For example: Any character could have 3 different classes to be played as, so as far as I understand their will be no limits to what souls you use so something like Ranger/Assassin/Healer could be possible. If that sounds interesting to you like it does to me, you'd be kind of excited about this game as well.

That does sound interesting.  I'll have to look into it a little deeper.  If it really does have such radical combinations of classes then it would seem pretty new to me.  It would be more than dual-speccing like in WoW.  I guess it would be closer to RoM with their dual-class system.  Still, it's worth looking into.  I'll check it out.

For now you can only stay in your calling if your warrior class you can only mix and max the 8 classes in that calling so on for mage rogue and cleric but whats cool is some of the classes in the callings can do other things. In Rogue calling you have a class that can tank in the mage calling you have a class that can heal/dps we need alot more info on all the heroic classes but it seems like alot of the classes are unique some the standard but mixing and matching classes will get you something truely unique. So far what i know is Branchs part of your talent tree is just like wow you can spend a total of 51 points into any given tree at max level the roots part are you skills last skill in roots cost 51 points. So lets say i make a cleric class i can make a druid/shaman/warden class spend points like 17/17/17 split points into all classes evenly now this is where the balance comes into play any skill i gained from roots you can level up threw trainers so if i get nature heal or something it's level one so threw out my levels i can train that skill until end game. With my 3 classes i gain a alot of skills from 3 different classes but it doesn't nerf you can mix and match and still be a great player but i can also go fulling down and tree and still be great i think you get like 4-8 roles where you can swap and change classes on the fly.

I agree with the OP. Rift is just more of the same.

First of all it uses a class system. Already you're restricting what players can do.

Second is uses a faction system as the basis for why you are doing what you're doing. Again this is old hat.

It uses a traditional monthly subscription model. Nothing new there.

It will have different server shards based on where you live in the world and you're play style. Again, same old same old.

Where is the Fantasy MMO that uses a single world like Eve and a skill based system like Entropia? A MMO where any player can learn any skill if they dedicate enough time and effort?

I'm sick of tired of having to roll a different toon because I want to play a character with feign death. Why can't my Wizzy learn how to play dead? Or having to have one toon who is a Jeweler and roll another toon to be a Weaponsmith. Why can't my guy do both?

Then there is this entirely arbritary system of those guys over there vs these guys over here. Now you pick a side and fight for them.

It's just old and played out.

OP, you are correct.  But also consider that hundres of thousands of new players are being introduced to the mmorpg genre each year, as hundres of thousands become more tired of the perceived "much of the same" after a prolonged period in the genre.

Kind of a cop-out. There are maybe three or four other games that do what CoD and Civ5 do. And they are mostly of the same title/company. I can probably find close to 20 MMOs, by companies that are not Blizzard, that are "WoW clones." So far, Rift looks to be one of them.

Ironically, the difference is that Trion and the usual suspects is that Trion is saying they are doing some stuff the same. Actually, they said they are sticking to several MMO 'standards' that people are used to. It gives me some hope that Trion isn't over hyping the game and is actually giving people legit information on what's available and what they can expect when the game goes live.

That doesn't mean it'll be great and it doesn't mean that it won't be. It's nearly impossible to tell if an MMORPG is good without playing it these days.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

It was called Dark and Light and wass pretty much universally considered to have been the worst MMORPG in history.

not really on topic, but answers your question.  but anyhow, yeah, if you're looking for a game that's totally different from what's out there today, you have a few years to wait as I don't know of any in development.  TSW sounds a bit different but is 2012 at the earliest and I'm sure CCP will do something unique with WoD, but that is like 2013 at earliest.

Until then, it's either stop playing or play one of the games that are similar to others.  At least Rift isn't pretending to be a unique and beautiful snowflake, it's pretty clear the type of game it is, so it's easy to make a decision of whether it interests you or not.
