I hate this board being spammed over for keys by people who normally don't post ANYTHING.

Hate away, Psym0n. It aint gonna do much good, I think.
This isn't a mmorpg community-centric site where most come to gather, chat, lament and hang in their game-of-choice forum anymore, I think. Maybe it was in 2004, but today it's more like a cat-house that most and many pass-thorugh for one trick, as seen with the large number of fortunate folks with, newlysubscribed to this site 1-10 new posts that grabbed many, if not most, of the Rift VIP keys.

Well, I for one hate this really much! I am hoping these people don't ruin the rift community as well!
Atleast the first respond came from a MMORPG.com vet

I don't spend nearly as much time on the Rift Forums anymore because of the lack of substance they have now. Most of the true vets on the site participated in Alpha and are probably still testing before Closed Beta launches. I just wish I had managed to find their site sooner.
Most of the people that post on the forums now are whining about the intolerance of the community, how they want the game to turn out, and older members of the community talking about how the dispensing of VIP keys overlooks the quality testers. While I strongly agree with this, we have to remember that closed beta is for marketing more than it is for bug testing, so they just want to get as many people in-game as possible. Although, I think it'd be better to get your devoted members in first.

Psy. . .Firstly, the community you see on the Rift Forums are the folks or is the community that is going to carry into the game, I bet. I've been watching it too, so call it what you will. . .I see a bunch of immature-like entitlement attitude, that is nothing new to this genre, which have expectations for "accessibility". Not perhaps for betterment and contribution for a solid product, but for inclusiveness because they think their entitled to what others have. At this point, Trion already has their project roadmap, which is about complete, and this is stress-testing and marketing for them.
Bak. . .secondly, your right, as far as I'm concerned. Just as mmorpg.com might not be emphasizing the value or appreciation of whats left of their active or supportive community, if there is such a thing, their devoted members, but have expressed more of an interest in drawing attention to their site, as others have done, by marketing that they have keys to anyone that creates a "I just want a key" account, and giving out VIP (Very Important Person) keys of a product to anyone that is one who can sit around all day hitting the F5 key on the main page.
Pinhead (commnuity foolish position) or Patriotic (community supportive position). . .you make the call. But at the end of the day, I just want a solid, massively-multiplayer game that transcends the mediocrity I've experienced for the last 5 years or so.

Closed beta is still a bug testing phase, just on a bit larger scale than an alpha. Open beta is more the marketing and stress testing phase. At least this has been my experience in the 50+ games I have tested.
As for the OP, I would like to think veteran members of the community would be privy to the beta keys handed out around here first but that sadly is not the case.
If you have a good suggestion as to how you think that could be handled, send it to MikeB. Maybe make it so you have to have been signed up here for at least 30 days and minimum amount of posts, although the minimum amount of posts may lead to nonsensical spamming. Then again, it may also force people to actually get involved in the MMORPG community instead of coming here to freeload the swag.
I don;t know what a good solution would be, but I definitely agree active/veteran members should have first dibs.

Usually yes but here the senior community manager posted on their forum that the majority of the testing was done in Alpha and that Beta was for stress testing and marketing.

i have to agree i signed up for this site souly for a VIP key i feel bad for doing so but i need to play this game have followed it for around 2 yrs now and in this is the only way ill get to play soon so be it
I don't know...vet is a pretty grey term on any site. So what would one recommend? How long before one becomes a vet on a site? The opinion could turn into extrems not to mention those who came on to "grab a key" 3 years ago and not been back until lately. Perhaps the best way to handle the deal would be to time limit new accounts as of the day of give-away. Anything else and it turns into a cluster elite, whos-who, buddy system.

As on vet, I mean people who created their accounts before it was known how to win one. This isn't really a vet, but if your active I don't care if I don't win the competition.
Anyway, I am probably way to hard on these people, it's not like they haven't spend their day spamming F5 on mmorpg.com!
Oh and on the sidenote, I am not doing this to get a VIP key myself because I am in ....

I completely agree with your statement. I read a few threads on the Official Rift forums today. What I saw seemed like a bunch of WoW refugees latching themselves onto a game that somewhere along the lines people started thinking was going to be WoW 2.0.
I went there looking for info on Beta invitations, what I found was a cesspool akin to Barren's Chat.
What I saw in my short stay over there:
1. Complaining that if there isn't an armory or a way to inspect other players, how will we ever tell who to not let into a raid soley based on their gear.
2. Raiding is the end-all be-all of gaming. We need it to get gear after all.
3. Token system sucks because it gives everyone a fair chance at getting items. Why should other players make me feel less special?
4. Which faction will have more immature players?
5. Gear is the end-all be all of gaming, obtained through Raiding.
6. Getting gear is the only reason to play the game.
7. Gear = player skill.
Oh and then there was this? "Hrhrhrhrhr i bt al u nabs ply wow omg lololololol carnt evn gt 2 icc25 omg hrhrhrahrahrahrahrahrahrarahrah"
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
I've been on MMORPG.com for years and years as guest. But decided to finally creat an account. (Not to spam F5 to get VIP key)
I filled the form for Beta test on Rift site. And i hope they will give me an invite, That is based on my references from many previous beta tests. And acctaully take part in the development and polishing of the product before release. But many people only see the beta's as oppertunity to only play the game, and not care about the purpose, being a beta tester.
I would love to get to see Rift from the inside. And be part of possibly find something that could improve the game even more. Not grind myself tierd of the game because its free. And move on when it release.
