SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Masthead Studios and the Earthrise development team have joined with MMORPG.com to bring you a month's worth of exclusive screens. We have the first batch for you today that feature a player in a very bleak environment filled with rusting hunks of metal. Check them out in our Earthrise Exclusive Screenshots #1 feature.

screens just arent going to cut it anymore.

something must be wrong with this game. the site loses more followers every day and they do nothing to asuage the fears of the potential player base.

on the ER site yesterday I asked for the ETA on the movie we were promised would be out in "september at the latest" and the post was deleted altho it violted no terms of use for the site.

    shame. game had such promise.

This has fallen off my radar, staretd out with good hype tho.

  • DekronDekron Member UncommonPosts: 7,359

Looks like nothing special. It appears the avatar is floating in the last screen.

  • FishmittsFishmitts Member CommonPosts: 227

I hope someone breaks NDA, then we can all know whats REALLY going on.

I agree with the first poster. Screens don't cut it anymore. My excitement and expectations for this game are starting to slip. How can we believe this game is near release if we have seen nothing more than "screenshots". I hope they come through soon and refresh the excitement for this game.

Yea, im not sure if this game will ever come out, its a shame really.

  • BeanpuieBeanpuie Member UncommonPosts: 812

i still remember the first video that was posted about ER and we know how that went.

    screens wont cut it anymore...

  • mckimminsmckimmins Member UncommonPosts: 51

I have been excited about this game for a long time but this is frustrating. Just another set of screens showing nothing! and to top it off the last screen has the guy floating a few inches off the ground (or maybe I am just seeing it wrong).

I don't care anymore, Eve has me so firmly in its grasps that I can wait another year or longer for another good sandbox.

i always love MHS for giving out SS, i truly am, but seriously it's getting boring

and it's 2 months away from passing the Q4 2010 release date

still no new video, no news about whatsoever, not even OB news, all they rely is now a "REPEATED" Dev talk for some random website that is "About Eearthrise" that we already know 2 years ago, and QOTW which is giving new info, but leading nowhere since there is no indication whether if the QOTW will be there on the game or not

and, although i will still wait and play for this game no matter how much i whine and complaint

but i got to agree now that, for me, MHS need to learn how to please the fans, they are probably making a good game, but they expect to get lots of players without even giving anything out for 2 years

oh and btw, i dont think the model is floating in the last SS, it's just the Placement of the shadows that made it looks like it's floating

    So What Now?

  • wicked45wicked45 Member Posts: 59

They don't even have the players avatar picture matching the actual player model on the screen.  Do you actually think they will release this year?  Everyone on this thread is dead on.  Whenever you see tons of screenshots (In this case "an entire months worth") clearly that is because the playability is not worth showing off.

the only thing it could make combat awesome in this game would be the mass effect combat system that would be awesome but that is just me

I was excited for this also but it has fallen almost entirely off my radar now :(

More screenshots... yawn. Why is it apparently so hard to make a video showing gameplay?

What these screens show is a new environment.

I don't understand what all the fuss is about a video. Take those screenshots above, imagine the character running from frame to frame. There's your video. Doesn't really tell us much more.

TBH though I don't know why Masthead doesn't spend a day putting some uninformative clips together.

We already know this is a sandbox game with a deep crafting system and unrestricted PVP. It has been likened to pre-NGE SWG and EVE online. That pretty much sells it for me, video or not.

I never was excited about this, and as more screens come out I am just not impressed at all. If screens is all they have to show, then there MUST be something they don't want us to see. I've seen gameplay, granted it was a year old, and it looked almost turn based; rather slow anyways (Slower than final fantasy's and hardly any strategy involved). Never was and i doubt ever will be on my radar.

Uh, no. Imagination is not how you sell a game. "Look at these stills and imagine your character harvesting, crafting and fighting for control of territory. We're not going to show you how it actually works in the game though. Just use your imagination!" Using just imagination is a great way to be disappointed when you finally get to play the game. You imagine it to play this way, but it actually plays that way.

They already released a video of gameplay a while back and it showed that PvP was pretty slow paced and was rather boring. They got a lot of feedback on it and said they would be changing it. Now people are wanting to see how it's been changed.

Does anyone think this game will actually launch before summer 2011?

Exactly. Show us  that there has been significant progress. Posting screenshots that look the same as they did a year in a half ago isn't cutting it . How can we believe its everything they say it is if it's been over 1.5 years since we have seen proof of a working product. I hope this is all just part of there master plan. Either way I can't deny that I will be ordering it as soon as it  becomes available.

Apparently, you never got the Memo.

When the TARGETING video, not combat, not PvP, TARGETING (get that fact straight people), it was misconstrued as actual combat, when they made it more than clear it was more to show how their soft-lock targeting system worked. Despite that, Masthead studios made it known they heard the complaints, and started working on redesigning the combat systems to make it more fast-paced.

Last year (pretty much exactly) they made mention of a new combat video being produced, and mentioned that in January that it would be ready. It's nearly a year later and we haven't gotten much more than that initial nugget. So excuse the few people who have been following the game for the past couple years or so who aren't in a state of "oooh" and "aaah" over screenshots.

I'll admit its nice to see the UI finally, but that's about it. Besides, it being likened to doth not equate to it working out the same way, and taking it based solely on a few screenshots of boxes filled with colored, smaller boxes, and what we've heard, shouldn't sell a game solely upon that alone.

So all those AoC zone flythroughs and fatality clips gave people a really good idea of what playing that game was about?

The EVE massive fleet trailers accurately describe the day to day life of an average player?

LOTROs clips of bear and boar model animations showed the rich world of that version of Middle Earth? Ok, bad example.

I'm not suggesting people use their imagination, that would be a terrible thing for a gamer to have to do! Check the facts on forums.play-earthrise.com

Have to say I'm with the majority here.  Screenies just don't cut it anymore.  I'm losing interest rapidly now and without any sign of a  vid showing the gameplay(combat in particular) am also starting to question if this game will ever be released.

  • vajravvajrav Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 146

I just wish they gave us a realistic deadline. It's pretty obvious that Q4 2010 isn't realistic.

I want to play this game but I want it to be done right, so I'm willing to wait. Just be honest about the release date.

Again, COMBAT VIDEO. And in case you didn't know environmental fly-throughs don't equate to that.

Learn to read buddy, it would really help your argument. Comprehension could use a little work too. Though I'll admit I hate to suggest that to you, seeing as you must really hate both.

We're not asking for cinematics or short, edited, flyby clips. We're wanting to see an actual video of gameplay. There are already videos of GW2 and even SW:TOR that do this. It doesn't have to be several minutes long. Just long enough to show the changed combat mechanics and general gameplay.

Quit harping on imagination. Imagination works for card games, board games and even RPG, but gameplay can make or break an MMO. If the gameplay sucks, you can't just imagine it plays better.

wtf with the screenshots.  It isn't 1998.  You can't give only screenshots on a title thats already supposed to have been released and expect people to give a rat's ass.

Seriously, it just pisses people off.
