Just the fact that they are now "playing" their characters after they've been exposed shows that they weren't hiding behind another character. Shows pretty clearly that the stories they created were purely for shilling.
That's quite hilarious. Can't even get their paid shills to play the game.
Yeah lol, this was great and made my day lol. Thank you OP! It's always hilarious when a company gets busted using these kinds of marketing strategies. Yes, pretty much every company uses them, but not all get caught and that just makes it funny as hell when one does get caught.
Reminds me of the Nividia Fermi's demo when they were busted for using a moch up instead of having an actual working card lol.
Again, yes I know it's common practice, but that just makes it all the funnier when someone gets caught lol.
It makes it maybe funny, but as said we all aspect things like that from any company only in this case we make an elephant out of a fly.
There are sure worse things around like Blizzard with their gift spending for help organisation by selling a virtual pet. Basicly they got because of this "good deed" more money in as if they would have got without it.
Hm this maybe would be a good topic in the general forum. It is really sort of interresting behind how many "good things" is pretty well calculated marketing.
I'm not sure about you or others on this forum, but I don't accept blatantly shitty behavior from a major company; especially one that I have given money to.
What are you even saying with your second paragraph? It reads like you're hating on Blizzard because they donated money to a charity. Yes, they made money from it, and yes, they got publicity from it as well. What does that have to do with paid shills (who can't be bothered to play FFXIV)? The two are totally unrelated. Then again, when you have nothing to say, bashing Blizzard seems acceptable.
In an even more bizzare move, one of the "official players" must have felt embarassed enough from being caught lying about her stories that she felt the need to play for a few hours again. Wonder how long she will last?
Can't wait to see if her new stories actually match with her experiences this time around. LoL
" Mangaka Kayoko Saito drew 5 manga about the game and reported extensive travels (none of which, strangely, showed up in her play history), but her play history logged only 2 achievements over (at least) 4 minutes of playtime.
After the introduction of the history feature and the subsequent reduction of the “official players” to laughing stocks she suddenly took a renewed interest in the game, logging 14 achievements over a 6 hour play session – her first since the game launched over a month ago. "
None of the other "official player" characters have completed as much as a single mission.
Maybe they cashed their checks already?
Hey, maybe she just ran out of material lol. Wait, it cant be that hard, just copy and paste. It worked for FFXIV....
I don't personally know and neither does anyone else in this thread, but it is possible these people played on different characters.Just because those particular characters showed a certain amount of game time means nothing. They could have played at a friends house with their player or using another co workers player. This would allow them access to more of the game and enable them the ability to comment further. These people wouldn't even need to have played at all, they could have watched a friend or co worker play.
I mean geesh i see people on this very site come back from playing maybe 2-5 minutes of a game from some gaming expo and tell us how the game is the next coming of christ.
Personally it should not matter 1% how many are playing or who is playing, all that SHOULD matter is what a game does for YOU,not someone else or 5 million others, unless you are a total follower without a brain to think for yourself.I personally do not like FFXIV at all,but no one else opinion matters at all to me as to weather i liked it or not.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

You know, I have no idea what your trying to say. I said it's common practice, it's just that many don't get caught. When someone does get caught it's funny. You seem to agree that it's common practice, so I will assume the rest of your incomprehensible post is saying you agree and find it funny as well.

Man that can't be good for her or Square's reputation
Well why not ask Square or her directly, since you manage so easy to get so much details about a person, which amybe would be for me a reason alone to not tell people my real account around this place. I bet someone crys than that I was around 2-3 days barely logged in. :P
Oh consideirng he is totally right in anything and you all agree on it, why do you not sure directly SE instead of make over and over the same topics again? Considering the size of the company you sure can find someone that would try it.
Why don't you skip over such threads if they offend you?
Why should people stop discussing something because you don't agree with it?
If you don't want to see criticism of the game or its developers, then don't read those threads or posts. Simple. You're not *forced* to read them, you know.

Common tactic among people who have no good arguments for the topic at hand... They try to divert the attention toward something else. I'm sure Selphares would love nothing more than for this thread to be derailed into one about Blizzard's "shady charity activities", rather than SE. And, yes, the Blizzard thing is a very silly comparison to draw.
So long as poeple don't take the bait, it's fine. It just demonstrates that there is no real argument in defense of what SE's pulling here, so the next best thing to do is try to avoid addressing it.

To make it short, I meant just that people maybe shouldask about this directly by SE or that person for the reason of the low playtime and be it only for hearing an interresting try of explanation.
As for the other question why I post in critic threads about Final Fantasy 14 I guess it is the same reason why other people always run like a pack of wolves in the other Threads, which are even asking for an opinion about the game and write down their enlightment that it is the worst game ever.
I will now promise to stop to write at any negative thread about the game, when at the other threads stops the not topic related negativity.
gosh are you really trying a real conversation about such BS? seriously?
what do you expect us to say: "yeah you are right all along SE is soo bad we gonna quit the game and follow you"
as far as other people are concerned: we do NOT care for you. Post whatever you want doesn't make a difference in our point of view. and yeah come to think of it: you don't think other firms do this as well?
why might this have come out you ask? that SE might have done this?
well a lot of people hate on this game and SE in general (yeah they went downhill we all know that blablabla). So they suck up everything they can.
and yeah before you try to defend your opening of this stuff please be aware: you did this to clarify that SE is so bad they have to fake player entrys or pay them. or maybe to inform us about this horrible thing SE does.
disgusting how you list up every little thing in these forums that you can find.
but you sure are a motivated person with so much to say. too bad you don't like the game....
Huh?
When someone is burned by an experience for which he had high hopes there is a lot of negative energy to burn. It DOES become fun and interesting to rip apart the company. If there was another good game to convert the initial enthusiasm for FFXIV into then the game of ripping apart SE wouldn't be so appealing. But it is. It really is!
I have played the game A LOT. And I have been very patient. I have also been very frustrated. I completely understand the OP's motivation. He IS finding hilarious and ridiculous things that SE is doing and bringing them to the rest of us as warnings but also as fodder for our scorn. We are NOT happy with SE for the game as it is. Once it's not free, it will be interesting to see who stays aboard.
I, by the way, am on my 3rd character, because I had trouble deciding which race and took it as an opportunity to start in each city for the different maini quests. All of my characters have been on Figaro - Time Lord (Cat-person out of Grid), Val Kyrie (Gnome out of Uld, and finally back to Time Lord but as a Gnome out of LL. I got the first Time Lord to R22 LNC with around R10 in a few others, Val Kyrie got to R19 LNC and 6/8 in a few others and the new Time Lord is reaching 16 LNC soon.
I hit SE's fatique on the first character and the second. I then hit RL fatigue playing that game at all. But since the game relies so heavily on crafters, being far behind the combat leveling curve is a good thing. Being ahead is terrible - esp. on Figaro where polearms are hard to find. Those restraints helped me back up and restart my toons with no concerns. I was too far ahead and needed to retard myself. (Well, playing this game at all is pretty retarded, so I guess it's working).
BUT - since it's free, and since it rewards playing as little as possible, it is not that unbearable if taken for short bursts. never go anywhere you can't teleport and never play if you don't have a Leve up is a good idea. Then you won't get bogged down in the grind/how empty the game is.
That being said - it is shameful and hilarious all at once that SE would run a fake campaign of "real" players. What a douche move.
Completely hilarious. They get busted, and by their own game feature!
For those who seem clueless, let's forget about all the embarrassment and bad press SE is getting...the extreme copy and paste and no content.
The bottomline is, SE wasted money on starlets to fake their way to getting subscribers instead of spending it to make the game the best it could be. I mean really, they must have fired all the original Squaresoft employees and replaced them with Enix employees.
Regarding the fakers, they couldn't give that account to friends or family or some kid to play? Use your brain already.
Not get me wrong, but is it not a bit of to overdone to add to the profile picture the text:
'SE "official player" experiences revealed as fake', special since it is mainly an assumption and not actually a fact?
I mean I honestly understand if Square people not want to be revealed to the public, special considering some people these days.
Aside of that it would be actually easy for the owner of the Server to create fictional playtimes as well. The databank normally spills out what you save in it, so it would be easy to create fictional playtimes. On the other hand this maybe sounds to rational and not allows such great big news threads I assume. Not to mention that propably any company does it in some degree, you will not belive how many marketing guys work on stuff like that worldwide.
I sincerely doubt SE has a marketting department >_> Wtf are you thinking?
oh yes they have a marketing department. but they will never do a big campaign outside of Japan. mostly because people tend to say: SE sucks brecause of this and this and that. So SE knows that their marketing money for example in the US would be totally wasted. there is no reason at all for SE to do marketing in the US and Europe. why should they?

You do realise even FF XIII sold millions of copy in US and Japan and SE spent tens of million on marketing that game here. Same with Kingdom Hearts and etc.
It has been proven that SE has paid folks to give fake personal reviews to support game. If game really was any good this shouldn't have been needed. It shouldn't be surprising that SE is doing it best to give itself better reviews on sites like this. The first thing that caught my eye when logged on is rating of 6.5. I was like "How can it be that high. It's terrible."
I played AOC it wasn't bad at launch. I don't find it that different than now really. It's not amazing but it isn't bad.
I think games have evolved past the UO and EQ days though that they warrant a little more attention payed to their quality. Seems like we've gone backwards more often than forwards and companies using "fake" players to advertise their games doesn't help the industry's reputation either.
