In his DC Universe Online Weekly Edition #14, MMORPG.com's Bill Murphy takes a look at power sets. Initially Bill's inner geek was offended by the fact that -only- six power sets would be included at the game's launch. But time and medication have made him think more clearly, as DCUO Weekly #14 shows. Check out what Bill has discovered about power sets and why he says there are Plenty of Power. Weigh in on our forums with your thoughts when you're finished.
Once, I looked at the fact that DCUO was launching with six power sets and I nearly fainted from shock and utter horror. I started running around my town with sandwich-board sign fastened tightly to my back, my clothes reeking of wine and cheap cigarettes. The entire time I shouted, “My dear God! Why have you forsaken us?! Why have you given us only six power sets in DC Universe Online!?”

Nice article. You sum up one of the coolest aspects of DCUO: uniqueness. Yes, there are likely going to be min/max builds for the anal retentive group, but when you throw in movement, powers and weapons, there is a ton of potential for uniqueness. You can't be just like Superman. You can't be just like Wonder Woman. You can't be just like Flash. But that's the point. You are supposed to carve out your own unique spot in the DCU and be the next legend.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
I just want to make a char that has Superman X powers. I dunno if I will be able to, but I'd be happy with getting close enough. That said, under what of the 6 powers does superman come to? I get nature being Poison Ivy or Beast boy, but there is no FIRE for Krypton is there? Can anyone that has played the game or know more about it elaborate?
At least with a sub game they know that people won't tolerate bullshit and leave. With anet we have no recourse but to buy our own lube so our assholes don't get too stretched out from getting bent over a table at Anets will. - Hrimnir
Another guesswork article?
Actually, everthing mentioned in the article can be found in the official videos. Not to mention the DC University info that has started flooding the fansites. He is simply stating his take on the information and how he feels things will play out.
Since the pushback of launch, information has started coming in a break-neck speed.

Yeah but come on 2 trees in the same typical sets? And then some buff and travel powers being counted is kind of trivial.
This game's going to need to season. Even CO's lame F2P scheme gives people 8 choice that branch out.
I mean I can see from a design point that taking it easy is a good idea, and probably not that easy, but pigeon holing isn't something established in the market they're entering.
Eh best of luck to them.
I still will avoid giving SOE any money tho' thankfully with the information that's got out.
I think the comment that travel powers are just glorified mounts in CO and CoH is significant and very apt, it illustrates the different approach to powers by the DCUO team, at last picking a power isn't just a superficial tweak - it makes a difference to who you are and how you play.
There appears a lot deeper understanding of what you need to do to convey a genuine sense of involvement in a comicbook world than we have had before and that is probably the single most important facet missing from the superhero mmo - CoH is trying to adapt to do something similar but it will always be fighting its own system, it will be interesting to see if the next gen of mmo will really capture this feeling or whether it will miss as badly as CO did.
I was really addressing this entire series of articles and questioning if it really should be a weekly offering there really has been so little to discuss in the way of factual information.
I'm not really commenting on his conclusions from those guesses or the underlying message that everyone should calm down, because he thinks it will work out. Just that there really isn't enough information to make a weekly article about the subject.
No offense to the author meant, because I think he is doing the best with what he has, which is almost nothing.
The problem i have with the powersets is i cannot create a Strength based character. I want to make a tank character with just absed on STR, i cannot do that, i must choose Ice or Fire to tank. Very little selection, but the depth and branching of the powers is nice otherwise.
As much as I enjoy CoH (I do, immensely, so many years later), I look forward to checking out the DCUO beta.
cant wait to try better. it will either fail like CO or actually stand a chance against CoH (which seems like its being set up to die anyway)
You can't make characters like Superman, from what I heard. I read an article where it says Superman is an Ice character! ICE! SUPERMAN!
