Love every idea in this game. It's like the developer not only had a window to my mind but a magnifier on that window. It's awesome!!! I cannot possibly express the love I have for this game's ideas. Now whether or not they translate from paper to code as well will be seen within the next two years. Keep going Arenanet!

And can't you see that even games with subscription needlessly open Items stores ar you can buy potions, gear and mounts. And the regular updates you speak are usually just minor tweaks, bug fixes and may a lil bit of extra content every couple of months; which is the same thing that a subscription-less game like Guild Wars 2 would do. GW2's Item store is only slated to carry cosmetic items, character slots, name changes & maybe some extra dungeons and I'd rather pay a reasonable "one off" fee for a dungeon pack than spend £40s worth of subscription fees before I get the content that I want from a subscription-based game. So your arguements for subscriptions in MMOs are pretty useless when compared to the "buy to play" games GW1 & GW2.

Also in the 4th paragraph of this article I noticed a mistake:

"but that should stop you from bringing friends along if you so choose…"

    - meant to be "shouldn't"

You really don't know Anet do you.. the in-game shop in GW1 NEVER had any kind of items that made you more powerful. And if they say it's going to be the same in GW2, I believe them, because they've proven themselves numerous times. Simple as that.

    QFT

ANet is such a reputable company I dare say every other company should follow example of how do to it

When was the last time you saw a Game Company with a Fricken "A" from the BBB?

“I just hope that it’s abundantly clear what the results of your questionnaire answers are”

I don’t, it is about time MMO’s gave us choices which effect and differentiate our avatars. I really hope that the questionnaire hinders and helps our avatars without us being entirely sure of the outcome. As the story of the game develops I would hope that the effect your questionnaire has on you changes to reflect the story of the game. This will stop people tweaking their questionnaire for end game, by the time you reach it the benefits and penalties may have changed.

"Housing in GW2 seems less about crafting and collecting baubles (as in EQ2) and more about being a place for memories of your hero’s life spent adventuring."

Great as long as people have housing to roleplay in I don't for baubles myself.

"Guild Wars 2 will record all of your accomplishments in a storybook form"

Lotro do a nice version of this, but Warhammer is the best I have seen.

    "GW2’s free-to-play model"

GW is B2P (buy to play).

"I can't remember the last time I actually bothered reading quest text or anything about lore. When did I give in to the 'kill crap and level up' mentality? D: It all happened so fast! Save me "

Happens to us all mate, especially in groups, just say no to racing round like madmen, take your time and enjoy the game. :)

Lotro started of with one name uniquely yours. Later they introduced second names, which could be the same as someone else's. These can be optionally seen my other players. Hopefully GW2 does something like that.

GW gave you an option to craft up an entire background for your character which I hope is improved upon in GW2 for their active quest system. Like say you put in your bio that you were a trouble maker as a youth in a certain region of the game

If you go back to that region it'd be funny to see an NPC recognize you and go "Oh great here comes <Player> Now we're REALLY in trouble."

You give examples like Runes of Magic and EQ2 but you are forgetting that those don't apply lol. The example you look at for GW2 is GW1. They've already done this and it was a massive success.

Their business model has already proven to be profitable and non intrusive. This isn't a free to play, it's a buy to play. It's obvious you are new to MMO's so this seems like something you didn't know. The buy to play model of GW's is a lot different than your f2p model. Sure there is stuff in their online store, but it's fluff and non of it's needed at all. Not buying off of their online store does not put you at a disadvantage.

Edited to add: As others have stated pay to play games are including that online shop now days anyways. Anets shop isn't going to be any worse than those.

Don't forget... not only do we have GW one in place for story, but even if you didn't pick up GW1, there are THREE NOVELS that will be released to also give a ton of backstory as well. Then, on top of that, they are making it possible in GW1 to bring along more heroes at one time. This, in my opinion, translates that they aren't giving up on GW1, but realize the numbers are going to be so slim that they are giving people who want to an opportunity to go back and solo the entire game just to catch up in GW2. Genius.

This game will rock the industry to its foundations... its not Free to Play, but it has no sub. It brings the role of the player as the focus of the story back into place, they can test those dynamic events as long as they need to to get them perfect... dynamic events will make the gameworld feel so alive instead of so static...

I've said it before, but I expect a Q3 release in 2011. Right now, I'm playing through GW1 and reading the books as they come out. It... will... rock.

    Yeah aside from NWN 1

GW had the BEST storyline I had ever seen and played, I'm just sorry that instead of buying the rest of the GW Expansions I opted to sub to WoW for a while where they couldn't make a decision on the story at all

Ahhh ANet you've never failed me and now that I found some good friends and a guild to be a part of we're all planning on getting GW2 and having some Serious gaming fun

I hope GW2 will bring more PVP content. The storyline stuff sounds fine but this is a MMORPG not like GW1 wich most was instanced. So I really hope that they put care doing more than dungeons and solo quests. And I hope not to find "xp boost" or mount items, that would be very sad.

    Carpe Diem

Hopefully everyone has seen the manifesto movie on the Guild Wars 2 website.  If you haven't, then this comment will probably not make a lot of sense.

Two developers on the video are Colin Johanson and Ree Soesbee.

If what Colin Johanson says about "the grind" is correct then I am looking forward to a game trying to change that concept to something other than what it normally means.

If what Ree Soesbee says about the things I do having an effect on the game... THAT the game REMEMBERS... I'm going to be a very happy camper.

In addition, I took some time out of my busy day to google/yahoo Ree Soesbee and I was amazed at what I found: she's like a volcano with what appears to be more energy than most people ever use in their entire lifetime.  She's a gamer, a writer, a creator, and so much more.  I'm excited by the idea of her turning her energies to this game.  hahaha. Very excited.  Plus, she's a babe.
