WoW is in the process of imploding right now. Vivendi-Activision and WoW's latest development team make make up the real WoW killer.
I'd look for a big surge with Cataclysm, then a gradual hemorraging of accounts, followed by a more robust cash shop. Acti-Blizzard's going to milk this cow until she'a a rotting corpse.
That's how I see things going as well.
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
Rome was the eternal city, it surely could never fall to foreign invaders.
IBM was the absolute biggest name in computers. Surely no company would ever surpass them in a life time. Especially not garage companies like Apple or Microsoft.
Times change. Things move on. What works today might not work tomorrow. But the greatest empires and companies don't simply fall to foreign invasion or competition on its own. It is always preceded by hubris and rot from within. WoW will be supplanted some day. When? who knows but things move rapidly in the game industry. Who? probably some company that we haven't even heard of yet. Probably the last game we would ever expect will do the impossible.
With the new design direction Blizzard has taken in Cataclysm, I am not sure if we can say any other game will exactly kill WoW at any point. This of course is nothing but speculation because we have not seen Cataclysm come out yet but that's what it looks like to me so far.
What I would think might happen is that at some point Blizzard simply starts focusing more and more on other games and the game ages. As more advanced games will rise with new technology, I doubt it will only be a few games that will "kill" WoW. I am not sure if WoW will ever even be killed: maybe a few servers will still be running 15 years on from now, but Blizzard has stopped updating the game and focuses on other games, as well as does the whole MMO community.
For me the next wow killer is Blade and soul. Many people don't know what is this game about.(go watch the gstar 2009 gameplay and classes)The game is awesome and has a new system this will be the next gen mmo.On Gstar 2010 they will announce a demo..And i can't w8 the game is epic..And for me a wow killer but it isn't that well known.Nc soft marketing as a bit low.Check it out on youtube guys the best MMO EVAR..
There will be, we just need a company that is crazy enough like Blizzard to release the game across half of the planet.
Because that is the reason this game has these numbers, it's really not because that game is mega good it's just because it's everywhere. It's like McDonalds. Eventually you will have millions served.
Yes! As soon as another company figures out how to advertise thier game and do a decent job of marketing. There has already been several games that could easily beat WoW ...problem is the developers are all morons that don't know how to market and advertise it. WoW is a mediocre game at best. Blizzard is just smart.
No! there won't be because there is too many awesome games coming out soon and the MMORPG market is to saturated for everyone to go to a single game. Unless someone figures out the value of advertising of course...
The biggest problem is so many people play and people only play because their friends do, and the other problem is WoW can run on a toaster so everyone with a half ass computer can play it.
I don't see a WoW killer in the near horizon thats for sure. To be honest I doubt that this genre will ever have another mmo of WoWs standards. I think i've seen WoW being played or referenced to in about 10 different movies and tv shows. I'm almost positive that will never be repeated.
It was a good game when it was first released and its still a good game. Only people that can't agree with that are haters or people who got bored of it and can't move on.
WoW will be killed when the first MMORPG comes out that you can play on your iPhone. Which game that will be, and when, dunno. But its probably already being worked on by someone in some basement someplace. Maybe while they are taking a break from playing WoW. :P

I think you are confusing "prediction" with your personal "wet dream" here.
If 12 million people play this thing with not even a content update for 12 months in US/EU and China members had to wait 3.5 years for a new expansion, those numbers are not going away "soon".
And more importantly during these long "content dry" periods the revenue topped the previous year's income.
Hard to understand, I know, but dollars in the end prove everything.
I am finding wow is not worth investing money into. It just like every over online game that been around a while. Level caped people who not will to help lower level people. I have been playing it off and on since beta. This week my return because blizard offered free time. Lots of changes had happen since my last visit.
I find This last visit there are lots less low end people playing. They all at level cap. I been able to start a new character and not see another player tell i reach a major city. I have characters on the high end too, everyone seam to just being the normal grind and seam to be bored with it.
I did return and I was still in my guild i was in when i went to sleep, and was able to get some help and back on the roll again. I hate to see true noobs coming to WOW now, it be easy to solo up. But it just a game not the social aspect of the game.
No game will last if it does not get fresh blood, the WOW community is vast and that the only thing the keep it running. I personal don't see what people see in it. I personal cant see investing any money into this type of game. It is dieing from old age. Blizzard still puts out expansions, what are the truly giving? More area for the caped people to play in.
WOW has fallen into the line of EQ and EQII, unless your high level toon you will struggle if your alone, and unless you come with friends you will get bored and leave.

Whilst all the big names still seem set on trying to make a not very good version of wow i doubt any will replace wow as top dog.

WoW is not forever. Nothing is forever.
All die, so die well.
I hope Wow stays up for a long time - mmorpg community stays healthy when the trash is kept in one place.

At this point the only thing that can truly kill WoW is itself...
WoW will kill itself in time and after that something else will take the title of something to be killed.
I dont believe there will be
Why, oh why, did you bump this?
The answer is no, time, etc. Move along

MMEEEEEHHHHH!!!
Well might as well get a the ball rolling: Will there ever be a WoW killer killer(a game that killed the game that killed WoW)?
The answer lies within this following question: Will there ever be an end to these threads?
A: No

No one game will kill wow but each one may hack a piece off.
Yes. Blizzard's next game.
Do you know for certain?
The WoW killer, or as I like to call it, WoW player base, will eventually kill it.
The biggest problem is so many people play and people only play because their friends do, and the other problem is WoW can run on a toaster so everyone with a half ass computer can play it.
The Paladin

Here we go again. Stupid WoW killer posts.
