What does have an effect on FF XIV would be the appaling sales, where the game only sold about 630,000 units worldwide, in September. And keep in mind Final Fantasy is a huge IP and recently we've seen big PC only titles like Civ 5 and Starcraft 2 selling millions of units during their respective launch week. Even if FF XIV has reached the 1 million mark by now or will reach it soon, there's no denying that the majority of players are so dissatisfied with the game that they are no longer playing it during their free trial.

Ehm, since when are MMORPG sales being compared to singleplayer game sales? WAR and AoC had sales numbers from 700k to 1 million at their launch, and iirc those were the highest numbers up till then (besides WoW maybe, don't know those initial launch sales numbers). And that's just the PC sales, the PS3 launch numbers will still follow.

For MMORPG's the sub numbers are important, that's where I think FFXIV will suffer greatly, especially with the storm of upcoming MMORPG titles that approaches next year.

Replace SE in the dev's comments with Blizzard, Funcom ,Mythic, etc.... and these same people would be ripping them to shreds. But when its their precious SE, its okay and he "didn't really mean that".

The thread discussion itself aside - seems just another game bashing thread like I've seen them enough in the WoW, AoC and SWTOR forumsections here - but regarding this argument, this is all just a matter of viewpoint: most people are more lenient towards the game they enjoy to play. And sure, the hater of some MMORPG's is often the fanboi of his own favorite MMO game. But that doesn't make the critic more right or the fan blind.

My recurring option has been turned off. Sometime next year, when SE feels like it has finished the fixing the game they can send me an email offering some free play time (preferably the month that I paid for) and I will give it another go. Until then Taus and the rest can pay to keep the lights on.

As for comparing this game unfinished state at release to the unfinished state of any mmo, that is a bit disingenuous. All mmo continue to be updated and expanded so, sure, any mmo could be said to be incomplete. They are never complete until the day the close up shop. But most mmos have something to offer on release day. Most have some kind of a point. That is, it is acceptable as a game in its release day state. FFXIV is the only game I have ever played on release day or otherwise that seemed to entirely lack for a point. FFXIV is lacking something, something that makes a game, a game and not just a framework for a virtual world. And no, I am not talking about quests. I have played plenty of very good, very fun sandbox games.

    All die, so die well.

If I sold a big pile of poo (beta) and just redecorated it to look like a nice tasty cake (release) and said : "this is a cake, not the best one but still a cake really", others would have a bite and say "EWW wtf is this, this is poo !" while you happily just eat it whole and ask for more because I said it was a cake and you like cakes don't you?

Btw, your avatar fits you really well, those glasses are awsome, does it make your character in FFXIV shoots hearts at the baddies?

       Pretty much.

The rebirth of another failure. Lets be honest some people may buy it , but its not going to be a good game (better for sure) but still bad.

That would solve the problem and they can still post their opinions and speculations but not disrupt the real players.

In fact i will suggest this to the mods and get this mess cleaned up once and for all and urge you to do the same.

Every game on MMORPG has it's haters.  Should they make a "special" forum for them as well?  People who are interested in playing a game want to know the negatives as well as the positives.  Splitting this forum, to me, is ridiculous.  If they do it for this one, might as well do it for all of the games listed on MMORPG.

The action that Taus is pushing for is for the negative aspects/opinions of FFXIV to be swept away and hidden from those who might be looking for a new MMO to play.  If you only see positive things, the game must be great.  A deceptive method at best.  If you want to only read happy shiny things about a specific game, then go to a fansite that worships the ground that SE walks on.  If you want to be able to see both the good and bad aspects of this game then leave the forums here at MMORPG.com the way they are.

There would be more positive thread here if more people had positive things to say about the game.  And that alone speaks volumes.

I agree.  A one sided conversation doesn't do anyone any good.  If people want to go talk about the game without dealing with game issues they make forums specifically for that.  They have been quoted here several times usually accompanied by an insult towards the MMORPG site in general  xD

    Mike,

i think it is pretty clear that the original title of the thread was sensationalist, immature and a lie. Thats why it is now changed to the reality.

I think we both can also agree that he never said it's a beta. Thats just a fact. You can spin this any way you want and thats fine. He still did not say it.

FICTION: "Wada says FF14 is a Beta test for the PS3 release in March 2011"

    FACT: (see his speech)

Since we now have established what fact and fiction is, let's move on and enjoy the game, or in your case any game you currently play.

If you feel uncomfortable with me pointing this out, then i am sorry that i have offended you. I did not mean to, honestly.

What an incredible load of rubbish.

    Here's two lines:

    -----------

    -----------

    Read between them.

Of course Wada didn't come out and specifically state that PC users are playing a soon-to-be payed beta. He was talking to shareholders. With the negativity and failures the game has experienced so far, do  you really think that is something he would say outright to investors? You're being incredibly naive.

The company has admitted its faults and failures. This plug your ears, stomp your feet, and shout LALALALA business is getting old. Do you lack the ability to think critically about a situation? I mean, really -- I want XIV to be a great game that I can play for half a decade like I did with XI, but it's become painfully obvious that the PC market is playing a "beta" version of the game right now.

Fact is they are hoping they can get all this ironed out for the PS3 launch because thats their last hope, so yes in a sense the PC version is now being treated as a beta because they can not afford for the PS3 launch to flop as bad as the PC one has.

    Before they made everything Pretty

and decided to ignore the bad fighting mechanics which let me assure you are nowhere near the simplified control of their console games even though it dang SHOULD be

the game was already ripe with problems such as the ludicrous patching system that MAXED on super internet connections at 56k sometimes getting a 5 min. peak of 90k

And you could use BitTorrent or uTorrent and download it at 500x that speed.

It shouldn't have launched when it did, it was WAY too soon.

Why you bother to talk sense to Taos? He proved it over and over that reality is one thing and his one-sided opinion is another. Let him BS all he wants, I don't give a damn what his opinion/argument is anymore.
