I have an inactive WOW account which is pretty old, and I am receiving 5-6 mails a month telling me that my account is compromised or used for illegal activity. All emails are appear to be sent from blizzard and look valid, and they all contain links to enter your account information or so.

If you do not know how to verify the sender address of an email (there are ways for this), do not reply or click the links on such emails. When I verify such emails original sender address, I always end up in some hotmail accounts. Let me warn you again, you do not see the hotmail address as sender, these emails appear to be originated from blizzard email accounts! Be careful about such emails, these emails are sent to takeaway your characters and items by getting control of your Wow accounts

It just seems to me that Blizzard could do an IP trace on these kinda of e-mails (some of these really do look authentic) And put a stop to this crap!

I have 2 email addresses and haven't played WoW since 2005 or so (give or take a few scroll of resurrections). I get at least 4 a day in each mailbox of these scams, some I get double of. I just wish these scammers would go away. I feel sorry for people who actually play the game and one day it really is Blizzard emailing them that their account has been stolen/compromised. You will never know if it truly is a legit email.

They really need to do something though about them.

they can trace them and send them to a cybernetics division but...how can Blizzard stop them?

Literarly this is just a fancy form of identity theft. Non-blizzard posting in Blizzard's name.

But what can they do about it? They're a gaming company they can't shut down a website that isn't theirs. They can lawsuit and have done so in the past and won but beyond that there's...not much else to do. Japan laws protect people from this stuff. USA / EU does not have such laws.

    yet.

They are committing major identity fraud against a huge corporation. I can only imagine the scope of this kind of a lawsuit blizzard could bring against these people. They should dig a very deep hole underneath the prison just for these people!

All authentic blizzard e-mail will always say

Blizzard Entertainment on the header of the e-mail..........so far anyways but I would still be very careful when opening one

one way to know. Log in. I had to go through recovering an account once and...they're getting very good at restoring everything but still it's not a solution. Authenticators help but I had a second attempt on my account with authenticator installed. That time I didn't lose anything, just had to reset my password.

I'm nervous every time i type my password and code in and hit enter. big wall of yellow text with a green link is something i never want to see again.

I have been using copy and paste from my notepad to log in to all my games here lately

If they steal my Starcraft 2 account words will not be adequate to describe my level of "pissed off"

I finally transferred my 2004 WoW account to Battle.net this year and found my account safe and intact. I had plenty of emails to click on and lose that info though, but with some common sense I knew they were all fake emails. Though I have to admit a few almost did get me to click them. They are getting smarter but it is a good thing that I know they used the wrong email account.

I am just glad I don't play the game anymore. I would be scared also, it is too easy to get hacked in WoW.

Speaking of WoW scam-mail.  On my main email account I get about 2 or 3 of these DAILY.  This email I use for the majority of my game registrations.

On my secondary email account I had never received 1 WoW scam-email and I use the email primarily for work related emails.  That was until I got into the beta for an upcoming SOE game.  Registered with this email account because I had issues using my main email account.  The next day I started receiving WoW scam-mail in my inbox and have received 1 per day since.

Could it be a coincidence?  I guess so, but it would be one hell of a coincidence considering I haven't signed up for anything else with that email for months.

If you recieve an official e-mail from Blizzard, it always has your first name in the greeting :)

    I.E. Greetings Bob or whatever.

All mine have anyway . Check your official e-mails, see if they have it.

Blizzard can also write proper English, unlike these scammers. Should tip people off right away.

Honestly, almost all the WOW scam e mails I get have the worst run on sentences and grammar, it s impossible to not see they re scams.
