"The Sansha's Nation is seriously pissed and doesn't care about politics; trust us, you would be quite mad as well if you were stuck living with giant spikes on your head ‘n' shoulders." So starts the latest blog at the EVE Online site from CCP Ytterbium. In the blog, details about precisely what incursions are and how players are affected by them are detailed. Incursions are detailed from system wide effects to how to counter the Sansha.
Participation in incursions grants rewards, of course. Completing sites will secure ISK and CONCORD loyalty points, the latter actually paid out only when an incursion has been successfully repelled by the destruction of its final boss (thus making it particularly important). CONCORD only pays for a job that's finished, private.
Please also note that, - besides the fact that attempting to solo an incursion is a very, very bad idea - the rewards themselves are designed for groups and based on site objectives. The NPCs themselves have no bounty, no loot, and very little salvage as we wanted players to focus on the actual encounters.

Oh yeah... this will do wonders for most of the player base... after all EVERYONE wants to fight better than Sleeper NPCs with nerfed ships and tech with a bunch of strangers that they don't know or else they won't be able to play normal EVE¡
For PVP and Wormhole PVE players this is fine, but for the majority of the rest of the players this means either leave the system, jump clone out, or play an alt and hope the few who take part don't take forever to kick the Sansha Out.
BestSigEver :P
Bingo. CCP is STILL trying to drag people who don't want to be part of a huge PvP corp into.... huge PvP corps. Or, at least, the PvP areas where they can be ganked.
Why? I don't know. PvP in Eve isn't fun unless you're on the side with the bigger numbers. (and even then, its still "lame".)
How hard is it to join a high sec Pve corp and fleet up for these things? Stop playing Eve solo...
Edit: umm... You can do these in high sec, The low sec only boss drop gives a BP for a ship you can't use in high sec (if i read that right) You will still beable to farm them in empire and buy stuff with whatever reward currency it gives.

not sure i like the penalty effects on a system with an incursion. Also not sure if i like this idea much as long as the incursions dont happen too often, gonna wait and see if this is a winner.

Seems like a wasted effort to me.
I predict a lot of chaos in the beginning resulting in some fun and many tears as people of all kinds rush to this new content in an attempt to tackle it and profit. Watching the forums as it unfolds will be entertaining.
In the end though, I have a bad feeling that this is going to be content reserved for large corps, especially PvP corps. For everybody else, it'll just be a nuisance when an incursion happens in one of their favorite systems. Low- and null-sec will obviously be for PvP corps only and although people can in theory work together as both individuals and small corps in hi-sec, you can bet that there will be a lot of people doing their utmost in order to figure out ways to grief the system to hell and back, sucking all the fun out of it. Oh, and let's not forget that this will be a great way for hi-sec based PvP griefer corps to figure out which PvE corp to wardec next.
As a result of this, I fear this is just going to be another feature abandoned by the masses and left to rot as CCP turns their attention to a new and shiny feature. The carebears will just continue grinding whatever they are grinding now and use their ISK to buy the incursion faction rewards they desire from the large corps that have what it takes to safely grind incursions. If some people think this is going to unite the common EVE playerbase in an epic struggle to repel the evil invaders, they're being delusional.

Looks good to me, but then it is far too early to make judgements on how it will play out in the long term. Given that this is not going to be the last ever update by CCP I can't see the problem with them adding group orientated content, no doubt it will get exploited in someway at first but that will be ironed out or avoided.
That people are complaining about a penalty system (which hasn't been added ig yet so they have no real idea of the severity of it in real terms) due to random incursions seems a tad strange given the space simulator/sandbox aspect of the game. People seem to be under the assumption that life for the carebears as we know it is over, alas my crystal ball seems to have broken so I wont make such a claim.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
I dont know what people expected?
Think CCP is going to add in some type of progressive raid game thats in a nice safe instance so you could completely avoid the asshats?
Think again!
From reading the feature its already timid enough, If you have that much of a problem with the griefer playerbase then i suggest not playing EVE.

More sand in the sandbox... not really sure what there is to complain about. As always, if you choose not to use the tools in the sandbox, its your choice.
I heard the same whining and bitching about wormholes, and yet it still remains an outstanding addition to the game for the people that choose to utilize it.
CCP could have gone completely evil with this mechanic.
They could of allowed all Npcs to drop loot...
OMG it would be a loot thief/baiters paradise...

There will always be people whining and bitching whenever a new feature is introduced, so you can't use that as a yardstick to measure whether a feature will be a success or not in the long run. I could be right... or wrong... who cares? I'm merely expressing my lack of faith based on previous experience and using that to draw conclusions. Personally, I hope I'm wrong in the end.
As for the wormholes, there's a huge difference between the two. A person or small corp can successfully live there and do the content because you're hard to spot in the first place. Local doesn't give you away and wormholes move around, closing and opening up new systems. It makes it perfect for small scale guerilla operations. Incursions on the other hand, will place a giant shining beacon on the map saying "here be nice juicy targets and lots of action". It's like comparing gang warfare with fleet fights. How bad this is going to be depends of course on the duration and number of concurrent incursions going on. Plentiful and short will make it more accessible. Few and drawn out will pretty much make it a big corp thing only since you're going to need a lot of backup to keep the operation safe.
It all boils down to how well impemented and balanced it is. Incursion has potential to be great, but there's so much that could go wrong, which is why I'm lacking in faith. CCP has a track record of leaving things half baked and turning their attention to something new. Sometimes I even forget that there's this thing called faction warfare... but at least I hear they're fixing rockets and making PI a bit less tedious, although still a far cry from all the golden promises made at the last fanfest. More sand in the sandbox is great, but sometimes you gotta stop and clean out the dirt before adding more. That's all I'm saying.
But... *shrug*... we shall see.

Translated? Hardly. Here's a better one: It's a game that rewards group play - get over it.
Solo players - need to group up with others; no surprise.
Small corps - need to band together to combat a threat that's bigger than "just a small corp," obviously; no surprise.
Carebears - need to step up or shut up. EVE is not a happy-shiny have-some-candy game.
Hi-Sec players - are in no way restricted from getting involved; they'll just need to group up to do it, if they're small-scale.
Casual Mission Runners - will keep on running casual missions and just avoid hotspot areas (as always) and are in no way restricted from getting involved if they really want to; they'll just need to group up to do it (seeing a running theme, here, yet?)
Miners - will keep on mining and avoiding hotspot areas (as always).
Couriers - will keep on couriering and avoiding hotspot areas (as always).
So, really... what's the big deal? If you don't want to get involved, don't get involved. Sancha are big-league. If you're not big-league, either band together or stay the hell outta the way. It's a nasty big universe and it's the way it works. Don't like it? Tough shit and welcome to EVE.
Seriously. Stop trying to play a group-oriented game solo and maybe you'll start having more fun?
I think it's great that CCP is trying to give their subscribes an alterantive and if the event is successful then others will be implemented.
Actually, I like it. I'm a carebear, but these will add interest. if you play EVE for a bit as a carebear, you pretty much have getting the heck out of the way to a pretty decent level.
I have NEVER seen an expansion for any MMO that everyone liked. EVER. Personally, I see merits to both sides of the arguements and discussions going on in the EVE forums about this, and I do have reservations about some points while I like other aspects of it. In the long run, I'll either adapt and keep playing or just move on as I've done so often in the past. In all likelihood, I'll adapt and stay because I like EVE and I like the plans for the future of the game. Plain and simple.
On a side note here - I am so friggin tired of the *ssholes who think a solo player should get out of an MMO (in this case EVE) because they play in groups so everyone else should too. Go suck an egg. I play solo 95% of the time and I enjoy myself immensely. On top of that, I am usually quite adept at playing the game and at adapting to play sections meant to be played by groups. Perhaps you don't like solo players because we threaten your sense of superiority in numbers, or perhaps you just haven't been able to figure out how to play solo effectively yourself. When I do group up, I do so because I want to and I am selective as to whom I do group with. I don't like being forced into it any more than you want to be forced to play alone. Rarely do I bitch about content that is meant for group play nor do I come down on players who simply must have group play to be happy, yet in every discussion, someone comes up with this bull about 'if you play solo, why play an MMO at all. Go play a single-player game and get out of MY group game.' I've got news for you jerkwads, I have just as much right to be here as you and am probably a better player to-boot, so get over yourselves and get the hell out of my way.
