Let's hope the folks that get in beta think this way because it is a real beta.

You can't blame us, when developers finally make a game that doesn't disappoint, then attitudes will change. Until then though, just gotta deal with the negativity.

My bets are on SWTOR, GW2 and Rift changing the tide, but I guess by this time next year we'll have found out.

Yeah, I think Rift, GW2, swtor, and TERA will give people a little something different and all be viable options for people.

Rift - Improved themepark, with hopefully a good amount of DAoC/WAR/VG feel, but updated...with the Rift system, that they said could be expanded to add other dynamic type content easily.  Plan on this being my main game, will get to play beta and see how it goes.

GW2 - Some dynamic quest logic tree content systems, and an improved MMO feel, over GW, plus its B2P, I plan on picking it up, even though I plan on Rift being my main game.

SWTOR - I am interested, but skeptical, but in the minimum, people will like the story driven content, and it will be different.  I have to imagine with the money spent it will be good, for whatever it turns out to be.  I am not a huge story/quest person, so that is what leaves me somewhat skeptical, but I think this will be the last of the 4 titles to release and it will fill a void/niche the others are not.

TERA - I am not interested in this title, but it is a FPS type targeting system, and a eastern imported type game that people have a lot of interest in.  So this also will give people another option/feel.

I think between these 4 games, people will be able to grab 1-2 titles that they will like, that are new and different from what they are playing now.  No need to hate on a single title, as all 4 will bring something different and new to the table to give MMO players a new option.

I'm exactly with you on this, except for the story part, which is something I LOVE, and is nearly the only thing keeping TOR on my list. TERA isn't really there for me, but I hope its fans are not let down. Rift is my game so far (played 5-6 hours of it), and GW2 might be a buy if my computer can handle it.

I got to meet the lore writers for Rift at the Gamer Day event. I have faith in them.

Come on everyone! This isn't a time to go with your pet franchise - this is a time to experiment, discuss, and put developers and companies to task! 2010 may have been dead MMOwise, but 2011 looks like an amazing year.

Hope keeps us going and buying. But I see more disappointment on the horizon. Not because these games will not be good, not that Rift will not be good, but because expectations have become very demanding and unrealistic.

It takes one to know one.

So, this whole genre has become a self-fulfilling prophecy of failure?

They are doing tests on the alpha servers. The whole closed beta stuff is just marketing and a little bit stress testing.

I know that.. Just saying that dropping someone out of a beta due to not giving feedback is probably never going to happen.

It usually goes like that but Betas are getting farther and farther from what they used to be.. Take Rift for example, Trion is giving away keys thru contests/twitter/ect and not looking thru applications for the long-time beta testsers.. They are using this beta test (as most MMORPG companys are now a days) to get publicity it seems.. I'am sure testing the servers is on there mind but this'd be the first beta test i've gone to that actually rewards you for finishing something first in the game before other players do.. lol i think they are giving away a GeForce graphics card to whoever finishes some certain quest line first.

Either way i'm signed up.. I got my beta key.. I'll defiantly be there to give my feedback.. I'am REALLY looking forward ot this game and testing it.

Actually you guys in beta they analyze everything to where you die to where most people grinded they already know this while ur testing so just "playing" it basically helps them so it is extremely unlikely to be dropped from one unless ur not even playing. They Map out every item dropped and received to every level gained off of what and where. They might even be so kind as to show you if you ask. But finding glitches is also essential and helpful towards their final product
