I just had a long conversation with a LOTRO GM in-game. I had purchased all of the premium woodworker guild recipes up to artisan crafting on the Acquaintance level of reputation. I learned them and went hunting. I play a couple of hours and logged out and went to bed. I got up this morning and when I logged in, ALL of the reputation items I had busted my but grinding for were now GONE! And so was the money. I petitioned a GM and surprisingly, one responded very quickly. Despite the quick response, I was told they could see the purchase but nothing after that and I could not be refunded neither price nor item. So if the game is going to lose things you work very hard to acquire and there's no recourse, what is the point in playing in the first place?
You have been warned.

I did learn them and opened the crafting interface and verified them. Even took note and scratched my head at the expense of some of them. I also compared the reputation recipe versus the one-shot drop recipe. Same item, just more expensive because the recipe isn't supposed to poof after use. I lost nearly a dozen items. Lost half my money balance buying them and can't get either back. Like I said, you've been warned. Something is broken and they're trying to play the "we are not at fault" card when there IS something wrong. I pay to play and got screwed, what chance does a F2P have?

I'm unclear what exactly is gone. Are the recipes themselves gone? You said in the first post the "items" are gone - did you craft the rep items, actual weapons, or both? If it was the rep items (ie small/medium artisan token), did you at any time afterwards sell to a vendor? I ask because you mentioned you spent a couple hours hunting after you made ther purchases. It is possible to accidentally sell those rep items until you lock them. I've almost done it a couple times.
I'm just trying to figure out how stuff would vanish. I've played LOTRO since closed beta 1 4 years ago and I've never seen anything actually disppear from a bag, or have a recipe vanish unless it was a 1-shot.
If it was the recipes themselves that are gone from your crafting panel, I'd definitely /bug it as well so it goes to someone at Turbine's attention above the GM level.
OK, exact sequence of events. (US SERVER-DWARROWDELF) Walk into crafting hall and turn in 2 medium rep items, 1 yew and 1 lobethron, reached acquaintance level rep status. Talked to vendor with acquaintance level expert and artisan recipes. Purchased 12 recipes. Stepped back from vendor, learned all recipes to book. Opened book to verify placement, noted to self that A) expensive to make and required tokens on 24 hour cooldown per token to manufacture. I left the crafting hall and went hunting. Came back to Esteldin about 2 hours later, logged out and went to bed. Got up this morning, ALL of the recipes learned were no longer in my crafting book. With this being a F2P server and I do buy F2P Items with points sometimes, I was very lucky that the thing only took items purchased with silver. That happened once before and it was such a cheap purchase that I didn't bother reporting it, but it was with points. The first time I bought the riding skill, 48 points on sale, on my alt character, that skill disappeared as well forcing me to re-buy it.
My gut is saying no.............
@Sattracerpw
What you experienced is referred to as a Rollback. I.e. you do something for an hour, and then due to server trouble or something everything you did gets undone, as if the last hour never happened. This is a) serverwide and b) extremely rare. I kinda doubt it happened in fact, because there would be lots of screaming with thousands of affected players.
Learned recipes do not just vanish, you are not on a F2P server, infact F2P has nothing to do with it. This is a mechanic that has been in the game for years, i think someone would have kinda noticed if there was a problem with it. No offense, but i think human error is far more likely. Its just very very unlikely that there is a database problem or something that eats only your learned recipes. Maybe check again your learned recipes, guild recipes have their own subfolder and are not among your normal recipes.
I've had my recipes sometimes not show up. All I have to do is close the crafting pane and open it again, and voila.
Important facts:
1. Free to Play games are poorly made.
2. Casuals are not all idiots, but idiots call themselves casuals.
3. Great solo and group content are not mutually exclusive, but they suffer when one is shoved into the mold of the other. The same is true of PvP and PvE.
4. Community is more important than you think.
Wow much like the above poster I've played for quite sometime and have never really noticed anything like this happening myself (items vanishing) but I would say that what that GM told you makes no sense unless his meaning was that he as a GM couldn't do anything about it and he just communicated that poorly.
Most mmorpg's as I know them for atleast a set amount of time log everything you do and I see no way that this could be a policy matter "to not refund items" the company knows a person paid for and did not vendor/sell or trade. It is possible that this is an issue that you should take further up the chain.
To add also I can understand that the point value may have not been much but if this was an issue you had before you really shouldn't have let that slide your points are esentially your time and money and that is dictated by the system they set up, sure you may have gotten them from deeds or some such but you could just as easily have spent money on those points and just giving money away like that isn't a good idea, especially if you are going to hold it against them later when they never get the issue resolved.
I am lucky to not have had many if any problems at all with this game or Turbine but I will say if I were you I wouldn't be going away on the word of a GM.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
There was a problem with the riding skill disappearing on some for a few weeks. There was some bug that if you were doing some other type of action the skill would not register properly. My understanding is that when this happened Turbine was refunding those it happened to assuming it was reported to them by the player.
As to the other issue mentioned by the op never heard of it or experienced it.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
Yeah his issue seems rather odd.
I have a hard time beliving it.

While it has not happened to me, I do know a couple of people who have had either their Shared Vault completely wiped or their Bank items completely wiped. It is apparently rare and TURBINE will not replace items so lost.
Let's party like it is 1863!
I know when F2P first hit NA people had their wardrobe completely wiped but that is about it.
Must really suck for those people.
