I give up

I bought this game about 6 weeks ago and have been playing it since then.  I work full time so I havent burnt myself out by playing too much.  The game is NOTHING but hunting mobs and doing crafting quests.  There is no depth whatsoever.  You can wear the best items in the game at any level so there is nothing to look forward to.

The armor/weapon system sucks.  The menu's take forever to get through.  The crafting system is good but there is no end purpose.  Items can be repaired to full over and over by players so there is no need to keep crafters in business like in UO.

The graphics are amazing and they dazzled me at first, I even upgraded my video card for this game.  But by now, the game is just so incredibly boring I can't stand to play it.  All I do is grind thruogh my local and regional levequests every 36 hour period and then I browse internet sites over and over again.  I continually alt-tab out of the game because its SO BORING.

I really wanted this game to be good.  But I'm so bored I just had to quit.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand you're now the 80th person to make a thread about that this week......this will either get merged or locked.  either way you've now shared or repeated the sentiment of alot of guys. hopefully the patches they're claiming to do in the upcoming months will improve it, but there's alot of guys who tired and couldn't put up with it anymore....so you're not alone. i'm still playing but i've put myself on "restrictive duty" if you will....as to not burn myself out. so at this point i'm playing 2 or 3 times a week for a 3 hr period.....which is just long enough to go through my UI once lol.

How do players do this? Only crafters can repair to full and NPC to 75%

So has most everyone else, don't feel bad.  How did the population look to you?  Was there a majority of people hanging out selling crap AFK still?

One of the people that played the game with me played 12 hours a day easily...but not really... They were watching movies, playing other games and surfing the internet...so they could have fun...while working at the game.

    That says a lot.

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

I know everyone is tired of these threads, but it is actually very interesting to me.  I've never seen people flogging themselves so much to enjoy a game.  Never.  Worse than the fear factor show where these pretty petite women were forcing down cooked horse a$$holes for a chance to win 50k dollars.

And when they finally give up, they absolutely have to tell somebody.

There is going to be a hell of a lot of "remember when" stories from this thing.

I think what bugs me the most about FFXIV right now is there's no real purpose to playing it.  They didn't add any end-game, and the adventure gaming aspects of it mostly involve 10 repetitive missions every 36 hours and a lot of pointless slaying of a very small variety of mobs in between.  They added an extensive number of adventuring gear to craft, but what's the point of crafting adventure gear when there's so little reason to adventure?

Basically, what they released with was wholly a crafting game.  You want to craft stuff, or get good at collecting the resources for crafting?  Go for it, they've got enough of that for you to do for months on end.  You want to do anything else... well, I've got some bad news for you: you'll be able to see most of the guildleves there are to see for a level range (1, 10, 20) in a day, and if it weren't for the need to achieve an adventure rank you could complete the very best part of the adventure game - the quest line - in a single evening.

So they say we'll be seeing a major content release in late November and then December.  That's exactly what the game needs.  However, time will tell if what they can produce by then will satisfy.

I'm starting to have doubts the first couple of patches will be enough to keep me in the game.  The promised improvements will help, but I'm also concerned about some of the overall design decisions, some of which can't or won't ever be addressed.  Plus, I'm boreddddd.  Kind of.

I don't know.  I don't wanna say I give up yet, but in reality maybe I already have. =  I haven't logged in much recently.

To SE's credit, it was good of them to give everyone yet another 30 days while they work on improvements and some new content.  I haven't seen anything like this ever with an MMO before, this kind of extra free time following a crappy launch.  Kinda weird, but at the same time they're taking some responsibility, which I like.

Which points to how much of a problem it is, even guaging from an obscure site such as this. The problem is permiating the potential FF XIV community and people are leaving in droves....the OP is not alone.

I'm not sure what to think of FF14 right now. Suffice it to say, I tried it and felt it lacking. I hope fans get their dream game soon, or it may be swallowed up by bigger and better titles.

The thing is, for anyone who enjoyed a game but is now having it start to cool off for them, it's hard to not sound like you're contradicting at least some of the initial feelings you had toward it.

I personally have no regrets over purchasing this game.  I tried it in Open Beta and knew what I was getting.  I enjoyed it, flaws and all.  Now, a couple of months later, I'm enjoying it less, so I'm not really logging in much anymore.  A similar thing probably happened with him, though Geldon you did used to say a lot in support of this game ;P  (/teasing)

    pie.
