It would not be Early Access if the game had launched already. The game launches 25th November at 18:00 CET. Period.

Oh yeah, instead of fixing your billing system, you gonna get up in the middle of the night, truly makes sense :)

However, billing isn't related to MMORPG.COM article in no way...

If you can paint an Van Gogh painting just like the real one means you are a very talented painter. Maybe not as creative. Creating the game they created with only 10 people is a good feat and from what I have been reading the game is not to buggy. They are talented. True they have been inspired by EvE (If I remember correctly the early UI images looked exectly like EvE), but there is nothing wrong with that. A lot of people like concept of EvE, but not EvE. I think this game aims to target this audience, with a landbased game inspired by EvE.

This highlighted part pertains directly to me. I played both betas of EvE and PO and PO is way more appealing to me. Something about keeping my feet (even if they are robotic) firmly planted on the ground.

Have just bought the game and been playing for a few hours now and I must say that I'm seriously impressed.

Gameplay is very smooth. Moving your little robot around the beautifull alien landscape is just a joy. WASD movement is a serious improvement over EvE online imho as it just makes me feel that much more connected to my character. Especially in combat the movement is nice. Lock your target, switch your guns on and then just focus on movement. Using the terrain ( line of sight matters ) and distance to your advantage. A whole lot better imho then parking your battleship in the middle of that mission and just sitting there.

Graphics are great. I feared that this being an indie game would suffer from mediocre graphics but the graphics are good. They're not top of the line but certainly equal to most new MMOs and a lot better then several older ones. The robots are especially beautifull.

The starting combat robots seem to resemble insects, to me they feel akin to Destroyer Droids from Star Wars. Multi-legged and skittering about the landscape. The larger combat robots basically look like your standard mech, which isn't a bad thing at all. starting industrial robots remind me greatly of Wall-E, if you're unsure what Wall-E is or don't like Wall-E then I suggest you contact a mental healthcare professional immediatly. The larger industrial robots I'm unsure on how to describe, they seem like robotic shivas. Riding on tracks and with more arms then I'd know what to do with.

It's feels like more of a living world then EvE ever felt to me. The only place in EvE you met random people was either in front of stations where there was 0 interaction or in PvP where it meant either kill them or get the hell out. In perpetuum you can see other players going about their business and doing their thing. In EvE I often felt that I was totally alone while in perpetuum you can see the world moving around you.

The Market and Fitting seem nearly identical to EvE, which is a great thing as for me those 2 features where among EvE's best. I look forward to again spending hours playing around with fittings to get that extra percentage of effectiveness out of my robot.

It seems that this game took a lot of what made EvE awesome, dropped some of the bad stuff and then added some additional cool features. On top of that they added robots, and what sci-fi isn't improved by robots?

If you like the idea of EvE but just couldn't get into that game then I'd suggest looking into this one.

Very fun game and in a much better state than Eve was at launch, its got the potential to grow into something awesome.

Very impressive first game for such a small company and well worth a sub.

  • Bloodhawk200Bloodhawk200 Member Posts: 1

Definitely a good game. I got my first look today during launch and I am really liking the potential. The players are helpful and the help system is concise and clear.

your right about it being similar to eve and its not the most Newbie friendly game unless they have played the before mentioned game.  Still I followed the tutorial and tried it out due to your review. I actually like it a bit.  Its been worth the 10$ so far.  I would like more of a run down on what each starting race details so I can decide on Missiles, Lasers, or EM weapons (gause rifles, etc)

I really enjoyed the time i spent in beta too.. The game was just a little rough around the edges, but not in a bad way.. I think i'll wait a little bit till i decide to sub as i already have a MMO i'am entertained very much with.. But i think down the road this MMO will shape up into something incredible.. Only thing that really got to me was the targeting and mineing..

For the targeting i had to click a landmark menu, click on the target, then click on the targets UI box, then click to target.. Or something along that nature so it took me about 30seconds to target something, if i was getting into pvp i'd be dead by then! Or maybe i was doing something wrong...

Then when it came to mineing i got the hexes to show up saying there was ore in them but when i went to mine them (yes i used specific ore sensores/explosives) there was nothing there.. Did that for like 1hr and had no luck mineing ANYTHING.. Maybe mineing isn't on the beggning island?

Still.. Awsome game! I'am a huge EvE fan (2nd or 3rd favorite MMORPG for me) and tbh i like how Prepetuum has handled its pvp combat more then how EvE did.. In prepetuum atleast u have WSAD and enviroment to move around giving combat some sort of tactical flare.. But when it comes to gameworld and mechanics i'd give it to EvE.. Mainly because EvE has been around a lot longer and has had a lot more time to expand their gameworld and streamline their mechanics.

    So What Now?

Well this seems the perfect time for a review to me as the game has just launched. I am puzzled as to why this is a first impressions though, are we always going to have this now a ‘first impressions’ with no score followed by a real review with score a month later?

Have gaming journalists just excepted now that no MMO will release in a fit state at launch so no reviews with scores will be done until at least a month after launch?

As for the MMO itself it is good to see both a sandbox and SF game that is on the radar and has some quality, we are paupers when it comes to anything other than fantasy tank and spank.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Open beta of Perpetuum and wish I had the time to subscribe and actively be a member.

Mining in the game is absolutely amazing.  You have to scan areas for hot spots.  Once found, you can switch into the scanner overlay which shows you the best spots in your direct gaming window.  You then select the spot you want to mine and use your miner charges.  While not very tricky or anything, you want to pick the biggest and largest spots to yield the most resources for your buck.

The economy is completely player driven, and you'll find most of the things you want to sell have some value to at least someone, usually crafters who are looking to recycle and manufacture.

The one thing that does kind of bug me about the game is the combat and that while terrain will break line of sight and cause you to miss and cause enemies to miss, buildings and the like do not break line of sight, and you can fire right through them.

I'm not sure if that's been fixed yet, but I hope they fix it.  getting shot at through buildings is fairly annoying.

Other than that, I hope you guys who are actively playing enjoy this game.

It make you wonder what Funcom and Cryptic did with all their money. SOE too.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Its a neat game, and ive already heard some guildies talking about it.   But while the game seems as if it could be fun for a bit, i dont see much of a future beyond a very small core group of players.

Looks really interesting, much more than how TOR evolved. Worth a try for sure!

Perpetuum is complex and EVE is complex. Does that make it hardcore?

I thought the game was awful. Everything from the evnironments to the mechs looks downright ugly. The combat is a joke, it is boring and heavily repetetive, very much like EvE.  It is obviously a niche product, but I don't see it getting far. Why play this boring product if you can play a more refined and fine tuned boring product like EvE ( boredom is my opinion obviously)

oh i know, like, why bother posting your boring opinion on mmorpg.com when you could just tell your mom about it?

If I understand correctly, the only thing different about combat in P is that you can somewhat dodge attacks, but its still auto attack game? Why, why do game companies insist on boring combat :/

Oh well. The game will still be good, but I just can see myself going back to that sort of combat after playing AoC, DFO, MO, APB, etc

having only read about this game, I surmise it's a pile of crap parading as a deep complex experience due to a clunky interface and a user-unfriendly set of game mechanics.

Well just so long as you read about it.

Played this a bit in beta and didn't care for it. Way too much stuff copy and pasted right out of EVE, the same slow paced, overly-turn-based-feeling combat and not nearly as much depth as EVE. Even the setting lacks the depth of EVE, fighting for control of one planet is nowhere near as deep as conflicts spanning an entire galaxy.

Don't get me wrong, I am not that into EVE either but I would play EVE over Perpetuum. Big mechs are cool, but unfortunately the gameplay in this big mech game is just not what I'm looking for. Perpetuum will probably end up being a small niche game and probably have a very small following especially with the MMO's coming out in the next 6-12 months.

So, I'm curious. He mentions it has an offline training system similar to EVE; can you also gain experience/skills through in-game actions like combat or mining? The thing about EVE that really turned me off was seeing that 1 month+ training time and not being able to do a thing about it.
