People Ain't So Bad..

BorlucBorluc Member UncommonPosts: 262

Just recently, I decided to give darkfall another try.  My girlfriend, who is completely inexperienced in mmos, decided to play with me.  Naturally, I was pretty apprehensive seeing how this was her first mmo and Darkfall is a harsh setting.

Tonight at work she told me that she had died.  All manner of bad situations went through my mind.  I imagined a ruthless kill followed by verbal abuse.  In fact though, the guy gave her some advice (don't attack by accident...) and healed her up and went about his business.  No macho bull, no abuse, and a pass on a chance for some free loot.  It has me wondering whether or not people in mmos with all those rules would treat her so kindly if they had the choice.

I res people all the time. If someone dies in a camp and I see them lying there, I'll come up and res them.

Maybe one day the favor will be returned.

i only tried the free trial to DF.

the people seemed more focused on enjoying their game than being asshats.

the reasons i decided to not upgrade my account had nothing to do with the people in-game. i just didn't feel 15$ was fair for the amount of downtime the server had. of course that is because my times to play collided with their nightly maintence. if i was on a different schedule at the time, i wouldn't of had that issue.

This is an interesting post. I'm happy your girlfriend was well-treated because that's so rare in all games.

Honestly though I could never consider Darkfall a game worth any amount of money. I had my medical information, along with where I lived, posted on their forums by a troll. There were pictures of me, my family, my school etc. And the community manager laughed and said he would "archive" the post. I still have people telling me I should have filed a law suit against the company even years later.

Although the game may be different, as its community may be, I have no desire to sponsor a company that takes so little care with its own customers. I'm not a gamer I'm a CUSTOMER, and nowadays we see identity theft all over the news. It's something that should be taken seriously. This company will never have my respect.

The following has been my 2 cents.

Depend on the race you chose too. Im a mahirim and anyone killing an orc mahirim wont give any mercy. I think we are the most hated race. Our bad reputation come from the griefer community. Most griefers are Orc/Mahirim. Even me, i want to be a griefer one day. The clan name new is the one im gonna grief all day.

Expample of griefers, go on youtube and Type darkfall Hogg. These 2 orcs are the worst griefers in game since they make new players rage quit every day. Then you got someone name Grim creaper(A mahirim) who will kill any organization made to attract newb's or average in game. Since The clan name new live in the Mirdian land, they obviously get attacked by mahirim/orcs all the time.

So yeah, a mahirim like me, we got it really harsh, Every time i join a clan that is mahirim, orc only, i get attacked in an npc town by an other orc mahrim flagged as an enemy clan. I still got no problem since i survive all camp assault when i pve with a simple mount and some pots.

    SimperFi,

I'm sorry to hear that.  I've never seen something that wild on their forums, and maybe if you had taken action, then it would not happen again.  In any case, no one should have to go through that.  Would you mind elaborating on the situation?

May I ask what, if any, mmo you do play?

I'm pretty sure I have seen people banned from thier forums for posting personal information (even as  a joke).  Also, moderation (although the most lenient in the industry) is much stronger these days.

1st of all, Power Vbulltin. Second, Moderators are not payed employee. So i dont think they can get in trouble for that or anything.

As long there are other peope in your game experience, you will meet some nice ones, some bad ones and some in between.

Same as any other game, it does not matter if you play chess, some chessplayers are just bad people, and other are really fun.

in all fairness I want to say that in my 2 years of playing I have gotten killed a lot and I would guess that around 90% of those do not say anything at all after a gank and the other 10% say something nice.

Although I am not a fan of the community in general as a whole I have to be fair to say nobody has ever grief chatted me after killing me.

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Please do not respond to me

Most Darkfall players are not douchebags.  A n00b asking in Race Alliance for some n00b gear during peak hours will likely find someone to help them.

I've never found the community as a whole to be bad at all.

Short version: I agree that the vast majority of players in-game (as opposed to what you might read in the forums) are helpful and friendly. Communication is key.

    __

I have not been grief-chatted before in about 6 months of playing. If someone were pathetic enough to taunt a person they killed in an online game, I would just feel sorry for that person and just /ignore.

The vast majority of experiences I've had in this game have been positive. Getting killed in this game is part of the game, so it's no big deal at all. As I've said elsewhere in these forums, I think it's like getting tackled if you play American football. You just get up and move on.

People who like to grief chat or harass are just pathetic individuals. If they like to kill and move on, that's just their playstyle. However, they have fun, that's just the way it is. If they like to taunt and stuff, that's also okay, but you can ignore it. You can also most likely find a posse to hunt down this individual and turn it into fun for yourself.

I also have to disagree with the blanket statement that Ork/Mahirim are the worst griefers. I've seen plenty of Humans and Alfar that would like to rival them. Maybe this player just wants to appear like an MMO baddie. But that is the role he plays on the forums. It's how he has fun. Forums are an RP event for a lot of people, too.

I have met a lot of helpful people of all races in game. I've had people initiate a gank and then stop when they realized I was much weaker. I've had people gank and rez me - then give me loot or mounts. That describes the majority of my getting killed by stronger players. The "worst"  incident is if I sent a tell and was ignored. In that case, I guess the person just doesn't care or maybe doesn't even speak English all that well and can't be bothered. Mostly, I get a response with advice or tips on good mobs to grind in secluded places for loot and skillups where I won't be ganked so easily, not taunting.

I would also like to add that the worst thing in Darkfall community is the Gui chat. Lack of chat bubble or lack of Chat filter option to put all in one box so you can notice that the guy right in front of you is trying to talk to you, is really a bad thing for the game. It make it feel even more like an mmorpg. At the end, the only way players interact between each others, its with Ventrilo and Whispering no matter the gap between each others.

One day, i came across 2 alfar who were chasing me. I had my mount and tried to run away. In the process, i repeatly tried to ask them to stop because im a newb in trial. Its not like they would take the time to click on public to see what i have to say. Once they done killing my mount, i stopped moving. One of them finally took the time to click on Public chat and finally said that he was sorry and that he didnt know i was a newb, so he let me go.

BTW, dont ignore a player trash talking on you because he just killed you. Its a game, there is no rules against this so no one hesitate to do that kind of thing. You may ignore him, but ignoring him like /ignore name, i say that you are not better.

Yes, this is a good point.  I agree.

I haven't had to ignore anyone, fortunately.
