At one point SquareEnix will understand that "Free Trial" means "Free Trial", not "Free month after you buy a game that isn't worth the DVD is was burnt onto". How can it be free if you have to buy the game in the first place?

Good to hear. I was about to add some money to the account. Guess I don't have to till January.

I was just wondering the same. Reading the title, I thought, hey cool, let's try out this game... and then... or not.

Having beta'd this game, I wouldn't play it even it it were free to play/trial...which it isn't

While I agree the game isn't worth playing, their extending the "Free Trial" you recieve as part of the box. You know, those 30 days free (often called the "free trial" time). But yea, still awful.

this is just perfect. after screwing pc gamers with the crappy release, 2 free months is a given. this makes up for the much needed patches. hope to god these patches make the game better, and not suckier. giving this game till the official ps3 release to make amends, if it doesn't do any better by then, they can give my wallet a kiss goodbye.

Lol, they are just doing this so they don't have to release a really high cancellation rate. Honestly, if you keep extending the free gameplay, then you don't have to report that any of your players have cancelled... even if they have not played the game since they day they bought it (like myself).

This could have been such a great game. It's just FFXI with a new, slow, laggy UI... oh and all the titles have changed so you don't call your new cat woman a Mithra :-P

Anyhow, I wonder how bad their retention rate really is. I might just log into the server s to see how many people are still active. With all the bad reports out there, I'm thinking their cancellation rate would be somewhere between 40% and 60%.

The complete failure to include an interface adapted for the PC did it for me. The other mistakes, bad though they were, were excusable as poor planning. But supplying the game with the same totally clunky and unusuable interface as FFXI, basically a a console interface, and despite the years of complaints under FFXI still not producing a different interface for the PC is simply an insult to any PC player.

It is NOT hard to produce a platform specific interface. Requiring people to go through multiple layers of nested menus for the simplest of actions is ridiculous. They got away with it in FFXI and they thought they could get away without the least effort on FFXIV. I am happy to see that the players didn't stand for it.

The game does have potential. If they add content, FIX the damn interface so that you dont have to buy a game controller to play the game, and overhaul the crafting system, they will have a very pretty and hopefully playable game. The sooner they do it the less players they will lose.
