Ok, so not only when the game was first announced did they say you would be able to pull your 3 classes from any of the callings( archetypes), and now limit it to only classes within your calling ( healer can only be 3 diff healers)...
Now doing more digging I find that classes are narrowed down EVEN MORE by what race/faction you choose.
I was looking past the fact that you can choose only classes from your calling, considering there are 8 each to start with and they are all pretty interesting, but now I find this, and it actually sounds quite limiting...
I'll still be trying out the game but WHAT THE HELL.

in my opinion is better this way so you get to play a specific class depending on what race you choose or whatever you just said its better in my opinion. To much freedom of choosing classes like they first announced would have resulted in a poorly developed class system.... like you want to be a warrior but you can actualy be whatever class you like eventhou you already chose warrior, nah that doesnt sound fun, for the sake of a good RIFT, IMO its better to limit classes per race
i disagree.
if i choose to be a healer i would like to be able to choose any 3 healing classes. hate being restricted by race especially when there are 20 classes altogether. i mean i'm a healer.....i should be able to choose how i want to heal.
damn racism.
not true about the faction, what classes you can choose from start is limited yes, but both sides can gain access to the souls of the opposite faction.
i agree with that,
the part i disagree with is where they said you can choose a warrior and then become a warrior healer (better be a warrior and choose from other 3 warrior branches)..... your post is completely positive
@ Hedeon. Thank you for clearing that up, if this is true then awesome. I'm rolling some type of justicar/shaman/ other heal. Melee healing FTW.

Hedeon is right
There are no faction restrictions. Faction only determines how soon you get the callings.

There is no official word yet. All we know is that these souls will be available for only one of the factions at the start.
YES RLY! HERP DERP.
Curse: Has anything regarding faction-specific souls been finalized? Will some souls be permanently locked off to a faction?
Scott Hartsman: At the moment the only locks we have in testing, are the choices you make when you first create your character. As you level up, are offered quests, and find other opportunities to get souls, you'll find that both sides have access to the same souls. There are some fictional gymnastics that we have to do to make that make sense, but at the end of the day we felt the need to do that - we didn't want to create a situation where we would have to balance the sides, and that isn't a winning road for players or us.

Souls aren't faction limited. I took the liberty of bolding the relevant since I don't have much faith in your reading ability.

Almost. Faction determines what souls you can choose shortly after character creation. All further souls acquired are free choices from all available souls for your class. At least that is what Scot told us in one of the many interviews.
I wonder what part of the world died due to DarkAsmodeus.
It takes one to know one.
I for one am glad that it is calling restricted I can just see the tank who was a healer yesterday it's hard enough to find players who know what they are doing.
This game is made by a lot of the same people who made EQ2, and I love that game, but I have my reasons for saying that I'm not sure those guys fully learned from EQ2's mistakes.
Seperating the callings like this is a much better way to make sure there are at the least 4 different roles instead of everyone rolling the exact same build to do it all.
4 archetypes, warrior, mage ,priest, rogue
8 callings for each of those, 4 per faction at early levels, all 8 unlocked for both faction latter on,
neutral callings ( not tied to archetypes ) pvp/pve souls and similar
so you get 8 + neutral ones, which we dont know anything about yet. but i imagine there will be plenty of those
Hell yeah! I'm doing the same thing. I think I would either throw the sentinal or inquistor in the mix. I'll have to see which will benefit my front line play style more. Probably the sentinal because the inquistor will add non melee style attacks to my abilities which won't generate any convictions.
Chosing from every archetype would be disasterous.
Everyone would just be Tank(warrior)+Healer+Nuke(mage)
Yup exactly, this is why they changed to this. I believe the original 'Heroes of Telara' design had the free for all though. However, HoT was different in many many ways, and we may not have even been dealing with 'souls' then anyway.
