Some questions about Perpetuum

n1k1sbackn1k1sback Member Posts: 2

I currently think about starting to play perpetuum.

I have only played fantasy mmorpgs in the past ( wow, rappelz, cabal online eg) after after some time, they were borring

I like some fast paced combat and important PvE group content is a must in my point of view.

I got some questions about perpetuum online so far:

1)Is there something like a max level or any restriction, so that there is somewhere a limit and how long does it take to reach it playing 1-2 hours per day?

2) Is there some nice PvE group content like sci-fi raids or something?

3) How about PvP? is it more solo oder multiplayer based?

4) Is it possible to play efficient 20-30 minutes without wasting time and logging out after that?

5) Can I control multiple robots the same time?

6) Does it make sense to create something like a "main robot" like there were main chars in WoW

7) Is the combat fast or slow paced?

8) and one of the most important questions: What content is perpetuum based on? In WoW  it was raiding or doing PvP and thus gathering better equip.

In rappelz it was all about leveling and getting better pets.

But how about perpetuum?

    1) There are no levels at all.

    2) No.

    3) Like any open world PVP, it is focused more towards groups.

    4) Casual play is possible, not really PVP wise though.

    5) No.

    6) Not really. There is no limitation on skill your character can train.

    7) Submitted to subjective perception. You would need to find out yourself.

    8) Perpetuum is lacking content on all levels but it is mostly PVP focused.

    8) It is a sandbox game, you create your own content. Your corp have to fight for the area to control resources. Your corp have to mine, have to shoot npc to get forward.

If that is true, WoW raiding also means that you create your own content...

    you will not like Perpetuum

  • care000care000 Member UncommonPosts: 19

To those who play the game actively. Is it worth it ? I`m a scifi fan myself, like mmo`s, also played eve for some time, noticed the interface is  almost the same, which is a good thing anyway.  How is the pve content right now. Does the world feel empty, or is there always something to do ?

People can tell if the game is worthy for themselves only. To find out for yourself, you have to experience the game.

Gee really ? I was jut wondering what other people think that`s all.

How is it going to help you in any way?

It is all subjective. What one finds awesome about the game the other find it awful and reason to quit...

That doesn't mean he can't ask about people's general consensus or try to get a feel for what kind of game it is, yes, in the end his opinion will be his own, but this site is for info on MMo's so I don't think its ridiculous to be asking for info.

@care000 personally I've only played the game for an hour or two so it's tough to say, but Eve is the obvious reference point for comparisons.  Much like Eve the combat is about multi-tasking, juggling targets etc.  The fact that you control all your own movements makes you feel a bit more invested in it, but as expected for a new game some aspects of it feel a bit clunky to me.  Spend time getting all the UI windows up and placed where you like them and it starts to get more intuitive.

As I said, haven't played a lot so no telling if it gets boring in days, weeks or months, but if you're coming from Eve and have $10 to spend you won't find it to be a total waste even if it doesn't end up to be the game for you.

Yes that is correct, but then tell me, why do reviews and user opinions even exist, or matter ?

I already told you that i like scifi stuff, robots are especially cool, and i watched some in game movies, and it looks pretty cool, but the thing with this game is that it doesnt offer a trial period, you have to subscribe, and i just dont want to throw my money away for no good reason.

  • care000care000 Member UncommonPosts: 19

Tnx you Cropper, finally somebody with an answer i was looking for. Will try it, and see how it goes from there.

  • TheDarkrayneTheDarkrayne Member EpicPosts: 5,297

Why not try the free trial for EVE? Its a similar concept. Perpetuum has basically mimiced EVE.

If you like EVE you might want to think about Perpetuum.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I like the game so far, you can try it out for yourself for $10 bucks not bad for 30 days.

I played eve many times in these past few years, but never really stayed. Its good, and i like it, but in my opinion, if you dont invest some serious time in the game, its not worth it, cause its so big and deep you dont really achieve a lot. I heard that perpetuum is kinda simplified version of eve on ground so i will definitely try it.

Am I saying he cannot ask? You still did not answer my question nor addressed my point.

You could say that review is descriptive. I it is an attempt to introducing you the subject, the game mechanics and game play, to make you familiar with the subject. Opinion on the other hand is subjective, or can be reasoned to some extent, perception on the game.

Review: There are 12 classes of 3 archetypes.
Opinion 1: The classes aren't innovative and just follow mainstream standards.
Opinion 2: There is a good choice of classes where everyone can find what suit them the best.

You might not agree with my perception since review is a bit broad definition term but I make there a difference in informative value of each.

You do not get the 14 days if game time for free, you only get 14 days of Experience points. Just to clarify.

If you would read my posts you would realize im not talking about trying eve, but perpetuum, which doesn`t have a 14 day trial period...

so far i like the game a lot..basically it is surely true that on a first look it has similarities to eve in quite a few things but the deeper you get the more they differ.

i'll go ahead and write down my impressions tho after reading thru the OP posts i wonder how one does not even read a little bit about the game before making posts like that but well ^^

    combat:

the combat itself i a little bit faster than in eve and more engaging (at least until now) as you have to move around, hide behind plants to dodge shots.  overall it is surey not as fast as let's say darkfalls combat  or even wow's and more a combat  that doesn't make you break your fingers  a lot :P kinda chillin

at least now with the first mechs you are no where able to just tank a spawn or a mission like in eve but have the lure the mobs out and play safe which is fun.  after starter missions/npc's that is.

as an honest side note the line of sight stuff needs work as npc's sometimes shoot thru the ground while you can't hit them..overall it doesn't make it bad but this needs tweaking for sure but got better with the recent patches between early access and launch.

    crafting:

tho i haven't been much into producing and researching and the like it is done quite nice as far as i know (my corp researches and produces and i at least squeezed the info out of them :P). basically you can reverse engeneer anything you have (tho you need a specific amount sometimes..like munition) and afterwards you got a copy with which you can produce stuff. besides that you can go for prototyp producing and therefor you got to reasearch a prototype at aprox 10 times the cost an item/mech but got a copy afterwards.

when u use the copies they increase in material cost so after some time you will need a new one.

    harvesting:

i personally think this is really well done and finds the best comparison to the SWG system. you basically have to scan the area for the ressource you are looking for. if you found a area where the ressource is located you have to do some more detailed scans to make out the real nodes and then you can go ahead and mine like crazy ^^ i have been like 2 days (a little bit semi afk here in there :P the spawn was used by quite a lot besides me tho. just to give an idea on how long it lasts)) on a spawn before it now seems to be getting low.

so the hunt for a good spawn is quite nice and well mining is like mining tho you can go semi afk while doing it as you don't have to move the ore around every few mins like in eve.

    economy:

well this is the biggest similarity to eve i'd say..very much same market idea. all local market with buy orders and all a trader likes..rock solid system as in eve.

    pvp:

well not much i can say about for now. overall there is some safe islands (1 for each race) where you can do missions and mine and the like with 3 pvp islands on the "outer rim".

in these pvp islands there should  be more rewarding mobs/ressources according to one of our guys talking to the devs and there also is conquerable outposts that way for alliances/guilds to go for them..

besides that i can't say much about it now as we don't have that many mechs safed up to go and pvp with them :)

    overall:

me likes and i bought a reduced sub already (22 euro for 3 monts :P) on top of my initial buy as i have been looking around for a game following eve's approach for quite a while (eve turned me away with it's local radar and endless gate camping over time - played it fpr like 5 years still ^^)

Is there some other announcement I missed? I find it odd they would give 14 days of free game time just for signing up and then ask 2.95 EUR for 4 days trial period.

The 2 weeks is two weeks worth of Extension Points - you accumulate extension points at 1 per minute for as long as your account is active. You don't actually play for those two weeks you just get the points. I'm not sure about any of the other offers though.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
