it is, if you know mmorpgs you know this one is a mmorpg 2... people say it isn't but i didn't see other game elements exept the pvp arena what looks like a FPS alot, but thats no poin the PvE is a mmorpg like hell, and if you dont like it, go and find an other forum!!
Erm, he's right though it's not a MMORPG, even the Devs aren't claiming it is. I don't approve of this typical hype anyway, people want to inform themselves on the game and all they get is this bs 'go elsewhere' by the fanboys.
I haven't played it myself yet and am trying to find out what it's worth aswell but so far most people are simply no help. Since too many want to be oh so utterly 'different' and revolutionary that they hype the game overproportionately. If you've seen Mulholland Drive you know what I mean, tell the fanboys it's crap and they tell you your just too dumb to understand the intelligence of the movie, doh. Same is happening here.
It's a game that focuses on PvP but at the same time has automatic point and click combat system, afaik, which really isn't that grand for PvP. Also it only allows PvP in certain areas, no stealing and no ambushes. So what exactly is the endgame about? From people I trust I've heard it is fun but it's shortlived fun and not near as revolutionary in many aspects as is being claimed here. I'm interested though, as are others too but it's close to impossible making a distinction inbetween all this hype.
Originally posted by tomcat2k4 dont get me wrong, I like the game but because it uses intsances you cant call it a mmorpg .. dungeon siege also isnt a mmorpg
The man asked if the game is fun, not if in your opinion its an mmorpg or not. Should we all go ahead and shelve the game because its OMG not MMORPG!!!111 I think not. Why would you even bring this up? Like really, who cares? Anyway...
To answer the question, yes, the game is addictingly fun, once you get used to the fact that its not like other online roleplaying games. There's not much for a crafting system or player economy, the zones are kind of linear, your character feels quite rigid at times. If you pick up this game expecting something like WoW, you are going to be very disapointed.
However, once you do get used to the interface and game mechanics, Guild Wars becomes really quite addictive. This is a game which is built around its combat skills system, which is really beautifuly done. Fighting in this game is kind of like playing magic.....you can combine up to eight skills at a time from any two professions to achieve sequence and combo effects, to overpower the enemy, sap them of their strength and energy, or simply shut them down. (Anti-caster ftw) The game is really generous with attribute reset points, and you'll need them, as you'll want to constantly swap your att. points to fit your current skill build the best. If you've ever built a deck for Magic: The Gathering, or any other such game, then you have some kind of idea as to what building your character is like. Great addictive fun!
Though some may disagree with me, I find the quests quite fun as well. This game has a great storyline, and once you get into it, the quests really bring across the "OK, we're on the brink of extinction, go do something about it damn it!" atmosphere. Did that make sense at all? Once you get into the game, you'll find you become addicted to questing in Guild Wars, "just one more quest, just one more buddy!" All this, and we're not even mentioning the wicked-awesome PVP we got going in this game, oodles and oodles of fun.
Is this game fun, is this game worth getting? Today I called in sick to work so I could stay home, check the forums, and play more Guild Wars. And I'm the kind of person that doesn't call in sick, even when I am actually sick. So ya, definitly worth buying, defintily fun, as long as you know what you're expecting. Cheers.

Yes, yes it is. Maybe not in the traditional sense, but it's:
Massive (large maps)
Multiplayer (lost of peeps)
Online (internet connection required)
Roleplaying
Game
This equates to MMORPG

Guild Wars is the best Game ever made. And I have played many games. All my friends play it, too, and that game is perfect balanced.
