The official World of Warcraft: Cataclysm site has been updated with a look at Tol Barad and how it will change after the upheaval coming with the new expansion. After Cataclysm arrives, Tol Barad will be an open world PvP zone with hubs from which both Horde and Alliance can complete daily quests. Up to eighty players will be able to engage in PvP combat across the entire island.
Tol Barad will feature capture-point gameplay. There are three keeps and three towers for the defending side to hold. When destroyed by the attackers, each tower will add five minutes to the standard fifteen-minute battle timer. In order to win, though, all three keeps must be captured and controlled by the attackers. If these keeps cannot be taken by the attacking forces, the defending faction will claim victory in Tol Barad. Similar to Eye of the Storm, Tol Barad determines whether a keep has been captured by the number of players from each side in the immediate area. There is, however, a new twist: each time a member of your faction is killed in the immediate vicinity of a keep, a slider bar will move slightly in favor of the opposing faction. So not only does the size of each force in the area determine who controls each keep, but losing allies during the contesting process determines control as well.

Sounds a lot more interesting than Winterspring, which was basically a siege engine zerg.
I'm glad to see that WoW is now using pvp lakes...I mean islands...I mean lakes. :P
Before you know it WoW will be introducing the new and completely revolutionary Communal Quest System where players can get together and complete multi-stage quests even if they're not partied together!
Yoink.adios\losers
That name sounds almost directly ripped from Lord of the Rings hehe.
i like how blizz is still trying to reinvent world pvp with cordoned off limited pvp areas that get rarely used after the curious few try it out and find it boring and real world pvpers continue to ignore this kind of shit because it's not real world pvp.
last i heard wintergrasp ended up like regular world pvp and all previous world pvp "lakes" with horde dominating regularly and alliance simply not even participating because even with hard caps on total players in teh zone for alliance scrubs it still QQ THE SERVER IS NOT BALANCED even when in the average world pvp encounter neumbers tend to be either even or in alliance's favour they just choose to not fight back preffering to get steamrolled to just get it over with, no matter how many rewards are given for participating.
last time i played alliance weren't even trying in BGs any more just semi afking for quick wins for horde for the HK points and badge to farm their gear.
KERPLAH!
Lol @ Wow PVP . Looks more like He-man dolls fighting at a kids party ..... Wow seriously need to upgrade their ancient battle system. Not just the graphics... The whole thing is just old.
Played WOW for ages then left to go and do Real PVP in AION. Never looked back. Wow really is a PVE kiddy game.
If you want to see epic Mass PVP , youre not going to get it in wow. Wow isnt horrible, its just more for pve-ers. Personally i couldnt look another merloc in the eye.
"mrararaarararawwawawa.... !!!!: LOL
Oh yes and there are always those hot Tauren Chicks....
And hardcore PVP is what you get in Aion? Just the same grind throught the Abyss scouting (please let there be someone lower level than me) for someone to kill. My first PVP experience in Aion was bloody amazing, but as time went by it got old really quick.
Have to say that i didn't play aion in a couple of months so maybe it changed for the good
and how about GW great pvp sytem? it was just amazing to many of us with possibility to avoid PVE of any kind by buying PVP pack?
But must admit WoW still get me lot of fun even if it not pro PVP. and (shhh) remember PKing in runescape?=XD
try before buy, even if it's a game to avoid bad surprises.
Worst surprises for me: Aion, GW2
Let me think what they tried to do to appease the open world pvp players .
TBC all zone had a conflict point , (Depending on the server faction balance) never really hot contested.
WOTLK all new zones had a open pvp area ... almost nobody uses it .
So all the talk about OPEN PVP is a hot selling point .
Nope still the same old stories rewards are the selling points .
So whats the tol barad rewards ? if nothing then its another design thats left to rot in pieces .
Let me see what a server would do if a 1% of legendary drops from a boss that instant kill all , need 10000 people to zerg it.
How many people would still try day and night to form it up XD .
Then the loot issue , the moans and whines on the forum , ooh lovely drama .
@ hincha .. Tnx 4 reply .. but you didnt play a long time if you didnt do sieges.
Aion sieges is what keeps me locked. In wow you hav like random PVP here and there and youre lucky enough to be on a pvp server and the guys is close to you on levels you might be a ble to attack him. Lol in Aion there is a constant war for possession of the abyss and high level forts. Its all out mass PVP, and anyone can attack anyone of the other faction. You dont hav to fly around in the abyss to look for pvp , there is always a siege or sumthing going on that you can just join into.
Oh yeah all that ganking in Aion was so much better than Wow pvp......I don't understand what excitement people get over killing players that have no chance against you. I like a challenge myself, but to each his own.
It will be interesting to see how this new battlezone plays out.
it actually sounds very good, looking forward to it.
Oh but i did sieges and I liked them, but a couple off months later there was none around to do sieges with, just looking and hoping that there was someone to kill.
I have to admit though that the PVP (when it worked) was way better in Aion then in WoW
Wintergrasp was a massive success in player numbers.
Wintergrasp was simply too popular at launch so Blizzard had to cap it to 240 players after the first months.
So your "nobody" statement is contradicting what everybody saw who played.
I have been doing WG a lot in these last weeks and still see 2 raids on each side being formed.
So unless you can show me a game where you can have a massive PvP fight with around 150 players total every 2 hours on prime time... I think you better be quiet about the massive succes the Zone is and was.
Blizzard said they learned 2 lessons in TBC: only organise massive RvR at the end levels (80) and concentrate it to 1 or 2 zones.
Tol Barad adds another twist: the winning side opens up PvP daily quests on the other side of the island.
So it will be played massively (like WG was).
I only think the animated Siege and southern towers in Wintergrasp were more epic.
Oh ... and with the added new rated Battlegrounds and the "wargames" mechanism (guild that challenges guild in a BG) my hunger for PvP will be quite satisfied in CATA.
So...basically this is another "who ever fields the largest force wins" BG...cool...something new.
PS: Tenacity doesn't do shit if you're CCed by 4 players.
Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising everytime we fall.
Wow already had multistage communal quests back during the opening of AQ and Naxx. Years before the other game had them. Neither "war" game was the first to do it.
Not exactly: Blizzard uses a new formula where both sides would roughly have equal number of forces allowed in the zone at the moment of the pitched battle.
It is being used alreay in Wintergrasp these days.
It is give and take: you now will have much better balanced battles.
But if you are too late to subscribe to the picthed battle you're out of luck for the next couple of hours.
i got to say guys,i love the autobalancing feature blizz might have to raise it on faction server(illidan allie)but over all it will make the pvp way more challenging and fun
So ANOTHER section of the game that PvE players cant participate in and ANOTHER series of nice rewards PvE players also can't acquire - this is BS! - make ALL the items available to ALL the P A Y I N G customers - was going to do a 12 month sub but now monthly is the way I'll go - ever since the reigns were handed over to that PVP WANKER! the game has been dumbed down and PVP'd up - NEXT!!
DEFINITION OF REALITY: Graphics ok, Sound ok, Gold drops need more work...
No Blizzard screwed this up. Now only the same number of players can compete in WG and in the futue Tol Barad. That means if only 5 players from Alliance queue in to play WG - only 5 players from the Horde can get into the battle. That is how it is on my server. Alliance rarely play WG since we WTF PWN them constantly. So the great battle we use to have there are now nothing more than areana fights. Sad thing is....sometimes some of the people that do get chosen to get in are farmers and all they do is farm mats.
Blizzard totally botched BG and this will also mess up Tol Barad on servers like mine because we do not have enough of an Alliance presence to allow for large battles.
If it doesn't work out I'm sure blizzard will adjust it. This is sort of the nature of the beast with open world pvp. Team balance is a very difficult issue to resolve. That is why instanced pvp is really a better overall experience.
Note I didn't say it is the ideal perfect dream of what people want in pvp.
