic community. Check it out. Well worth the look. They actually have a great vision for the game.

I've heard its F2P, dont quote me on that jusy yet though.

As regard to the "FPS crowd plays a game untill they are bored with it and move on", thats the same with any genre and activities in real life to.

People dont play ANY game if they are bored of it.

    Yep .... on my watchlist.

Very much looks like merger of Borderlands and Global Agenda .... loved both :)

Global Agenda has done and is doing very well with only box sales.  Are they in the realm of WoW?  Of course not.  But the sales of their game has funded the servers and their staff with no monthly subs.  It all depends on how they setup the servers.  The FPS genre has the advantage in that the FPS players are already used to having a lobby system and queueing for matches.  Having any sort of persistent world is a step up from what was really available before.

Firefall doesn't have to be revolutonary to be successful, it just has to work.  If they can release it without having bugs and crashes, they'll probably be fine.  Oh, and if their players offer suggestions and the devs listen.  I think that's a big part of why Global Agenda works.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I agree with you there completely. Borderlands was highly successful so I'm hoping for a lot from this game too. Pretty unknown so maybe it'll be an underdog?

Well, stop maybe, comparing Firefall to borderlands just because of cell shaded graphisms ...

I dont know how "persistent" their world will be ... i just hope they'll dont use any kind of instancing in Firefall.

I just have so good memories of what planeside was, and how it could have been with development. And there was no instance!

GA could have been great (i just tested it 1 week) but, well ... there is only instancing, with quite limited number of players.

GA with open world + planetside tactical feel = Firefall?

    Well, i do hope!

Well I went to red 5 website to take a look see, and now I know why the character models looked a lot like wow

    I found this info

A PvE MMOFPS? Why not, if there are enough carrots? The trailers look interesting.

  • reanorreanor Member UncommonPosts: 441

Yeah, MMOFPS don't have a history of successful games on MMO market. For some reason people just get bored too soon. The only FPS people like is PvP, like CS, but then again that's a very casual approach. You don't feel obligated to do anything. Whenever they force you to work on something in FPS world and make it an MMO - it usually lasts as long as people's interest for FPS - very inconsistent and short lasting fun. Number of MMOs already proven that this genre is not a successful pick for MMO game.

Looks like a blast. Lets see how it plays once it launches.

Because one guy worked as team lead for wow, the graphics look like wow?

Not only do they use cell-shading, after watching this video 3 times, i see no resemblance with WoW at all, not even remotely.

Looks pretty interesting, cartoony graphics or not (makes sense in a mmofps actually, easier to draw more on the screen at once)

This is the original 10 min trailer re-cut with music. If I hadn't watched that about 19 times in a row I'd be ecstatic. Regardless my hype for this game is beyond words, reading the developer interviews in the past and seeing how passionate they are about the game they're creating is quite assuring. Then learning about its ties to Tribes (as if you couldn't tell) had me really psyched.  If this and Blade and Soul hits their mark in 2011 I'll probably not play much else.

The game world reminds me of Avatar. You fight hostile native creatures in order gather their planet's natural resources. Not that I have a problem with that, the two just seem somewhat similiar.

    Very interesting looking.

I wish I was better at shooters. That looks like loads of fun.

Oh...and is it just me, or do the character animations really "feel" and look a lot like Borderlands?  I loved the art design of that game. I thought it was so unique, creative, and compelling.  Really does remind me of Borderlands.

I think it will be more like Darkfall - Dark + Fire = Firefall

MMO1st/3rd person shooter PvE? I hope they succeed to give that flavor of gaming to the masses.  Tabula Rasa tried something like that didnt they?  I'm done with the boring PvE in an MMO game unless it incorporates great RvR.  I can get boring PvE from single player games with better stroyline and graphics.  Massive Multiplayer PvE just doenst turn my crank anymore.
