I Iike the idea of playing FFXIV as I am a FF fan however, I only get 1 to 2 hours a day to play. Do you think I would be able to get anywhere within a decent timeframe playing that casual?
I don't like the idea of applying the "getting anywhere" statement to any of these games because someone is always going to be ahead of you and you will always be ahead of someone else.
I mean, where is it you want to go? I think people have inflicted this "end game" mentality on themselves when it seems that most end games are just that: "the end of the game".
I play it casually and I'm having a blast. I'm not trying to get anywhere or accomplish anything. Just have some fun.
So if you are asking if you can enjoy your self on 1 or 2 hours per day then depending on what you enjoy, "possibly".
If you are going to try to keep up with the joneses then "no".

Early on, casual works. If you stick with casual you will be able to use anima to transport to camps to do leves (quests). Most leves under level 20 will only take about 10 minutes to complete and you get 8 every 36 hours.
Finding a group to run the leves with you might hinder your casual experience though.

You must absolutely not have any inkling of an idea of making progress though.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
You can play any games casually, depends on your goals.
This game was advertised as casual friendly but in all honesty its total opposite, fatigue system isn't as effective as it was meant to be, players with more time will simply be way ahead of you not just in their main job level but also in other jobs and economy wise which make them far better than you.
So if your goal is to enjoy what the game has to offer at your pace without worrying about catching up to the playerbase, any game will do just fine including FFXIV, otherwise Im afraid you will only get frustration as you are simply not going to be effective seeing that you probably only have time to level 1 job and not much time to make much money.

This is so true. You have to enjoy the journey and feel like it is "worth it" to feel satisfied in any game regardless of genre.

Your experience will be much better if you find a good linkshell to make the most out of the couple hours a day you have to play. Soloing is not a lot of fun, and it can be difficult to find pugs.
I think threads like these would be better served if the OP would define what amount of progress they would like to achieve in what span of time.
Or possibly any issues they are trying to avoid like leveling content getting depopulated.
Most of this stuff is very subjective. Personally many RPGs are not all that intersting to me until I get high in skill points/levels to get a solid set of abilities so slow progress bugs me more than someone who simply wants to explore.

With the 36h leves and guardians favour you can level up until 20 with ease. 20+ you might want to join a LS and find a static or people to group with for those 1-2 hours.
You could still do leves but it will take you a few days to level up solo. 500 SP per mob with about 8-10 mobs per leve thats a max of 36k. Half that since you wont max the SP.
20 to 21 is 20k exp.
It's posible but at some point 30+ grouping might be alot more effective.
Crafting is easier doing it just with leves. 8 leves is plenty for 1-2 hours.

You can definitely play it casual. I know I do. But your progression will be slow.
