I was watching some gameplay videos and I couldn't help noticing that it looked almost exactly like wow. The animations and art style all look similar to me. It even has the animal race that runs on all four legs. The dragon boss looks the same as wow's but purple instead of blue or red. The armor also has a similar look.
I realize its possible it could of been coincidence but its basically wow with better graphics and no sub?

No, it's not just you but you should really consider reading up on what this game has in store before submitting to any kind of opinion as short sighted as that. In truth it would seem that there are differences enough to make this game stand on it's own yet similarities enough to make this game appeal to both audiences.
People think it's fun to pretend your a monster. Me I spend my life pretending I'm not. - Dexter Morgan
Not really.. maybe you play to much WoW, and Blizzard burned into your brain that every MMO looks like it, so you never leave it - (aka brain washed?).
I agree with you....Wow is just another GW2 clone...damn blizzard stop copying other games
Are you artistically blind?
Everything, from art style to character models look so much nicer in GW2. Not once did i think of WoW.
The game looks and plays nothing like Wow at all.
Wow now that I think about I was playing Global Agenda the other day and was thinking how much it looked like WoW too.
Sigh/
why do you guys even bother replying to topics like these? the moment i read 'this MMO is just like wow' i just put that special snow flake on ignore. Seriously not worth it.
Who could have thought that WOW could bring super power like USA to its knees?

Im picking on WoW btw because its the beast that made all of this possible
I don't see it. If anything it is more like a Guild Wars clone with a few innovations thrown in to mix up the status quo!
You don't say. GW is clone of GW2, dyamnnnn!! who would have thought that.

Duh, both games were originally the idea of Jeff Strain and there are quit a few people who have worked on both, of course there are similarities. Same goes for Starcraft 2 and Warcraft 3 BTW.
That said, how can you think the animations look alike? GW2s animations are made in a motion suit while Wows are made for hand, they look rather different to me.
The artstyles have some similarities but most of them is due to the fact they moved GW2 to 15th and 16th century, same period Wow also uses as main historical inspiration source. Wow has a lot cuter style than GW2, while GW2s weapons look more useful to me (SCA member).
But there are similarities, there are also a lot off differences and I think gameplay wise is GW2 one of the games that is further away from Wow than the rest of the themeparks.
I think the similarity that strikes me most is how well the avatars fit into the background of both games.
now: GW2 (11 80s).
Dark Souls 2.
future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
"Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
They're both fantasy-based MMOs. That's where the similarities end, as far as I can tell. And the Shatterer looks like Deathwing? Yes, they're both dragons and they're both big. That's where the similarities end.
Your premise has little merit.
He's not a troll. Trolls are professional and do their thing for fun. He's just a butthurt SWToR fanboy...
haha
GW2 looks like GW2 to me.
GW2 looks like wow just because wow looks like dark age of camelot, or everquest, or ultima online. All these games are MMORPGs and that's why they look similar. This tread has no sense. Wow was not the first game to implement dragons or orcs, or monsters.

I just watched one WoW video and one GW 2 (just to remind graphics, I tried WoW for a year) and I gotta say.. Its rly not similiar to me. GW 2 is trying like a bit more "cartoon" GW 1 combine with Age of Conan but trying to stay with GW 1 style. And btw you compare both games only by look. Thats like saying that Lady Gaga is way better than Kurt Cobain cause she is female and you think she is so freakin hot. Try to compare gameplay.
Played: Lineage 2,Guild Wars 1 and 2, Age of Conan, Ragnarok Online, LOTRO, World of Warcraft, League of Legends, EvE online
Tried: KAL Online, Face of Mankind, ROSE online
Playing: CS:GO
No.
I have to agree with Xpertise on this one. Just look at his post history and have a nice laugh. I can't take anything he posts seriously and refuse to dignify this one with a response.
It reminds me more of Desert Bus, but that's just my opinion.
Well to be fair, watching actual video is a little better than just listening to some dev hype although both can be misleading.
As for my opinion,no the games do not look anything a like.
I do have my own deliberations on this game, but i would in no means claim it as fact.
GW 1 was low end graphics,so i sort of feel the same will be in GW2,just because of the F2p application. However no way will it be as bad as Wow,Wow's graphics are bottom of the heap amongst MMORPG's rigth now, not even better than FFXI which actually has more detail in it's low end graphics.
The dynamic events are blown out of proportion ,but hey it will be better than Wow which has nothing lol.My take is that if they do not offer any loot /rewards players will wear off the initial impact and not care about them at all.So it comes down to, is it the event that is intriguing or the rewards? That is the sad state of gaming, everyone wants the rewards,FUN is actually on the backburner.
I expect the quests to be exactly the same old we are used to nothing new here,so in that respect this is the one area it will be the same as Wow.
IMO Wow/GW2 and especially RIFT are way over hyped, they are predominantly shells of what a true MMORPG should/could be.
I beleive GW2 will have less selection choice from clas and class design, although it may easily have better initial customization as Wow has zilch.
they do also have the desgin [apparently] to solo,so again it does have similarity.
when looking at similarities,i think one common ground cannot be over looked and that is how players are going to play the game.I mean does it really matter what a game has to offer if all players do is try to speed level towards some magical end game?So i would like to hear from any future GW2 players, how exactly they plan on playing this game ,i mean aside from the usual nonsense of "I am a l33t Raider"?
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Of course GW2 is a WoW clone! Wow clones all suck. Especially the clone called "real life"- no race or class choices, the worst community and an insane grind. Only the graphics are slightly better. Haven't you noticed rl and wow have the same art direction? Cant believe so many are playing it instead of wow. But yeah, I totally agree that GW2 is SO copied...
If I'm not mistaken dynamic events actually replace the traditional quest system which means quests will be completely different which is kind of a major component in the way the game is played.
As for how I'll play... I'll likely make a couple characters to start with and play one with my buddies and play the other one in my spare time. I'll work through the dungeons and whatnot with my friends whenever possible and have fun from there. I will also definitely have to check out the Mists since you can completely level from 0 to max there I'm sure one of my alts will try that.
If you think of the way that you actually play the game GW2 is quite different from WoW, or at least as much as you can be considering they are part of the same genre. For example off the top of my head:
- No boring stagnant quests like WoW, instead we have dynamic events which will be one of the primary methods of leveling. Huge affect on gameplay.
- The Mists where you can spend your time all the way up to max level with your character in a massive PvP world, not just a simple battleground used as a PvP gear grind or minor diversion while leveling.
- No Healer/Tank/DPS trinity. So once you are finished leveling in a different way (ie dynamic events or the Mists PvP) you get to dungeon content and you don't play the standard trinity, instead you have the multi role, skill swapping on the fly, downed state mechanic, multiplayer game style.
So really if you think about it the way we level and the gampeplay style once we do multiplayer content is as different as you can get within the genre. Add to that the fact that the art design is unique hand painted and the skill system is also quite different and really I'm not sure how in any way that significantly affects gameplay that GW2 and WoW are terribly similar. That's just my opinion based on what I've read about the game.
For threads like these I wish we could vote + or - on a thread. Self moderation ftw. Everyone in good standing within the forums would be able to do so.
We'd have less of these heat seeking topics.
