I'm a college student who works as much as I can, but through all the various costs EVE is still pretty expensive compared to other games. I feel like EVE would do much better and attract even more people if the price dropped to $10 a month. Just my thought. I may buy another month in the near future.

How do you mean? Last time I paid, it was $14.95. Has this changed? If not, this seems pretty standard for P2P MMOs. That said, my understanding is that Perpetuum has some level of resemblance to EvE (in mechanics) and has a lower monthly cost, so you might look that route.

One month is $15, but you can buy more at a time to get a discount. The 6 month plan is only $72, which is $12 a month.

    Playing - EVE, Wurm

Retired - Final Fantasy XI, Anarchy Online, Mabinogi

    Waiting - ArcheAge, Salem

It's also worth noting that the price drops if you go for longer subscription intervals.

You can also get free months by sending buddy invites and getting new people to subscribe. Get a couple of friends in to the game, and you've got 2 free months right there. In 2 months you should be able to get yourself to a state where you're able to pull in 25M/hr doing hi-sec missions, or 30M/hr doing Havens in 0.0. And one decent escalation from a Haven will net you enough ISK to pay for a couple more months.

How is it more expensive? The price is pretty much the same as WoW and other big MMO's.

Because of the exchange rate it does work out more expensive if your UK.    Most UK MMO's are £8.00 a month, which is approximatly $15.00...    but since we pay in Euro's it actually works out at about £13.00.

You can get around this buy going to an american time-code site and using a credit card to purchase time-codes.

But you need to put it into perspective really, $5 or a few quid needs to be measured against what you _prefer_ to play.  If Eve is your favorite game then it shouldnt matter,  if you prefer to play other games... then again, it shouldnt be a matter cost, go play other games.

You've got to measure it all against the entertainment factor you gain from your subscription.  And also remember that no matter how often you play other games, you'll never get to the stage where you can pay for your subscription in game.  3-4 months into Eve you could easily grind for a PLEX.

So it realy comes down to how much you like Eve, nothing to do with money, not really.

According to the OPs profile, (if accurate) he's in New York, US so should just be a standard $15 at that point.

I can understand saying a sub price is too expensive for a person current circumstances, but when he says "but compared to other MMO's it is far too expensive to play monthly" is where I am getting confused.

Well the cost to play an mmo can be a big issue, specially when there are so many games out there. I have never subscribed to more than 2 mmo's at the same time and I think paying for more than that is on the edge of being critical for many people. I also sympathize with OP's student situation as Im in the same situation. I would start playing EVE now if it was not about the money.

Seriously? This post could've been placed in 90% of the P2P MMO's on this website, since they all charge roughly the same amount. You're making it sounds like you have to pay everything in your food budget just to make up for the difference in price between EVE Online and other P2P MMO's. How does that not make you a troll?

wow, if a student cant afford an MMO,  what does he do with is waking hours when not studying or attending letures?

Are you really saying that students are so brasic that they cant even afford to go out for a few beers? A movie? a date?  so skint that they cant afford a take away and must eat rice and bread?

seriously, I play MMO's to SAVE money.  because otherwise id be bored out of my mind and be tempted to go out and party!   LOL,  students nowadays must be completly in-capable of managing their money properly.
