Grouping Guide (from actual player)

MuruganMurugan Member Posts: 1,494

The following is information from an actual player:

(disclaimer: I don't care what you think about FFXIV, I hate your MMO too and think less of you for playing it)

Since this board is 30% speculators, 10% "newbies", and 60% trolls I thought I'd share some actual information from someone who has played since beta.  I'm not even close to being the highest ranked individual and I don't know everything there is to know about the game.  Compared to most that visit this forum however I'm a practical encyclopedia of all things FFXIV.

I see a lot of people claiming that you kill Dodo's, marmots, and sheep from 1-50 in this game.  While I think most of these people are simply trolling a game they do not play it might also be possible that they are simply "not in the know".  If you solo, I hate you and don't care about you, if you are however interested in grouping you might find the following information useful.

r1-15 (This is an MMO you should solo these, it doesn't take but a day to do it

r15-20- Cellar Puks camp north of Aetheryte @Nanawa Mines (camp supports 2-3 parties of 2-6 people

r15-20- Giant Crabs West of Skull Valley  (two camps each supports one party of 2-6 people)

r18-21- Island Crabs South or North of Cedarwood (supports two parties 2-6 people)

r18-22- Hippogryph by bridge in Coerthas Central Lowlands (supports one party 2-6 people)

r18-23- Puks at Mun-toy Cellars (supports one party 2-6 people)

r20-23- Pteroc Matron along zone wall, SW of Camp Dragonhead (supports one party 2-6 people)

r21-27- Hippocerf in area around Ishgard (supports two parties 3-10 people)

r21-27- Island Crabs in Cassiopea Hollow (supports 2 parties of 6-15 people)

r22-28- Black Efts in The Tam-Tara Deepcroft Top Floor (supports 2 parties 6-15 people)

r23-28- Island Crabs north of Bearded Knoll on beach (supports one party 6-15 people)

r23-28- Antlings in Copperbell mines (basement 2 different rooms, supports 2-3 parties of 4-10 people)

r24-27- Yarzon in Mistbeard Cove (roaming camp supports 2 parties, can also kill Flying Eyes for wings)

r27-32- Blind Efts in Mistbeard Cove (two camps one room just NE of Aetheryte, another in top upper righthand corner of map)

r32-37- Black Efts by Treespeak (one camp across bridge from Aetheryte, another to the far East of there)

r32-37- Skeleton Soldier/Develit in basement of the Tam-Tara Deepcroft (supports one party 6-15)

r35-39- Raptors by Camp Dragonhead

(to be continued)

To use the party search interface you go to menu>party>search, under Target you select the class you want to search as.  After this you will get a listing of all the parties search for people your rank.  If you do not see a party go to one of these camps and see if there is already a party there (and ask if you can join), if the camp is free start a recruitment of your own.  Giving the location as the nearest camp, setting the rank requirements, and putting a short message about what you are hunting.

If you are too stupid to do this or have any other complaints, I don't care and I hate you.  I will simply block you and not read anymore of your posts on this forum.  If you have any actual questions I'd be happy to answer them for you though.

In the entire time I have played I have never had a problem starting or forming a group, I do not solo other than r1-15 and I think less of people who do solo regularly, I am on Selbina our population is fine at least during the times I play (late PST).

Thanks for the guide and a thread that talks about the game and not stock markets, CEO's and bogus articles from shady websites.

I like the party search feature and never had issues joining or recruiting players.

Ah thank you for the guide, quite helpful actually. Even I as more of a soloplayer ina MMORPG must admit that it makes a huge difference to have a party around, so thank you for this information.

I also like to suggest you bring at least 1 or 2 spare weapons unless you can repair your own weapon. Nothing hurts more than a broken weapon giving you crappy skill ups.

I personally carry a slashing and a piercing weapon on my gladiator and as a spare a Machuitl that i can repair myself.

Ah good advice, special when you have a party that sort of dies a lot. For some reason in every game nobody listens to the poor person that must keep them all alive.  For example when you have exactly 0 Mana :P

Woohoo, now that is what I was looking for. Almost gave up hope on these forums entirely. Thank you so much for the info, and good to see there is a need for teaming after the lower ranks.

As for the gear, the worst thing I have seen is the main tank having his body armor or shield drop to 1. I went from an occasional heal on crabs to dropping half my mana in one crab just trying to keep them alive. So dont just worry about the weapons for SP, nobody gets SP if the tank dies every fight when the healer is down to 0 MP.

So rtrue it kind of hurts if you see nice several 100 points move up for skillpoints you propably get and  than the enemy runs out of control and smashes you down. :)

I have yet to group up in the game yet :( I was doing a duo with a friend but he has taken a break as his GF is home for 6 weeks and he would rather plough her than time into the game :)

I miss grouping, best one I ahd was the jap guys in FF11 one night, only meant to play for a few hours but 9 hours later am still going, got some of my RDM Specific gear, adn all without muttering a word (ideal for me as I cant use vent etca s I am deaf :( )

I need to find a LS to play with and stop being so anti social

That is a good suggestion but another thing you could do which I don't notice a lot of ENG (and some JP) parties doing is stop every couple hours or so and repair/recruit again.  This is what some of the better parties I have been in do, while the SP flow is interrupted because everyone is at full strength and any vacancies are filled it more than makes up for it in the long haul.

Use the search function/check camps you don't really need a linkshell to party in this game.  This is an FF mmo, most of us group in this game if you actively try to group you can't really miss.

It's true Selbina might have a better community than most servers (I can't say I haven't been on any others since beta), but I can't imagine it is much/any harder on other servers if you actively seek out parties.

The Raptors by Boulder Downs aren't bad even until 40-42 depending on the party.

At 40-50 people sometimes grind the Raptors by Camp Ever Lakes which is just south of Boulder Down.

Can you put up a video of you doing anything in any of these places please?

I was oh so nicely told to not buy this game by an active player of ff14.

Id like to see what its like when you group in this area x.x  If it looks fun then I definitely suggest putting up more videos to get more players into this game.

Also can you explain how the grouping goes? Is it something like the way ff11 grinding was described or is it different?

Repeat that battle for about one month.

Now you know how the game plays =P

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

Well actually around Rank 20 as a  Thaumathurg you have a lot of things to consider. Not to mention the combination of different skills you obtain if you use several classes, or that certain shield buffs remove other shield buffs. The general geenration of agression that can be the direct dead of a group.  Not to mention the regiment attack that need group members to participate in a certain attackorder to release for example a defense lowering attack.

If you get higher in level there is a lot to consider in group combat. There are certain things to complain about the game but at leas I personally like the combat and the tinkering options with it. Anyway that is just my personal opinion with being Thaum at rank 20 first and some other combat classes around 10 or 14.

I believe that was me, and it was in response to some things you said about what you were looking for in the game (I believe I told you that you should wait also, not simply not buy it, while I personally am loving it I stand by my assertion that we don't need any people who have let's just say different ideas of what an MMO should be, many changes are coming and at least if you wait until then you'll have a better idea of what you are getting into if you have not played XI previously).  Anyways at least I told you nicely.

Also no I don't make videos of grinding parties... but I do have quite a few screenshots uploaded here:

    http://www.mmorpg.com/galleries/Murugan

Many are of grinding parties, guildleves, others are of Behests, I think there is a couple from faction leves our linkshell did, the ferry docks in limsa, general landscape shots, and there are more which I uploaded to the Final Fatnasy XI member submitted screenshots on this site.
