what about flying since this is a dream...

JMandrakeJMandrake Member Posts: 139

I mean why would the laws of gravity affect us in the dream?

Why not be able to fly in rooms or Jump huge leaps and so on?

Ok maybe the gravity coudl be defined in the structures stating that gravity was actually placed so that no one woudl float away... but what if there would be a few rooms in the dream where there woudl be no gravity? what if they be one on each plane where it coudl be used for strategic measures for defence of their house and so on?

Wouldn't it be cool where you are in this huge room and the portal to get in the next room is over yoru head about a good 50 to 70 meters away?

Anyhow let me know what you guys think about it....

Why not let someone be able to grow wings as a character thingy and with wings you'd have the ability to fly. Or maybe an art that let you grow them temporarily, or jump off a cliff with a sheet to float down, say like a mountain.

No brainer, insight art.  Insight is the element of air, and what better elemental for flight.

Of course for such an art to be practical we'd need much bigger rooms then what's in UL.  Until I see what they have in reclamation I dunno how feasible it'd be.

Of course I'm all for large massive sprawling rooms.  The kind of room where you can have over 20 people go at it and not have it get overcrowded.

Air control is an interesting topic, there's 2 ways to go about it I see.  The most commonly used type is to make it like swimming in FPS's, you aim in a direction and go there.  The second type, which I saw in a mod for quake 2 "Super heroes quake II" is actually quite fun.  You float down instead of falling, when you press jump, you float up.  With practice you can hold level with that style by just hitting jump with a rhythm, almost like typing the flapping of wings.  The benefit there was you had a heck of a lot more mobilitywhile at the same time being able to aim not directly where you were going. The first method is easier to get the hang of and it makes midair fighting trickier because where you are facing tends to be where you are heading.

Despite the fact I play a dreamseer (in UL) and will probably play a dreamseer in the game (reclamation) I don't think this should be a dreamseer only thing. While flying is air related I think it is something that everyone should be able to enjoy, maybe dreamseers could be a little better at it but I think it should be open to everyone.

GK- often fly lower, a bit clumsy, may take several tries before getting off the ground

FS- have the ability to pull others who are flying down to the ground, or drench others in water if they're flying

SM- are able to fly pretty well, but still aren't the best at it and/or they have the ability to take wings from someone else

DS- acrobats, best with wings, can do a lot more things with them

I'm too tired to look up what the other things were that will be available for a focus

How about different transport methods for foci?

Mind you these DON'T have to be major arts.  They could be made minor arts that anyone can learn.  Perhaps they drain power continually, but a greater mastery makes for better efficiency, not to mention having a lot of the elemental in question makes for longer forrays.

GK - Climb - TRUE climbing, they cling to any surface with a grip as sound as a geckos.  Great for laying ambushes from odd angles.  Just look along the surface you want to move along and move along it.  Remaining stationary burns less will, meditation can be used while this is active, so long as the evoker remains still.  With proper mastery of both, a skilled GK can recover willpower while waiting on a surface.  There was actually a mod in quake 2 which gave a similar power, real fun to play with, REAAAAAL fun, and nice for staging ambushes, or playing around.

SM - Essence Shift -  You shift your essence to wherever you are aiming,  It basically fires an invisible shot which sets your destination on the first solid thing you hit.  You basically aim at the spot on the ground where you want to pop up and POOF you are there.  Higher mastery increases range and decreases the already fast evoke time.  A skilled SM can change position quickly in battle making for a difficult target.

DS - Fly - When in idle you sink, higher mastery decreases the speed at which you sink and increases efficiency.  This makes high end DS's masters of the sky.

FS - Shove - While push is a minor dreamsoul art that jostles someone, Shove is a fatesender art that gives them more then a love tap.  It is a ranged art, you aim in a direction, fire it off, anyone in the way of wher you are aiming is rather roughly shoved STRAIGHT back a good distance.  If you aim a little upwards at someone in your face and you can blow them into the air.  Higher levels produce a more pronounced affect.  A high end shove can even deal minor damage by slamming people at high speeds into solid objects.  Even better if you shove someone who's airborn, or someone clinging to a wall, it cancels the affect and forces them to fall back down to the earth.  Shove should be low end, expensive, but satisfying.  Mind you, a FS could take one of the other mobility arts as one of their non-focus arts, but they get the end say on who is going for joyrides and who is not.  If that dern DS is upstaging your air acrobatics, then introduce him to mother earth.  If that Gk won't stop goofing off on the cieling, knock him down to size.  The fun doesn't stop there, blow people off cliffs in rather dramatic trajectories, help people over chasms, use it to taunt someone who's trying to melee you.  This art, is push on growth hormones, later given steroids, then augmented with cybernetic enhancements.  All that and a bag of chips.  And, of course, 100% fun just thinking about it.

lets take this a step further

Instead of "climbing" why not be able to run on the walls like in the Matrix? I mean this is somewhat a similar world, instead this is a dream and possibilities are even greater, why couldn't we run on any surface?

I actually did have that mental image.  In FACT, I got the inspiration for a Matrix styled Quake 2 mod where you could run up surfaces.

Mind you, all these abilities would make a FS very handy in helping keep a keep secure.  A GK can keep the portals closed, but a FS is what you need for long term anti-air and anti-wall support.  Granted any focus could do the job, but they'd run out of steam much faster then a FS.  It's a nuisance art with real nice defensive applications.
