DC Universe Online: Top DC Universe Hero Mentors

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

In The List this week, MMORPG.com's Bill Murphy points out the top DC Universe Online mentors. Mentors are characters that will interact with characters as they level and that will play an integral part in the story. There will be three mentor characters for good and three for evil included in the game. Bill has a few ideas about other DC heroes/villains that would be terrific mentors. See if you agree with Bill's choices or if you have other ideas. Let us know!

In light of Drew Wood’s recent trip out to SOE Austin, and just because I really like comics, I felt like writing this week’s list all about the mentors of DC Universe Online. So far it seems that both the villain and hero sides will have three mentors to choose from that alter the storyline for your character, the rewards, where you begin your life as a hero, and so on. For the heroes we have Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Each represents a different type of hero. Batman is for the tech-oriented, Superman is for the innately gifted or “meta”, and Wonder Woman is for those heroes who gain power from magic.

Green Lantern is definitely not an if and more of a when. I mean, would Marvel comics leave out Prof. X as a mentor?

Nice list, with only Etrigan as a possible exception in my book.

    Here's mine:

    5. Hawkman would be a nice Meta addition

    4. Dr. Fate for magic folks

    3. Flash (Barry), but I'm not sure how to group him. They may have to add another set for "scientific accident" folks. LOL

    2. Captain Marvel also for magic folks.

    1. Green Lantern. I've always been a Kyle fan, but only recently has he grown into a "mentor" type position in the DCU. I'd be tempted to go with Alan Scott here (also a personal favorite), but I think the majority would recognize Hal and he definitely deserves a spot.

There are so many good choices for mentors that I hope SOE keeps adding more with new areas for them to level up. A Coast city expansion with Hal mentoring. Central City with Flash. And of course, like you mentioned, J'onn J'onzz, the heart of the JLA for an outerspace expansion. And on and on and on..... You also can't discount the JSA for mentor choices like Wildcat and Mr. Terrific.

Can't wait to see your villian choices either.

    I love the Martian Manhunter!

You can't have any green lantern as a mentor.  There is only one lantern assigned to protect a particular sector of space at any one time.  If he/she dies, then a replacement is found.  You can't have 1000 green lanterns running around the surface of earth.

You could do a "hard light" tech hero but he wouldn't be part of the corps.

Actually, there are now 2 green lanterns in each sector. Earth has 4, Hal and John for sector watch and Kyle and Guy as Honor Lanterns on Oa.

Also, that is not how mentors work in game. They just guide the story; your "quest givers" if you will.

    Cat Woman

    Power Girl

Basically all the hot female characters.

    Nice list.

I will be totally befuddled if Deathstroke does NOT show up on the villians' list :-)

From a video I watched about his iconic armor he is indeed along the tech mentor line. It seems that when you pick a mentor there are minor "mentors" if you want to call them that along the way.

In the video it also showed robin's iconic armor being along the tech path under Batman as your mentor.

Hey Bill, can I add to this list?  Booster Gold and Blue Beetle anyone?

  • HathiHathi Member Posts: 236

Considering I just lost my post somehow. Here is my thoughts:

    Heroes:

    Aquaman

    Green Arrow

Mr. Terrific ( although he isn't confirmed in the game yet. :(

    Villians

    Gorilla Grodd

    Black Manta

Darkseid won't mentor anyone, but Granny Goodness just might.

Edit: Trickster seems to be the Flash counterpart

Actually, Earth has 5. The Guardians now acknowledge Alan Scott as a "proper" Green Lantern.

I read some where or heard them say in a video that the Green Lanterns are gonna be a expansion or update. They will have Yellow for Villians. Now if that comes out or not... not to sure.

Well I love the, always have.  However the rest,  rofl you got to be kidding me.  I feel so bad for the green latern, oh well his latest reincarnation on tv nowdays does not do him justice.

Why not batman, or superman as mentors?

  • StealthriderStealthrider Member Posts: 40

    Because they're both already mentors?

This is my personal wish list...

    Heroes:

    Swamp Thing

    Green Arrow

    Nightwing

    Villians:

    Lobo

    Poison Ivy

    Darkseid

I like how the author just takes a jab at another comic universe in general just to say I like Etrigan. I think I can try that. Screw Batman because Punisher is much more brutal than Batman has ever been. Or, screw Robin because every other hero from Marvel, Image and Dark Horse are cooler than he is.

    Deathstroke, anybody?

World of Warcraft is the original creation of God. Real Life is in fact a WoW clone.

Lobo isn't really a villain...he's just Lobo. Does whatever the hell he wants.

I would love a Booster Gold... for real.  Dude has corporate superheroics down to a science.

Additional junior mentors would be nice. Maybe form guilds based on them?

I like Supergirl or Rorschach- depending on my mood.

  • RalsarRalsar Member UncommonPosts: 305

Green Lantern as a mentor for sure.  Having him as a mentor doesn't dictate your character's powerset at all so it doesn't mess with canon.

I just watched Superman/Shazam!The Return of Black Adam are they going to be in it at any time?
