Last I read Beth was in a lawsuit with Interplay regarding the rights to develop a Fallout MMO. Have any of you guys heard any recent news as to whether this has been settled or if this project will move forward? The idea if Interplay developing a Fallout MMO is gaming nirvana for me.

Last I heard, Interplay walked away with the rights to the MMO, while Bethesda has the rights to all SRPGs. Timeline? The world may actually end before the Fallout MMO surfaces.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
That's encouraging news. I have heard the timeline stated for late 2012 and they had it playable in January of 2009. Honestly I couldn't care less When it comes out (Well, as long as it's not ten years away.) as long as IT DOES COME OUT and is a solid prduct containg all the elements that made falout 1/2 what they were.
Ah, but there in lies the conundrum. Not only for this MMO but all the others we wait so eagerly for... Will the developers make good on their promises and deliver a solid enjoyable product.
But I'm with you in terms of hoping it comes out soon and is fun. I know my arse will be in front of my computer playin' this until the wee hours of the morning. Keeping my fingers crossed!
I say no chance and here's why.
If Bethesda was too lazy to make a new engine, or even upgrade the engine from Fallout 3 to Fallout:NV they would also be wayyy too lazy to develop an mmo. Heck, they can't even be bothered to fix their weird looking character models and they reused most of the textures from the old game. It wouldn't have been any different if NV was a Fallout 3 expansion.
Sorry, but Bethesda doesn't quite have the grits to pull off an MMO.
Was some info posted on rock paper shotgun a little while back:

Bethesda isn't developing it. Interplay (The punblisher of Fallout 1/2/tTactics) is. Bethesda is (or was) in a lawsuit with Interplay Regarding the use of the Fallout universe. Just to fill you in. I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything.
That would be exactly why besh isnt doing the mmo? Silly Zero Chance

Last I heard, the suit was still pending, but Interplay seems confident enough in their chances to continue working.
It would be interesting if they did it as a turn based MMO, ala Wizard 101. Maybe not GOOD, but certainly interesting, and in tune with the original series.
Well I found an article that at least explains what the game will be like. (VINTAGE FALLOUT FTW!!!) Read it. it's pretty short. it was posted on 10/22

Oh, DRandom: I remember reading that. It completley escaped me
Apparently Fallout online will be a humorous game and will be about reconstructing the world and not about combat. Lawsuits are still pending but Bethseda where refused an initial injunction so Interplay can still develop the game until the case is fully settled but the judge probably ruled that because of the terms of the original contract which where fairly complicated and includes lots of stipulations that required Interplay to begin development within a certain time frame and having certain amounts of funding to dedicate to the development and then be able to release the game within four years of the project beginning.
So with the original contract terms Interplay must have $30m USD and get the game released some time next year but for now they can continue working on the game but its not clear whether the recent announcements are down to any kind of settlement with Bethseda or if they are attempting to get something, or even anything released at all so they don't breach the terms of the original contract and get it snatched away.
Given the way they have described the game in interviews unfortunately I think its the latter rather than the former, but whatever happens it looks like Bethseda will take 10-15% of all retail sales and subscription fees.

NV was created by Obsidian Entertainment not by Bethesda, that company actually has a lot of former FO1 and FO2 devs. Also Bethesda does not even own the right for an MMO, this is still in the hands of Interplay, who I believe hired (or subcontract or however it is called in the gaming world) masthead studio's, who is also working on Earthrise right now.
Earthrise
Interplay do not own the rights at all, they have a contract that allows them to develop the game within the terms that Bethseda stipulated and Bethseda have taken Interplay to court claiming they have breached that contract.
Unless Interplay can prove they have fulfilled the contract any development rights are forfeit, so unless they can prove that they have/had $30m USD and serious development began mid April 2009 with the game ready for release April 2013 they cannot develop the game.
I am just speculating but I think Interplay will shove any old pile of crap out of the door in order to keep to the contract and I don't think it bodes well for any potential quality in the game.
