Technical Question

Nomad_SoldieNomad_Soldie Member Posts: 7

I am not very aquainted with the hardware for a PC. I am wanting to upgrade my video card so Everquest will run smoother. Right now I have a Intel Extreme Graphics Controller.

Chip Type: Intel 82845G/GL Chip
DAC: Internal

I don't understand this, so my question is: Could I use an AGP Interface Video Card? If it helps, I cannot find anywhere on my system specs where anything is integrated.

Any feedback at all would be greatly appreciated.....

It all depends on your motherboard. I would guess that you have an AGP slot, but you might not, like my poor friend who bought a Dell. Its not a bad PC, but when I went and cracked his tower open to install a new video card, he didn't have an AGP slot. It kind of blew me away actually.

Do you know the type/make of your motherboard? If not try checking it through your BIOS. You usually can access your bios by hitting a key when the computer starts up, usually its like delete or F1.

    Hi there!

I noticed your graphics controller had 845G in it. 845G happens to be a chipset from Intel with integrated graphics. So you have some kind of motherboard with an Intel 845G chipset.

Good news is that it has an AGP slot on it. The bad news is that it is only AGP4x. I would suggest either a 9800 Pro video card or 5900XT. They are both 8x video cards, but they are compatible with that slot, and shouldn't be choked off by it too much. Most of the 8x adapters did not show significant usage of the 8x bus. In fact, most of them barely eat up the 4x.

Do not purchase any video card with an MX or SE. 9800 SE is terrible, and no MX cards by Nvidia can run EQ.

If you tell us your price range, we might be able to help more.

I found one on Ebay I am thinking about,

    XFX (Pine) Geforce2
    Model: PV-T10F-MT
    nVIDIA Geforce2 Ti
    64MB DDR Memory
    64Bit
    AGP Interface

Does this one seem to be okay?

For the price range issue, maybe around $50...
