Why do facebook app games suck so much?

From what I've seen, the facebook app games are all incredibly lame. Yet it seems that there is really nothing in the process of creating a facebook app that limits games all that much. It looks like anything you can do in any browser based game, you can do as a facebook app. So why are so many of them (and maybe all of them) so lame?

    The question is false.

    Your question really is...

Why do i personally view Facebook apps as lame?

I don't think we can answer that for you.

Zynga's net worth would speak to the shear amount of people that disagree with you.

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

Because you play games that have story and depth, but also require lots of time. Most Farmvilleers or Mafia players I know do it on their iPhone or laptop and generally don't engage in other forms of gaming.

i agree with terroni. i like many facebook games and so does most my family. sounds like you fit into the group that dont like them. faceook is not console and mmo type games. it is flash and browser game wide variety people can play and learn within minutes.

A question is neither true nor false. I did not in fact wish to ask why  I think facebook app games are lame. I know why I think so. I assumed others agreed with me and wanted to know if anyone else had an opinion on the reason.

I'll rephrase it this way. Do you think facebook app games suck and why or why not?

As for Zynga's financials, I'm well aware of that. That's what's drawn my attention to this matter. Seems like writing a facebook app game might not be all that hard. I'm considering competing with Mark Pincus and his Zynga empire.

i guess the next question is why are minesweeper and solitaire so lame?!?

    probably because they are free.

    Eredan

That TCG is probably one of the best Online TCGs I've ever played, and it's on Facebook. It beats the ever living crap out of Urban Rivals. I'm a TCG freak, so I've pretty much played them all. I'm not a fan of Magic, surprisingly and Warstorm is just a joke.

I'm actually playing it right now on another tab. :) Level 9 almost level 10.

The above is a referral link, but I only get something if you spend money. If you don't want to click it, find Eredan on Facebook.

It's by some French company, not Zynga. Btw. 100% Professional quality, but still in fairly early release. I haven't ran into any bugs, I just don't think their collection is quite at the point they want it to be.

That's an interesting comparison. I don't know why minesweeper and solitaire are so lame, but I do know why they are so widely played despite being so lame. It's because they are included as part of microsoft windows operating systems. Their widespread availability, even on computers that people use at the office where they haven't loaded any other games is why people play them so much.

I'm thinking maybe you've shown me the way to the answer I was seeking. Facebook app games may be popular despite being relatively unsophisticated because they are readily available to all facebook users and are in various ways promoted to facebook users.

Thank you for your comment. That was actually helpful.

    True words.

"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true — you know it, and they know it." —Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007

    WTF? No subscription fee?

20% off action points on Mafia Wars today only!

35% off farmville tools and other misc items until tommorow only! limited offer!

You keep being pestered to buy buy buy buy buy buy buy buy buy buy all these retarded little things for the game apps that you really don't need. Micro transactions are not a new thing in games but bloody hell do the devs of facebook games cram them full of adverts and special offers to the point where its just lame.

I use facebook, I stay the hell away from the games.

Correct me if  i am wrong, doesnt the product reflect what the consumer wants otherwise it wouldnt sell or be played. So lame shallow, easy button games requiring no time or skill to play only reflects the consumer that plays them. My guess is Casual Gamers as the consumer, therefore thats why those "games", i use the term loosely, SUCK.

face book games games are not lame for their target audience....which is casual gamers, mostly woman, 30 and up. I think world of warcraft is a stupid pointless boring game but 12 million people would heartily disagree

You know whats really scary about good face book apps? They make lots of money with misicule development cost compared to AAA titles....

Yes, people play cow clicker and buy clicks and bonus cows for real cash, in a game that has no point besides clicking a timer every 6 hours.

Also, all the people playing facebook games, all the scores and statistics, it all gets data-mined which can be sold to marketing and advertisers for top dollar. Knowledge is power, and power = wealth.
