I have been playing again for about a month. My impression is that it has been much improved with the last two ( 1.9 & 2.0 ) patches but not essentially changed. If you didn't like the game at release at all and thought it was simply broken then you will probably not be satisfied with what has changed. If, on the other hand, you liked the game but got frustrated with it, that is frustrated with leveling, frustrated with the ganking, frustrated with boss drops, then you will probably be pretty pleased with the game now.

They have changed a lot in terms of adding quests, repeatables, giving more exp from quests and mobs, giving more money from quests and mobs, upping drop rates for instance bosses. Coin quests give more coins. coin rewards are choosen from a list rather than at random. The list just goes on and on. The game still takes time to level though, it definitly hasn't been nerfed into a pushover but the harsher edge of the grind has beeen taken off.

Of course the other big thing was nerfing ganking in the leveling zones.  The big down side that I see is that the xeno/betonis quests are very difficult to pull off now. They can still be done but not easily and usually only at odd hours. But you can get as good or better weapons from coins now and the new areas have lots of great stuff. It was worth the price paid I think.

But mostly it has force people to go to the abyss to do their ganking. The new ground pvp in Balaurea has made up for it though. These zones are the zones for leveling 50-55 so there is not shortage of people in them and with the smaller spread of levels the fighting should be a bit more even.

I think the game is great now. I liked the game before but got frustrated after a while and took a break, but now I am back and loving the changes.

    Addendum--

As to the problem of faction balance on the servers, it is mostly old news. Israphel, Siel and Vaizel are pretty even now in terms of abyss control. Zikel is still lobsided but not being completely rolled. Nezekan is pretty messed up though but that was the one server that didn't get merged with any others because it is the only one on Sydney time. Some have suggested that it should be merged into Vaizel which is a west coast server, this may be the only solution to the problem. It would be a shame though for those in that timezone to do sieges. But over all the server faction balance has improved a lot in the last few weeks. Abyss and Balaurea PvP is healthy and happy on more servers than not.

    All die, so die well.

In todays gaming market you are pretty much running a low end system now.  A 2.1 Gig duo core with 7900 Graphics card...ugh.  TBH Aion is pretty generous when it comes to low end system compared to a lot of games but you need an upgrade lol.

Oh and I checked the box and you dont meet the minimum recommended system either. Its 2.8Ghz

I loved the game when it first came out, the thing that absolutely killed my experience was actually the rampant gold farming, gold bot spawn farming and chat spam. The game was intuitive and creative and I was having a great time with it until I reached the lvl 30 area and found all the spawn camp bots.

So is this still as rampant as it once was?

I agree it was bad but they put a end to that last december with a mass banning(over 70,000 accounts).  Since then bots are almost non-existent.  I run across one every once in a while but its rare.

That's good to hear. I'm a lot less patient with MMOs these days since so many hyped MMOs have fallen flat on their faces; they're not neccessarily poor titles, just not my flavor. So when I ran into that issue, needless to say it was a deal breaker for me instantly. I may have to resurrect this title.

There is one thing and only one thing that would get me to resub to aion.

If they opened a new server with no transfers.

With all the changes I would want to start from level 1 and not have level 55s in the world when I started.

So you wont start any game then?  I mean no matter what game you play whether its WOW, AOC, WAR, etc there will be people ahead of you.  I mean there will even be people ahead of you a day after a server opens.  Am I missing something?

  • centkincentkin Member RarePosts: 1,527

While I have come back to other games before I have NOT come back to a PVP game without a new server being opened.

Unfortunately, it's not much of a gaming computer you can get for 1300 $ ... Unless I'd be upgrading it after 4-6 months or so..

Just resubbed myself on Siel as Elyos seems pretty balanced, actually atm Asmo's own more forts ....

I'm loving the solo instances you can keep doing the repeatables for them and get some really nice stuff a weapon, and a pet and money, potions etc...

Overall I like the rift changes also, nice to be able to actually level without getting steamrolled by level 30's in all orange pvp gear...

How is the community? Are there many guilds? This topic has almost convinced me into resubbing but I would love to know if I could fit into a guild with some decent people.

    Current MMO: WoW/GW2

There are tons of casual guilds that help members out and do PvE, etc.  There are also more hardcore guilds for those who want to go that route.  Like most MMO's there are plenty of guilds out there, just need to find one that suits your playstyle.

Thinking about resubbing but question is if it's worth putting a lot of time in this game again and being geared and capped in empty servers just in time for Guildwars 2.

  • AzureSkiesAzureSkies Member UncommonPosts: 59

Sounds nice. Guess I wanna resub too. But I'm quite confused ; do you download the expansion for free or do you have to buy it?

  • TheMinnTheMinn Member Posts: 397

I resubbed awhile ago. I am enjoying my playing. I have a 20 elyos ranger + 33 cleric asmo. when we all playing =)

If you already own the original the expansion content is free. All you need is a subscription.

I think NCSoft did well with that decision - I hate having to pay for expansions in games with a subscription.

If you buy the expansion version anyway (it is mostly aimed at new players)  you'll get a disc with a later client version (less to download if you re-install), a month playtime and 2 ingame pets. (Similar pets are available from the pettrader ingame).

We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!!
    (repeat ad infinitum)
