According to a report from the East Valley (AZ) Tribune, property control for Stargate Worlds and Stargate Resistance has been returned to developer Cheyenne Mountain. Sadly, time has probably run out for Cheyenne Mountain to be able to get Stargate Worlds out the door. MGM has terminated the license originally issued in 2006 that granted Cheyenne Mountain the use of the intellectual property from the TV shows.
Last week Judge Edward Burke approved the return of assets to Cheyenne Mountain. He also approved a new receiver for the company, which is under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, placing the restructuring in the hands of Phoenix’s MCA Financial Group, according to a court document. The substitution is part of a settlement that also approves debt payments and loans to fund continued operations.
The agreement settles a multimillion-dollar fraud complaint brought by Cheyenne Mountain investors against Dark Comet Games and Fresh Start Studios, which were formed by former employees to maintain and expand Stargate Resistance, a third-person shooter released in February. To date, it’s the only product the company has managed to release, and it was rushed to market just days before the company sought court protection from its creditors.

Someone's last to the party
I don't understand why, whoever owns "Stargate", is allowing their IP to be treated like this.
I'm not really a big fan of anything but the first movie, but still, it has a decent fanbase... doesn't it?
We were discussing this a bit earlier (though admittedly, thread went a bit off-topic) http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/297274
Someone in that thread pointed out that SG:W was supposed to coincide with the SG:U series coming out. So, if true, it would make sense up until that deadline was missed. Once it was missed, it could have been a matter of inertia when considering the amount invested and so on...all just speculation though I suppose.

Wow. So I guess thats that.
What is wrong with these companies that they keep contracting with small itty bitty companies to make these HUGE titles? They screw it up each and every time.
When will this Soap opera ends?
"you are like the world revenge on sarcasm, you know that?"
One of those great lines from The Secret World
Well from the looks of that articale looks like they wil publish the shooter but not the mmo since MGM pulled the license. I don't blame MGM from doing so because of how things transpired since the begining with all the scams that came out.
Im going to play this game but does it have any effect on me?
I was the one that stated SG:W and SG:U were to compliment one another
SG:R is out it's been out Go buy it and play it if you like lol
SG:W is dead and likely never ever to see the light of day.
I'm pretty sure they were supposed to be released around the same time because Eli was playing Stargate Worlds in the first episode.
Thsy just can't let this thing die. Someone please put the nail in the coffin.
I loved the original series followed all ten seasons of it. Also the Atlantis one I followed that one too. Have not watched the universe one yet though.
Well if syfy would quit screwing around and put sgu on friday night, maybee I could watch it, or set the vcr to record it on the second showing, the way it is now there is something oposite it, and the wife gets her way.
I guess SGW is dead as a dead horse, sgr I hated due to all the spawn camping and cheating. It is just like team fortrest game, find a good spot and hang out and gank folks.
I have no hope for eaither game being any good.
they need to stop screwing around and put some excitement in the show rather than melodrama every five seconds.
SG:W and SG:U were most definately not supposed to correspond to each other. Back in the closed beta of SG:W they stated that it took place in the SG:SG1 timeline. All of the characters from that time period were in it and it was before Atlantis.
It was pretty lame then and made no sense, so the fact that it would still come out like that would make even less sense.
I guess this is where I was getting stuck. I mean SG:U, while I enjoy it, is not MMO material. You have a limited crew that, with the exception of the Incursion episodes, does nothing but decrease. Didn't sound very sustainable.
Now, as far as SG:U being a vehicle for product placement (i.e. the game Eli was playing in the first episode), sure I can understand that part. I thought there was a thread at the time the episode aired that stated the game he was playing was not related to SG:W, but that might just be poor memory on my part.
edit: ok, i might have been mistaken. http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/254427 is the thread I was thinking about and, at least on skimming, it seems to confirm that the game displayed in the show was supposed to be SGW.

Your not missing anything. Stargate Universe SUCKS compared to SG-1. Feels more like a daytime soap. If this is the new direction SG is going, count me out. I never could see the appeal of Battlestar Galactica either...
I played the beta for quite a while before it tanked. Sorry, but we weren't missing anything by it not coming out.
yep.I watched the first 6 episodes. It felt more like a sci fi drama with a worm hole teleporter on a ship than part of the SG universe. and now that you mention it lol , it did kinda have that BSG feel to it more than a SG feel.
Stargate Atlantis still had plenty of story left in it for at least 2 or 3 more seasons. It was a shame to see it canceled needlessly while it was at its peak in terms of character development and story development.
SG1 could have ended perfectly right after season 8, but I'm happy with the way season 9 and 10 turned out. The series finale has stuck with me to this day.
I haven't watched Stargate Universe yet but I heard it sucks. I'll still be giving it a fair shot though.
As for the mmo, I really just can't think of a way in which it would be fun. In my opinion, the IP just isn't suited for MMORPG type gameplay.
That said, I'd fucking love to walk through a stargate one day, be it a real one or a virtual one.
totally agree. SG-U sucks bigtime compared to the other 2 shows.
Yeah I dont understand what moron decided that after over 12 year of successful TV shows(Stargate and Atlantis) that making a drama out of it was a good idea. Next thing they will have is emo vampires. Everytihng that made the first 2 shows successful isnt in the third series...its really mindboggling.
so...the odds of ANYONE ever making a stargate game again are pretty low right?
Also, I think that if SG:U is to be successful, they need to set a better goal for the show. SG:1 had defend earth from Goa'uld, acquire new tech from friendly alien races to defend earth, oh...and kill daniel as much as possible. SG:A defend atlantis from wraith, become friends with locals, explore, find more ZPMs and other ancient tech. SG:U is basically sit on a ship...survive...the only one actually trying to do anything is Rush, and his motivations aren't exactly clear (I mean, are they trying to get home or what? I CAN'T TELL!).
At this point there is really no point in making another Stargate game until the writers figure out the direction they want the macro-lore of the stargate universe (not the show) is exactly. /end rant
I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.
IMO this game was never going to happen, one or two guys had planned to leech some investors of their money and let it fold, they never intended to have a game finished.
I also feel that this court decision was probably handed down because nobody showed up to fight it,so they just handed it over with some legal mumbo jumbo.
I also beleive there is a lot of crookedness going on in the gaming industry ,just as there is in real life.EA sued for ripping their employees off for several years of wages.Hasbro sued for trying to start an illegal manipulation of prices with store owners/franchises,Blizzard was caught fixing their accounting books,NCSOFT cancels a game to eliminate having to pay 20+ million to Lord British and his brother,it goes on and on,i am sure there is a lot more bs going on that we don't see or that has yet to be caught. This game was never going to happen.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I gotta be one of the few people here who actually enjoys SG:U. :P
Sure it's dramatic, but it's also a nice change from the previous series' (not that there was any problem with them). I can understand not liking it, but saying it sucks is pretty harsh. So far, I think that, with the exception of a few episodes, the writing and character development has been pretty enjoyable. Just a different opinion though.

If you think that's what happend with TR you weren't a close follower
After British's space walk his head stayed up there and made some neglectful decisions.
Needless to say the game while good was devoid of major promised content the Battlesuits were a promised yet never delivered item.
