What is really sad is that Doctors can no longer craft and are now considered combat class.  I was a master doc/ master architect.  ANd I have a cr (combat rating) of 54..  Yet I have no certifications for anything other than cdef weapons.  Oh and btw..  That equates to  FUN..  (from SOE standards)  According to them I am having a hell of a time.. lol  If I had wanted to be in combat as a doc doesnt it stand to reason that I would have been a combat medic..  ?????  But now in order to craft loke I used I have to become a combat medic..  ????  Can someone pass me a logic pill please??  Cause I just dont understand this.  But hey ..  Who cares its a upgrade..  and its fun, fun, fun..

Morock, you bring up some great points. I am an old software developer myself, and it amazes me that this project was ever implemented. I can't believe that they miscalculated how much players would be dying. Dying does NOT equate with fun. So what if we were buffed and didn't die often? It is a game and I would much rather be a hero than a Smoe.

I'm curious, have you cancelled your account? I would pay $100 to find out how many people have cancelled. Unfortunately, that is THE way to take action. Threatening to cancel on message boards is useless. Only officially cancelling stands any chance of success. I see that Sony has three options:

    (1) Persist with the combat upgrade and lose the thousands of players that are leaving. This is based on the hope that when the movie comes out that we will all be replaced.

    (2) Revert to the old system and apologize.

    (3) Divide servers in half; offer half as "REALISM" servers (CU equipped) and the other half as "NON-REALISM" servers (no CU). (I use the word realism loosely)

I doubt #2 will happen. From the outside, number 3 makes the most financial sense to me, although having to maintain two systems may put undue strain on the engineers.

Anyways, it is really too bad this happened. I am desperately looking for a MMORPG replacement. I purchased Guild Wars. And while it is fun, it lacks a lot of the elements I loved about SWG.

    Saw.

    Drsaw,

I actually cancelled all 3 of my accounts, and 4 of my cousins cancelled theirs as well totalling 11 accounts in all.  I have played for almost 3 years and have many many friends in the game..  I have over 350 people in my friends list..  I have recieved over 200 emails of Im sorry to go but I refuse to pay for this... etc.. etc.. etc..  ANd I have to say that I agree with them all.  I refuse to test a game for SOE.   THis game should NEVER have gone to live servers in its current state.  It unbelievable that anyone can honestly say that this was ready for deployment.  In my opinion though what makes this really bad is that SOE continues to tell us that its a great success and youll love the new design.  WHen it should be in testing and THEY should be asking what do YOU(our paying customers) think of our new design to the gameplay.  Excuse me for asking but what VP's job is on the line for this piece of work.  I know the game need tweeking but we didnt ask for a new game when we said we wanted professions fixed a year ago.  lol  I just cant believe that there are people who are beta testing this game on live servers..  Its rediculous.  Seriously rediculous..  ANd its saddening as well, because I really loved this game.  My wife and I play each week together..  Thats gonna change, and now Ive got to decide what to play until the Star Trek online is released..

You are correct though, subscription loss will turn their heads.  I dont know if they will recoup any of the players they are losing though even if they were to rollback the server.  Their customer service is just brutal.  I had a friend who logged in his jedi.  He was outside because he lost power while playing and couldnt log back in to get to a safe spot.  THe next time he logged in was after the upgrade.  When he got in game he was told he couldnt move and had to respec..  WHile he was respecing his jedi a BH shows up and tears him up.. Of he cant move because its more important for us to be naked and frozen until we drop our skills.  Needless to say he dies..  Loses 200k xp..  Sends a ticket explaining that he died as a result of the respec freezing him as was told "We are sorry for your lose but will not being to restore the xp lost due the the action of in game combat."  UNBELIEVABLE!!!

And I agree with your points as well..  Number 2 i dont think will ever happen..  Number 3 is the best bet but given SOE's track record number 1 is where my moneys at.. lol

I was think of getting guildwars...  Is it worth the purchase..  Im also looking at Dark Ages of camelot..  If anyone has any suggestion as to what to play next please fell free to respond..

Learnt to play it during the beta period - found it rather inane and boring and quit before it went live.

I can understand the reasons behind the changes, but just don't agree with any of them. As it is though, they seem to steathly rolling back some of the more stupider changes (like the lightshow that erupted whenever you hopped on or off a vehicle).

But aside from the cool down and warm up periods, it's still just a mashing of function keys - ableit with the mashing not happening a frequently. For most players though, its a case of "oh look, a creature 2 levels higher than me has just db'd me, and I didn't even realise I was in combat as I had the sound turned down and was listening to music instead".

And that's if you are fortunate enough to have combat skills. If you have no combat skills, get used to the inside of the local cloning station ::::05::

More likely get used to be in the company of friends.

Weekend actually was FUN ... and with record numbers of guild people online. Despite many also trying out Guild Wars during the weekend.

It helps that you can fool around with your template (fully or partially, depending on your per-Cu profession) without needing to grind.

    have fun
