Recently I got some excess spending money from work, and am wanting to get back into the MMO genre (I've been mainly playing single-player stuff such as AC: Brotherhood for a while).
So, I've narrowed it down to either buying Cataclysm or Mortal Online. I need some help in deciding, though.
I'm not currently subscribed to WoW, so I don't know what the world changes are like, but my hesitation comes from the fact that I basically know what Cataclysm will give me - more of the same in a different model with a slightly changed paint job. I've researched the game, but know that while I'll probably like Cataclysm for a bit, it won't entertain me long term. Also, I know it's not officially out for two weeks, but to still get another opinion on the matter would be nice.
I've been intrigued by Mortal Online for a while now (as some of you may remember I had the APB vs MO thread a while back). Every time the game sucks me in and has be about to buy, however, I hear some atrocious story about terrible glitches/bugs and horrible GM's. I also don't want to invest money in a game that could be on the verge of closing.
So, TL;DR version: Which game would you rather play?
Played: EQ1, EQ2, WoW, WAR, EVE, LotRO, AoC, RoM, FoM, CoX, PotBS, GW, SWG, VG, PS, and others.

Stay farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr far far far away from Mortal Online.
To answer your question: Your better off getting WoW Cata.
I'll explain:
Right now as it stands Mortal Online is a disaster (They recently had a few free days for old subs if they subbed for a month, I tried it for 12 minutes and uninstalled it and charged it back.); which is sad because I honestly wanted MO to succeed and give me something new aside from all the same ole' same ole'. MO is not worth the money for a few very simple reasons: Buggy, laggy, de-sync, and criminally low pop to state a few.
WoW- Cata however is probably going to be much more worth your money and plus you could just as easily buy the basic WoW and still get access to all the new world changes without buying Cat right off the bat. My suggestion would be get the trial for WoW basic, give it a try, and see if its worth your money. I have an active WoW account because of a few of my buddies playing it and even though I played it back in vanilla I still find it pretty fun to play from time to time.
Try the WoW trial and then see what you think is my most sound advice man; but whatever you do steer clear of MO.
I've also never played MO, and don't ever plan to.
But from what I've read about MO, go with WoW.
As for me, I'm sticking with Darkfall.
MO is horrible, I was highly dissapointed upon entering the game. It's sad when one of the first things you see is buildings or scenary that is not even touching the ground lmao. WoW will obviously be at least polished(even though I disslike it and unsubbed long ago), and wont have game breaking bugs. I honestly have tried many MMO's recently(upon retiring from WoW and EQ), and they all suck to be blantent. Taking a break from them and playing Minecraft here .

Mo is a large empty shell of a sandbox game, and wow is a big filled in shell of a theme park, imo both are big steaming piles of s well u get the idea, now they say if uve nothing costructive to say dont say anything, so to help you out im gunna point u in the direction of the best mmo on the market to date, its called Darkfall and it will blow your mind, dont listen to the haters theres a free 2 week trial, have a go uve nothing to loose and trust me you wont be dissapointed it truely is the best fantasy based mmorpg that has come out yet.
CATA will offer very little surprises so you already know if you will like it or not.
MO should have a free trial, give it a go for at least a little while so you have something to compare with.
Then choose what you have most fun in.
Only way to go, we all vote based on what we prefer and we are us, not you. We like different games and some people hate a game while others love it.
MO is however still pretty rough and not that competently coded. On the other hand is my list of competently coded games released and listed on this site here: 1. Guildwars. 2. Wow. The rest are from not good to really bad.
So be warned, there will be bugs. And a lot more than you are used from in Wow.
Huh? Please send me some of what you're smoking. Darkfall is a POS. It's not even a shiney POS.
To the OP: If you were a friend, and asked me which of the two (MO or WoW) to invest money and time in, then I'd have to advise you to stay clear of MO and go with WoW. Of course, if you were my friend, then we'd probably have the same tastes in games.
Since you're not a friend, and I don't know what your taste in gaming is, and assuming this isn't a troll post (which it probably is), then I'll tell you to try both. Give MO a try. Don't pay any attention to all of the reviews that basically call the game a turd. Use your own judgement.
Then, if you have any money left, give WoW a go. That way you'll have your own experience to base your decisions on, and you won't have to rely on the advice of strangers who really don't give a damn what you play.
If your only choices are MO or WoW, get WoW. They've just redone it and there will be a LOT of stuff to do and a LOT of stuff to see. MO is a cr@ppy game and it will be years before it's really even playable.
You might want to try out some free trials of various games to see what your gaming tastes actually are.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
I am what you might call a WoW hater but I would still get WoW over MO lol.
I have played WoW, MO during the first week after launch, and I currently play Darkfall.
I won't weigh in on what I think of any of those games. They are all very different.
What I don't understand at all, however, is how you narrowed your choices down to those two games: WoW/MO.
They are so different in so many different respects. It's like saying you want to buy a vehicle and you've narrowed it down to a choice between a Denali and a Kit Car.
It's like an SAT question:
WoW is to MO as Denali is to Kit Car.
I don't know.
OP - Can you elaborate on how you narrowed it down to those two? I'm seriously curious.
Edit: OP - Wait a minute. I think I see what you did there...
Edit 2: Personally, I'm looking for the MMORPG equivalent of the 2011 Aston Martin V12 Vantage. Any suggestions out there?
What a strange choice in games to pick from....
Anyhow.. in the words of the Massively Review on Mortal Online : Stay away, Stay FAR away!!
As for Cataclysm... well.. not my cup of tea but at least it would likely work, have a higher population than a M&B Warband server, and might be a fun themepark experience for a few weeks.

mortal online is ran by thieves. I call them thieves because that game is in my opinion garbage and GM conduct is just....well the conduct is bad lets say that much. Game is broken too.
Cataclysm? awesome.....all ima say....
Hmmm... play a game with tons of quests, tons of pvp action, tons of content, tons of locations and millions of people online to do it all with or...
..play Mortal Online.
"TO MICHAEL!"
Strange pair to pick from. Of the two (whilst it's not my cup of tea) obviously WoW if simply due to the fact that MO in it's current state is a complete joke. If though a game like MO appeals to you why not try Darkfall instead, it's a hell of a lot better bet for the long run.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
I love/hate most games I have played over the years, and that is a long list O' games!
But definately Cata for me!
"Huntress"
Hehe, this isn't a troll post. I just honestly wanted peoples' opinions.
To clarify how I narrowed it down:
I've played almost every single f2p and p2p MMO on the market (including Darkfall, as a previous poster suggested). I have played WoW before off and on and it tends to entertain me for ~ 1-2 months each time I get it, but the gear grind is starting to wear even that down.
I've never played MO and have (obviously) not played Cataclysm, so those are really the only choices left. I know they seem strange, but so it goes.
As a side note: someone mentioned a MO trial? I didn't know such thing existed. If it does, I'll gladly try it.
Played: EQ1, EQ2, WoW, WAR, EVE, LotRO, AoC, RoM, FoM, CoX, PotBS, GW, SWG, VG, PS, and others.
i laugh hard when i saw the title.
There is absolutly no contest here: Cata.
why? rated battle gounds! hell yea baby!.....get out of my AV you retarded Snowfall GY caper!
no but seriously, stay away from MO.
Eh what? Your telling him to ignore 90% of anyone that tried the game lmao? I find it funny in some situations when people say to ignore all the reviews and give it a shot, 99% of the time they(or me in a few cases) will obviously run into the same issues all the reviews have in common.
Your opinion of DF is just that though, a opinion. Fact is at the moment DF is much better than MO, since MO has no content at all hardly. Though I am sure if they don't go under it will eventually be comparable and surpass DF(maybe about 2 years from now as slow as updates are). I am not defending DF, I played it a lot in the past but got burnt out on the same thing everyone does(one of the times I ignored reviews) which is the massive grind to be decently competitive.
