I'm looking for a game where a crafter can make an actual living off his items. The only game I've found so far is EVE, and i dont think I can handle staring at the back of a ship for hours on end. I dont care if the games fantasy or sci-fi as long as it has some type of economy. Also it'd be cool if you could level as a crafter without leveling up your other skills.
How hard is it to start out as a crafter in SWG? Can a newb make any money starting out or do you have to level up a bunch first?
Yes I have a dream And its not some MLK dream for equality. I wanna own a decommissioned lighthouse And I wanna live at the top And nobody knows I live there. And theres a button that I can press, and launch that lighthouse into space.

you can try dark age of camelot. its old game but excellent for being a full time crafter. i was a legendary crafter in all categories. you can make one character and level up in all crafts. also being a trinketer is HIGHLY helpful since that is one way to make mega money to offset the cost of leveling up your crafter. once you reach legendary you can make a nice living so to speak in the game.there is always a demand or used to be for quality armour and weapons. also would suggest you skill up in alchemy and spellcrafting since then you can inbue and enchant the material be a full service shop so to speak.
live long and prosper
strength and honor
if urgent do it yourself
if you have time-delegate it
if you have forever-form a committee
SWG crafting has been dumbed down, but is still the best in any MMO.
You do have to do the traditional crafting grind though, but it goes very fast.
"I am not in a server with Gankers...THEY ARE IN A SERVER WITH ME!!!"
as i have read atlantica have a economy that is diffrent from others i havent tried but i guess it will be fun im currently downloading it now.
i saw luminary have this kind of trade port thye have economy thingy but i dont think its cool :P
Uncharted Waters Online.
the Tutorial is long but stick with it
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I tried all the games but none of them were really for me. I have a feeling like I could've kept playin UWO but that tutorial was a killer, I was about and hour and a half into it and I just couldnt take it anymore.

As a crafter, you do not need to leave the station at all because the game has actually working economy and you can buy all materials needed for production from the market thus no more staring at the back of your ship, you can spin it in your hangar!
yea try it again after a day just go a little by little thats what i did so glad i stayed with it
From newer games FFXIV is your best bet, although I'd recommend waiting few months longer before jumping in.
No, I didn't mind staring at the back of a ship for hours on end, the problem was i was still in the tutorial an hour and a half in. The only time i even saw a ship in that game was the 5 min tutorial fight.

Well, complex things take time to explain. I am not sure what you issue with the game is.
You want a game with economy and economy is fairly complex thing that takes some time to understand. Or did you mean just the basics of game play?
Yeah about 15 minutes of that tutorial was stuff i need to know, the rest was useless crap that a 3rd grader could've figured out.

you can stop doing the tutorial at any time just to let you know it isnt a required part of the game. its reccomended not required
name a game that can beat EvEs economy, you can't. Game set, match won.
The economy in Perpetuum Online is supposed to be even more robust than EVE.
And you don't have to stare at the back of a ship all day, instead it's a robot; but robots are cool! Right?
But if you like Faction Standings, it is well worth your time to do all of the tutorials.
i would have to agree. played pretty much every p2p since eq1, you cant top EVE's economy system
ehhhhhhhh
Most game where you are a crafter, you are going to be staring at your character/avatar/ship. So you might want to find other stuff you can do which works well with crafting instead of just crafting.
Apart from that, you can always play ff14, but buying the mats can be expensive. You also don't need to level up a combat job if you don't want to. But personally, I don't think you'll find a good game if that is your only criteria.

Alright why is everybody quoting me on this, I never actually said that, someone typed in a random sentence and used it as a quote, honestly when did I ever say something that could even remotely mean that I cant handle staring at the back of a ship for hours on end?......

you said it right THERE
As said, tutorial can be interrupted and started anytime again. You do not have to go through.
Tutorial(Aura narrated) as such does not reward standings. What you probably have on mind are 'Tutorial missions' - Cash for Capsuleers, Balancing the books, making Mountains of Molehills, etc.
Check out Perpetuum, www.perpetuum-online.com . It is pretty similar to EVE crafting-wise and you can certainly progress without combat.
It sounds like you're looking as much for crafting as an economy. In that case, you should try A Tale in the Desert. That's an entire game built around crafting. Also, there's no combat, so anything that can be done in the game at all, can be done without leveling any sort of combat skills.
A new EVE clone Perpetuum is out. Its robot based and was released a few hours ago. Its WASD controlled for movement, its land based and so far pretty dang fun. Debating going the economic route in this game as well. So its a thought for a fresh start that EVE economy wise but you can actually move at your leisure
