Hello! We are a research group at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York that is interested in how people who play Massively Multiplayer Online Games make meaning of their world, and what role these games play in their everyday lives and who they are.
We currently are conducting a survey of gamers and hope that you will be willing to volunteer 15-20 minutes of your time to answer some questions. The online survey is completely anonymous, and we will be examining and reporting the responses only in the aggregate. No identifying information is required to complete this survey, other than basic demographic characteristics. We hope that this will help us to better understand issues of the relationship between games and the "real world," and we plan to share our results, naturally, with the gaming community.
If you have any questions about this survey, or concerns about confidentiality, please contact the Principal Investigator, Alexander Halavais (halavais@buffalo.edu). Thanks!
The survey can be found at: http://schoolof.info/mmog/

I hope this doesn't fuel the whole 'Gaming influences our children, ban games!' arguement.
Nope. Or, that is to say, we are really not interested in kids for this piece of research -- in fact you should be 18 or over if you take the survey. We're more interested in how gaming fits into people's lives, and how people's lives fit into gaming. We know how it is for us, but -- you know -- we might be weird.
Fair enough. You might be weird, indeed.
Thanks for the reply.
